GREECE: Island of MYKONOS (Μύκονος), inside the beautiful SMALL CHURCHES
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit the beautiful island of Mykonos (Μύκονος) in Greece and let's go inside the small churches. Rhodes, the largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands, is known for its beach resorts, ancient ruins and remnants of its occupation by the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. The city of Rhodes has an Old Town featuring the medieval Street of the Knights and the castlelike Palace of the Grand Masters. Captured by the Ottomans and then held by the Italians, the palace is now a history museum.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.

The Church of Panagia Paraportiani (Greek: Εκκλησία της Παναγίας της Παραπορτιανής) is situated in the neighbourhood of Kastro, in the town of Chora, on the Greek island of Mykonos. Its name literally means Our Lady of the Side Gate in Greek, as its entrance was found in the side gate of the entrance to the Kastro area.
Construction of this church started in 1425 and was not completed until the 17th century. This impressive, whitewashed church actually consists of five separate churches which are joined: the four churches (dedicated to Saint Eustathios, Saint Sozon, Saints Anargyroi and Saint Anastasia) are at ground level and constitute the base of the fifth church that has been built above them.

It's popularly known for its summer party atmosphere. Beaches such as Paradise and Super Paradise have bars that blare thumping music. Massive dance clubs attract world-renowned DJs and typically stay open well past dawn. Iconic landmarks include a row of 16th-century windmills, which sit on a hill above Mykonos town.

Church of Panagia Paraportiani Mykonos at Kastro in 4K.
At the end of your walk at Little Venice (Alefkandra) you will find this Mykonos landmark, in the Kastro neighborhood, by the homonymous bar. What you see is in essence five churches joined in a bigger one. The name in Greek means by the door, at an attempt to describe the place of the church next to the gate of the Kastro area. Building of the first church started in the 14th century and completed with the fifth one in the 17th century. Sadly the church is closed for visitors, so you can only admire it from outside.

Mykonos | Paranga beach
A smaller beach of distinct character, Paranga is only 4.5 km from Chora, easily accessible by car, bus service from Chora or regular boat service from Platys Gialos (first stop). It is also an easy 15 minute walk from Platys Gialos or 10 minute walk from Paradise beach. What makes Paranga distinct is the fact that is actually made up of two beaches separated by a headland juxtaposed by the blue water, with plenty of aged tamarisk trees providing natural shade from the summer sun. Although organised, the beach maintains a laidback atmosphere and has expanded the last years with substantial tavernas, beach bars with palm umbrellas and sun beds. The beach is very popular with nudists and the like, sunbathing to the far right of the area. After 5:00 in the afternoon, the beach bar goes into party mode, with mainstream dance music to sip your drink too, getting crowded as the late sunset comes in.There is also a quaint camping site to camp and an enchanting little cove nearby Paranga known as Agia Anna beach for those visitors seeking quiet and relaxation.
