I have been paragliding on and off in Annecy for about a month. The weather hasn't been great this year but every now and then it really switches on in the afternoon (especially after 4pm it seems) and a great flight is easily had.
This particular flight is 1 of 3 in 3 days where it was just lifty all over the place. I tried to fly out to the first peak with an eye to fly to the second and then possibly across the lake, but it got really turbulent the closer I got.
I reached the first peak and started to climb in some horrible air, but when I saw the guy in front of me start to rock all over the place and then have a collapse which really rolled him (02:20) I decided to fly back to the launch ridge and buzz around there a bit more.
I can see why people love flying at Annecy when it is working. Beautiful paragliding with amazing scenery.
Paragliding Crash Accident at Annecy France - Raw Video
I start with saying I love paragliding and it is life to me. I can't wait to recover just so I fly again. __________________ please like and subscribe to support my plans to grow my channel after recovery to support my goal getting to xalps and being sponsored. _________________________ Here is my review for the accident: After having many great flights and building confidence and feeling with both my wings and the air, I took a risky decision over estimating my skills at landing. I knew I'm taking a risk but I don't know why I did it anyway. It was a big mistake that you can easily hear in my voice questioning if I want to go with this bad idea. The main issue is I focused too much on crossing the lake again and didn't think enough about if I miss my landing zone. I thought that at this point I can land anywhere after many good landings at landing zones. I had much more sink than I expected which forced me to land and it didn't go well. I hit a house downwind while doing my last loop (I Shouldn't do 360 but things happened very fast) and hit the wall at 60 km/hour. I broke my right leg and did a lot of damage to my ankle (The biggest issue). Hurt my right shoulder from falling on it and left leg from the impact. Good people took care of helping me until the ambulance arrived and did the surgery same day, stayed in hospital 5 days, and now recovering for the next 6 weeks then will learn how to walk and build strength again.
Lesson to learn: When something questionable and unknown it is fun to do but in this sport it is better to not do. My next flights I'll be more conservative and now I know how ugly is to crash so if I had a second chance I would of choose some trees or through my parachute. Flying is the most fun so enjoy it and don't let my mistake affect your flying negatively. It is safe sport if done safely.
*Please feel free to write honest comments below so we all learn from my mistake. Clearly I made a mistake! My next goal after recovering and gaining confidence again is to train on spot landing.
Paragliding in Annecy, France
This was our first time to try paragliding and the experience was AMAZING! ▾ // See more details below // ▾
For me, the takeoff was the scariest part, but after that, it was fine — it wasn't so scary at all up high (except when they started doing tricks).
As for Jonas? Well, he has more 'coverage' in this video (since I didn't have much clips) and you will see how he felt about it! ♥

Paragliding Lake Annecy - French Alps - Planfait To Perroix
This was the first flying day of our trip to Lake Annecy in the French Alps from the 17th - 25th September 2011. The first two days were wet so we were raring to go!
The launch site at Planfait has splendid views of Lake Annecy. The landing field has numerous dwellings nearby so more care in the landing approach is needed, particularly for those used to landing in open countryside!
The wind is this region is usually driven by the heating and cooling of the mountains where in the British Isles the wind is invariably generated by pressure systems. This means that there is usually light wind on take off which favours a forward or alpine launch. Landings can be fast as wind on the landing fields is often light as well.
In this video a number of our group perform forward launches and then we go on board with the helmet camera to enjoy a flight from Planfait to Perroix landing field.
Pilots: Pete Gallagher, Anne Kelly, Malcolm Hanks, Roy Kelly, Michael Dixon and Richard Barker.
Music: many thanks to Jeff Edwards for permission to feature his track Why Don't You Ask. Find more from Jeff at or at his YouTube channel JeffsTunes.

Paragliding Road Trip France 2013 Annecy and Samoens
My few weeks away in France 2013 at Samoens and Annecy. Weather not the greatest as it was the wettest Spring in many years and there was still snow on many mountains in June. Annecy had southerly winds instead of the desired light northerlies, or rain and cold. Trip was also coloured by one of my mates bashing himself up badly in an accident the fist week. Then I had a bad collapse with put the sh.ts up me a couple of days later. In the end I gave up and came back 9 days early!

Make your childhood dreams come true. For me it was to fly. So, I started paragliding.
Parasailing is a favorite for residents of Chambery and the Savoie/Alps region, for obvious reasons. Surrounded by high mountains and stunning views the conditions are perfect for the sport. One of our favorite motorbike rides is to go up to the tops of the mountains and watch the hang gliders jump off the cliffs. It's both majestic and thrilling. Here are some of the jumps from one of our day trips.

Paragliding in France, June 2012. HD 720 Key Chain cam video
A 3 week paragliding holiday in the Auverge, Parc de Volcanoes staying at my mate Roger Davis's house there. Not the best flying weather I've had, especially Annecy, blooming southerly winds, but it was good at times. Flybe are crap. 3 hour delay outbound and 6 hours return flight. No information. No food until a passenger organised something. And finally got to Southampton airport at 2300, several hours late. I'd missed my coach, no trains running, hotels full. Was lucky enough to hitch a ride to Exeter and then someone came out from Torbay and picked me up at 0130. Got home at 0300. No compensation from Flybe either. Music Derek R Audette.
