The Parc Floral de la Source is a French garden situated to the south of the River Loire, in the La Source neighbourhood of the town of Orléans, in the département of Loiret. The source of the Loiret river is at the centre of the park. The park has been awarded the status of Jardin remarquable by the French Ministry of Culture and the national council of parks and gardens
The Parc Floral de la Source extends over 35 ha (86.5 acres). It uses the natural contours of the site and consists of open spaces where the flora, fauna and minerals are juxtaposed. Its unique geographical position, between the wooded region of Sologne and the plains of the Loire Valley, gives it a particular relief. At its centre, after an underground course of several miles, is the resurgence of the Loiret. With the passing seasons, successive flowering continually renews the appearance of the grounds.
The plateau is covered by a semi-natural forest of hornbeams and oaks. It is joined to the plain by a hillside which corresponds to a former fluvial terrace of the Loire. Located on the plateau are animal enclosures for a variety of species, including alpaca and Ouessant sheep. The plain of the Loire valley is given over to floral and horticultural works. It includes the iris garden, the Miroir rose garden, the valley of perennials, the garden of the Source, the exotic butterfly glasshouse, the kitchen garden and the dahlia garden. Aviaries exhibit birds from several continents. This area also includes the source of Loiret.
The park has several gardens including collections of ferns and rhododendrons, a rose garden, tropical gardens, rockery and flowering grasses. The iris garden collection includes about 900 varieties, classified since 1996 as a specialist national collection. A children's playground is available and a train tours the site.
In 1967, the Floralies internationales d'Orléans attracted 2,300,000 visitors in six months. The global budget was more than one million francs. From April to October 1967, Orléans became the world capital of horticulture: 330 exhibitors, 700 producers from 11 countries, 13,000 m² of glasshouses specially constructed to house successive exhibitions on 35 hectares. Apart from horticulture, the Floralies included several attractions including a reconstruction of a Gaulois village, thus destroying an ancient temple.

Orléans is a city on the banks of the Loire River in north-central France, and it’s the capital of the Centre-Val de Loire region. Joan of Arc famously saved the city from English siege in 1429, an event celebrated with an annual festival. A re-creation of the house where she stayed during the battle, the Maison de Jeanne d’Arc, features multimedia exhibits on her life.
Orleans, the capital of the department of the Loiret and the Centre region of France (no not Tours) is a city that has struggled to return to former glories after being devastated during World War II. History has not been kind to Orleans what with the Romans, Attila the Hun and the English all doing their best to wipe it out even before then. A few historic buildings have survived and they, along with the obvious Joan of Arc connection keep it on the Loire Valley tourist map.
Welcoming more visitors than any other attraction in the department, the Parc Floral de la Source is a semi-wild park next to the university, where Orléans meets the countryside. If you visit the tourist office they'll provide you with an itinerary to enable you to visit the main sites of interest in the city and appreciate the Romanesque churches, the many examples of renaissance architecture, the half timbered houses and the various museums throughout the city.
The three main places of interest have to be the impressive cathedral 'Ste-Croix', Hotel Groslot (former Hotel de Ville) and the re-creation of Joan of Arc's house on Place General-de-Gaulle. The kids might enjoy this more than adults so be sure to give a little insight into her history as an introduction.
Don't miss taking the kids, especially the younger ones, to Parc Floral de la Source a 32 hectare site which has everything from a butterfly kingdom ,kid's play area, puppet shows and glorious garden displays. It can be found south of the river in the direction of St-Cyr-en-Val. There is an entrance fee for adults - kids under 6 free. From the end of April to the first week in May, the anniversary of the liberation of Orleans by Joan of Arc is celebrated by a series of events including :medieval festival and market, concerts, exhibitions, sound and light displays plus various processions commencing with 'Joan' entering the city through the 'Port de Bourgogne'.
The high points of these festivities are during the first couple of days with the ceremony of the standard handed from the mayor to the bishop, the commemorative parades, concerts in the town and a firework display on the facade of the cathedral. Alot to see in Orleans such as :

Orleans is a city in north-central France, about 111 kilometres (69 mi) southwest of Paris. Orleans is the capital of the Loiret department and of the Centre-Val de Loire region. Orléans is located on the Loire River where the river curves south towards the Massif Central. New Orleans (French: La Nouvelle-Orléans), in Louisiana, United States, is named after the city.
TAO manages buses and tram lines in Orléans. Orléans is an autoroute intersection : the A10 (linking Paris to Bordeaux) links to the commune outskirts, and A71 (whose bridge over the Loire is outside the commune limits) begins here, heading for the Mediterranean via Clermont-Ferrand (where it becomes the A75). Orléans is served by two main railway stations: the central Gare d'Orléans and the Gare des Aubrais-Orléans, in the northern suburbs. Most long-distance trains call only at the Les Aubrais-Orléans station, which offers connections to Paris, Lille, Tours, Brive-la-Gaillarde, Nevers, and several regional destinations.

The garden plants Orleans is a botanical garden French of 3.5 hectares on the outskirts of the city of Orleans , south of the Loire , in the department of Loiret and the region Center-Val de Loire. The garden is located in the perimeter of the natural region of the Loire Valley registered in World Heritage of UNESCO; it is one of the three large gardens of Orleans with the floral park of the Source and the Pasteur park .
The garden is located in Orleans in the Saint-Marceau district, it is bordered by the avenues of Saint-Mesmin (departmental road 951), Roger Secrétain (departmental road 2020) and the street of the Vieille levée, 350 meters from the shore left of the Loire .
The garden is created in 1834 . Part of the plants is transplanted from an older botanical garden, created in 1640 and transferred south of the Loire following the creation of the mall of the city. François-Narcisse Pagot, architect, realizes the plans of the new garden as well as the orangery. The garden then includes an orchard for experimentation and a part dedicated to walks.
In 1958 , the orchard is replaced by a vast rose garden of 6,000 m². It is made up of 7,500 roses representing nearly 400 varieties. In 2002 , the rose garden, smaller, replaces the rose garden. Most of the rose bushes are transported to the Jean Dupont Rose Garden in Léon Chénault Park.
The garden is composed of a regular garden (also called French garden ), a rose garden , small climatic gardens, an orangery and tropical greenhouses. The cultivation of orange trees is part of the Orleans tradition, because of the mild climate of the Loire Valley. A work of the French sculptor Charles Dupaty representing Cadmos , figure of the Greek mythology , fighting the snake, is arranged on the lawn. A sculpture of a kneeling woman is in the rose garden. The garden offers games for children and various events.
