Barcelona, Spain - Parc de Montjuïc HD (2013)
Barcelona's Montjuïc is a broad shallow hill with a relatively flat top overlooking the harbour, to the southwest of the city centre. The eastern side of the hill is almost a sheer cliff, giving it a commanding view over the city's harbour immediately below. The top of the hill (a height of 184,8 m) was the site of several fortifications, the latest of which (the Castle of Montjuïc remains today. The fortress largely dates from the 17th century, with 18th-century additions. In 1842, the garrison (loyal to the Madrid government) shelled parts of the city. It served as a prison, often holding political prisoners, until the time of General Franco. The castle was also the site of numerous executions. In 1897, an incident popularly known as Els processos de Montjuïc prompted the execution of anarchist supporters, which then led to a severe repression of the workers' struggle for their rights. On different occasions during the Spanish Civil War, both Nationalists and Republicans were executed there, each at the time when the site was held by their opponents. The Catalan nationalist leader Lluís Companys i Jover was also executed there in 1940, having been extradited to the Franco government by the Nazis.
Barcelona: Montjuic Cable Car 1
Well, here we are at the Teleferic, waiting to go to Montjuic, I think that's the pronunciation, and it's taken us an hour waiting in the queue to get here. And we're at the top of the tower, and we are off!
As you see, if I sweep round, it's quite crowded in here. And we're off.
If I come in, you'll see the Tower of Columbus
You can see the new bridge and walkway that runs from near the Columbus Tower to a huge shopping mall. Notice you can't get from there to the Teleferic station of Barcelona.
This is the cruise terminal.
This cable car was built for the 1929 Exhibition.
You used to be able to stop here, so you could have a walk round, but this tower is now closed, so you can't come up. Pity,
Anyway, here we are. Oh, bit of a bump there. Well, we're going towards the edge here -' I think it's coming off the rails, we're all going to die! Oh no, my mistake, we're safe, I think.'
However, it is quite a long way down there.
Now there are the aptly called three chimneys. They used to be part of a factory, they left them up. They look like one from here, but you'll have to take my word for it, there are three.
Here's Barcelona, and up there, there's another tower, built by Norman Foster.
Down here the yellow vans of the Post or Correos - yellow seems to be the colour, Germany has yellow as well, I like the horn on the German ones.
Well, here is the Hotel Miramar, and the final station Mirador. The castle is up there, you might just be able to see the tower on the left.
Anyway, that was it, 1.3 km, quite a thrill, really. Helen's snapping away frantically, I'll close now and show you the view - the famous view - from the top.
Well, there goes the cable car, and we're near the door...actually, we're at the Mirador Restaurant, because I fancied a 'bocadillo con queso' and a drink.
It's quite pleasant here, not crowded either and catered by mandarin chineses, we makes me feel a bit at home. Here's a sweep round.
We're sitting on the sea side, for which you pay approximately one euro more a dish for the privilege of not sitting overlooking the city.
Well, there we are. A worthwhile experience, but watch out for those queues. I was told that it opens at eleven, and that's a good time to go because there are no people there.
Please have a look our video of the next stage of the Montjuic cable car (no wind!) up to the Castle itself:

Barcelona, Spain - Parc de Montjuic
Places to see in ( Barcelona - Spain ) Parc de Montjuic
Places to see in ( Barcelona - Spain ) Parc de Montjuic
Parc de Montjuic is one of Barcelona's green lungs and best vantage points. This little world of history, gardens, museums, cultural centres and Olympic facilities makes it unique. The imposing hill it occupies from the Sants neighbourhood looks towards the port and offers you an impressive city landscape.
Montjuïc Hill has borne witness to, and been the focus of key events that have shaped its personality. The first such event was the 1929 International Exhibition held in Barcelona which fostered the development of the zone. More recently, the 1992 Olympic Games brought about major renewal.
Montjuïc is also home to museums, such as the Fundació Miró , the Museu d'Arqueologia, the Museu Etnològic and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya-MNAC. The latter, which is housed in the Palau Nacional, the centrepiece of the 1929 exhibition, invites us to discover 1,000 years of Catalan art. The Pavelló Mies van der Rohe, which was the German pavilion at the event, is a superb example of Bauhaus architecture. The former Casaramona textile factory, a modernista landmark by Puig i Cadafalch, is now home to CaixaForum, a cultural centre which hosts temporary exhibitions. The Magic Fountain and the Poble Espanyol, with its artisans' village, are other places of interest in Barcelona which are a must-see.
The Olympic Ring, the main site of the Olympic Games, features the stadium, the Estadi Lluís Companys, Arata Izosaki's sports palace, the Palau Sant Jordi, and the telecommunications tower designed by Santiago Calatrava. Nearby, the Museu Olímpic i de l'Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch and the Botanical Gardens are also unmissable sights as you explore the Parc de Montjuïc.
Situated on Montjuïc, La Ciutat del Teatre, this theatre complex has given fresh impetus to the city's rich and varied cultural offer and become one of the world's foremost centres for the performing arts. It is made up of the Mercat de les Flors and the Teatre Lliure de Montjuïc.

Best Parks in Barcelona, Spain - Park de Montjuïc | The Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer Gardens
In our final serie of Best Barcelona Parks we will show you our favourite park on Montjuïc hill, which is by itself can be called the jewel of all green spaces in Barcelona, The Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer Gardens. It has everything you can ask from a good park: wide shaded alleys, sunny glades, water fountains and flower blossom.
#barcelona #bestparks #sights #monjuic #mossencintoverdaguer #monjuichill #parkguide #whattoseeinbarcelona #explorebarcelona #flowergarden #waterfountains #funicular #greenjewel #specialplaces #greenplaces #relaxinthecity #mustvisit
Lots of the people prefer this place to disconnect from the big city and listen to the birds singing, enjoying flower blossom, and having a picnic on the wide grassy spaces of the park. As the garden situated on a gentle slope it offers you a good view of Barcelona and the sea. The periods of the large-scale blossoming: March and April, and from the end of June to the start of September.
The best way to get to this park is getting off on the Parallel metro station green line 3 and then taking the funicular that will take you right up on the Monjuic hill.
The entrance to the park is free. The opening hours vary according to the period of the year. In winter (01.11 - 31.03) it's open from 10:00 to 19:00h, and in summer (01.04 - 31.10) from 10:00 to 21:00h.
We had lived in Barcelona for 3 years and decided to share the best parks that we discovered and enjoyed the most.
We hope that you found this video useful and interesting to watch.

BARCELONA WALK | Citadel Park incl. Waterfall and Boating Lake | Spain
A first-person perspective Barcelona walk tour of Citadel Park (Parc de la Ciutadella), a beautiful park with monumental waterfall, boating lake and Parliament of Catalonia building.
Experience all of the sights and sounds as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of Barcelona, featuring a walk in Barcelona's Citadel Park (Parc de la Ciutadella). The tour begins outside the park's north-western entrance on Passeig de Pujades, then takes a gentle stroll through the park, finishing towards the southern end of the park by the entrance to Barcelona Zoo.
Sights seen along the tour include the Castle of the Three Dragons (Castell dels Tres Dragons), modern sculpture by Antoni Clave, tight-rope walker, boating lake, monumental waterfall (Cascada Monumental) built for the Universal Exposition in 1888 and designed by Fontsere, gold ‘Chariot of Aurora’ (‘Quadriga de l’Aurora') sculpture by Rossend Nobas, Mammoth (Mamut), sculpture ‘To the Catalan Volunteers’ (‘Als Voluntaris Catalans’) by Josep Clarà, Joan Fiveller Square (Plaça de Joan Fiveller), Parliament of Catalonia (Parlament de Catalunya), school (Institut Verdaguer), place of worship (Parroquia Castrense de la Ciutadella), equestrian statue of General Prim (Estàtua eqüestre del general Prim) by Lluís Puiggener, and entrance to Barcelona Zoo (Parc Zoològic de Barcelona).
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!
Footage recorded June 2017.

Barcelona: Montjuic Castle
Well, here we are at the top Telefèric station, and we're at the Castle. Sorry this is into the sun, but it's picturesque; we'll be up there soon.
We're on the bridge overlooking the gardens, just outside the Castle Montjuic.
OK, here we are on the topmost corner of the battlements of the Castle Montjuic.
I'll sweep round, it wasn't a difficult walk up here, an interesting ride on the Telefèric, which you could have seen in my film of that, and here's the station - not far, as you can see.
And here, is Barcelona.
As I move round into the sun, to give you the full 360 (degrees).
Sorry, that was my hand, shading you from the sun.
And there we are. As you can see, there's a queue of people waiting to come in, so I'll make my way through.
Excuse me, ladies...thank you!
That is the flag of Lluís Companys, the Catalan leader who was shot here in 1936.
And here's Helen, waiting.
