Brighton and Hove best place to wine and dine in the UK
Brighton and Hove's bars and restaurant's are simply the best.
That is the verdict of a prestigious travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller as it ranks our city the top place to wine and dine in the UK.
Latest TV's James Dunham has been sampling the bars - all in a good cause.

Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival
Foodies and traders turned out in scores for the Big Sussex Food Market on New Road, Brighton over the Easter Weekend.
The market is a key event in Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival’s busy calendar and is one of the largest local food events in the UK with over 120 stalls.
It is a free access event, designed to promote local business and showcase the variety of growers across the county.
This year, for the first time, stallholders offered at least one freebie or a taster portion for £1 alongside their other wares.

The Videographer’s rant:
Although i worked at 720p dvd resolution, I made Stereo recordings for smartphone as ofcom say that now most people use them to surf the internet. I also don’t like compression buffering, when viewing High definition on public wi-fi, so i make the lowest possible pixel count videos of acceptable quality. That does not pander to artist’s egos, But such are quicker to upload in a cyber cafe. I took two portable LED Lithium ion worklights, one small on a flash-bar with white diffusers and apricot filters, another larger, with white diffusers and a36 generic theatre pink stage wash filters. The rode videomicpro was set at -10dB, as i do not have audio metering and i don’t like the agc (automatic gain control) compression artifacts. The lighting was poor for video, but atmospheric, hence grain in the footage. the slick 500g tripod wobbled as people passed bye, but i like portability comfort almost above all. the guitar sounds a bit low in the mix (i was not producing). The view finder was too small to see the shots properly and dims a short while after pressing start record. It beggars belief, that i have not seen a nylon pan head bush on a cheap tripod yet. post Production: Conversion of imported files takes forever ( having set in and out points and fisheye curves removal). The software crashed exporting and would not quit. Alt + command + escape. Exporting files takes forever. I had to enhance colours and adjust the volume higher.

320 by 180 pixels .mp4 seems smartphone size = 1/4 DVD size. That makes sense for watching where there are start up and buffering issues, such as, in pubs and cafes etc. where lots of people are using broadband of dubious capacity. Hence: Editor's Choice - Jazz Machine 4Smartphone/ Stereo.mp4
Note the wide angle lens and not enough light for videography, hence grain. So, I am having to set the white balance in post production and turn the temperature up. I removed the fisheye lens curves. The camera has a maximum track length of 11 minutes and 49 seconds, then it stops and starts a new track file… annoying! There is a slight glitch when you stitch tracks together: two here! So, you have to stop start the recording for every song! Anyhow, 7 vinyl singles used to be about 3 minutes long. People only look on youtube for about 1 and 2/3rds minutes anyhow… perhaps, the videos are too static! Artists expect expertly framed, multi-angle and multi-distance shots… zooms and pans, effects and perfect sound, all for free! I suppose that I should try to fade the audio in and out, but it's quarter to midnight and I like sharp dynamic attack, (waves have a graphical shape: an attack, decay, sustain and release envelope)! No metering or gain adjustment on the camera, just -10dB on the microphone if it gets too loud, otherwise the rhythm pumps with the vocals (automatic gain control)…a hit and miss, guessing game! These videos are recorded on 1/2 electret stereo XY stereo mics that roll of at low E 40Hz, because I like to hear bass. I would like to try two shotgun mics facing forward, ear distance apart.
Lighting Tech (not used here): See rotolight (that would get in the way of the line of sight of the audience and blow about) also Zylight the Newz $429 both available now.

Roderick Hart Trio or Quartet, Live at The Queen Victoria.
Saturday 28th March 2015. Admission Free!
Afternoon Jazz and Brunch at ‘The Queen Victoria’ 56 High Street, Rottingdean, East Sussex, England, UK from about 2.40pm to 5.00pm. It is near the Brighton seaside on the 27, 14, 12, 13 and 2A bus routes.
The Roderick Hart Trio:
Roderick Hart - piano
Paul Whitten - bass
Dave Trigwell - drums
+ Imogen Ryall - singer (later on… say 4.15 pm).
These videos are recorded on electret stereo XY stereo mics.
The 720p DVD quality videos:
001
002 We Know: Almost goes into ‘Give Me Sunshine’ for a moment!:
003 Two numbers! The first has a double bass solo. I particularly like ‘the tickling of the ivories’ on the second track!:
005 Three tracks: ’Summer Nights’ A whole jazz band video with singer Imogen Ryall, has a double bass solo. Third track: ‘When It Rains’ sounds like pop music. It sounded alright… at least it is not distorting, then it timed out aargh… I liked it!
006 It Rains: A misty white balance (video blur!) …various tracks… a bit of a double bass solo about 3/4 through.
007 Chega Latino. The ‘no mix’ recording is drum and glass-clean heavy. There is a bass solo.
Roderick Hart mp4: NICE! Unfortunately, just a taster… Almost goes into ‘Give Me Sunshine’ for a moment again! That the bass sounds deeper and better off axes to the player’s combo amp, that suggests directivity of loudspeaker’s timbre / frequency or wavelength emanation.

Perhaps Imogen Ryall needs a Shure SM 58 Beta microphone for vocal acuity or a radio mic to prevent tripping up punters?

Editor’s Rant:
Note the deadcat wind-jammer hairs in the way, to the left of the picture sometimes, I should have taken it off indoors! Notice the two lens reflections of the wall lighting, so perhaps the protective clear lens cap is not such a good idea after all! Setting the white balance helped in post production! Having held an A4 white photocopy paper a foot or so in front of the lens helps! Remember advance settings: click ‘remove fisheye’ also ‘remember settings for future clips’. 11 minutes 49s. 07 seems to be a naff a default time limit for recording Go Pro track length… that is very annoying. The drummer didn't like the lighting glare.. I have tweaked it to a lower intensity since. Lighting Tech: See rotolight (that would get in the way of the line of sight of the audience) also Zylight the Newz $429 available May.

Anyhow, 7” vinyl singles used to be about 2 and 1/2 minutes long. People only look on youtube for about 1 and 2/3rds minutes anyhow… perhaps, the videos are too static! Artists expect expertly framed, multi-angle and multi-distance shots… zooms and pans, effects and perfect sound, all for free! I suppose that I should try to fade the audio in and out, but it’s quarter to midnight and I like sharp dynamic attack, (waves have a graphical shape: an attack, decay, sustain and release envelope)! No metering or gain adjustment on the camera, just -10dB on the microphone if it gets too loud, otherwise the rhythm pumps with the vocals (automatic gain control)…a hit and miss, guessing game! These videos are recorded on electret stereo XY stereo mics that roll of at low E 40Hz, because I like to hear bass. I would like to try two shotgun mics facing forward, ear distance apart.
Lighting Tech (not used here): See rotolight (that would get in the way of the line of sight of the audience) also Zylight the Newz $429 both available now.
