We started our Indian street food tour in Kolkata by warming up with a nice Indian breakfast, right on the street corner. You can order samosas, potato curry chickpea sabzi, jalebi, and hot tea as well. All of these go so well in the morning and wake you up and get you ready to start your day.
After that amazing Indian street breakfast, we went to try perhaps the most beautiful and photogenic Indian street food lunch stall I've ever seen. It really was like walking up to CURRY HEAVEN! There were so many delicious curries to choose from, and there was a huge pot of CHICKEN biryani right on the street. The Chicken looked so tender and you could see the steam and all the juices were infused into the basmati rice. You could also smell the cardamom in the biryani!
After that life changing Indian curry meal, we made our way to try a bunch more delicious street foods. There were so many to choose from!

To start our street food tour, we woke up early in the morning to have an Indian Breakfast, an Indian street food breakfast! We went to a local tea shop to have some chai tea and a super delicious potato curry, known as a sabzi, and a flavourful kachori to dip it in! Watching the Indian restaurants and street food stalls like this in action, preparing and cooking the Indian recipes that have been done like this for generations is simply amazing!
After tasting that saffron and sugar packed chai, along with the amazing potato vegetarian curry, we kept exploring the back streets of Kolkata to try and eat the best street foods of Kolkata.
Here, you can travel to India just for the food, and that's exactly what we did!
After the tea, we went to find some classic Bengali street foods on the street corners, and found a super flavourful bhel puri AKA puffed rice with a spicy mango chutney! This was actually very sour and spicy and so delicious!
We then continued traveling in Kolkata's busy and spice scented streets for more delicious foods, and found the amazing hot kathi roll.
This is marinated chicken in a ton of spice and yoghurt, wrapped up in a freshly fried paratha that's covered in a couple eggs, almost like an omelette, a HUGE omelette over top of the paratha! Then the paratha is wrapped up right on the street and you can taste the amazing flavors!
After that, we enjoyed a walk through the busy streets of Kolkata and made our way to deckers lane, the most iconic heritage street food mecca of Kolkata, to try an amazing and spice packed chicken stew. It was quite peppery and delicious!
After a quick walk and one street orange juice later, we arrived at Arsalan biryani rice and curry Indian restaurant to taste the famous mutton biryani and also try the amazing selection of spicy Indian curries. These bengali specialties were simply delicious, a MUST try thing here in Kolkata.
Here are the addresses for the street food locations we tried in Kolkata:
1) Street Chai Tea with Aloo Vegetarian Curry at ATS Arun Tea Stall
2) Bhel Puri puffed spicy rice snack - New Market area street stall
3) Kolkata's Famous Kathi Roll at Kusum's Roll on Park Street, Kolkata
4) Famous Chicken soup on Deckers lane
5) Amazingly Fresh Orange juice right on the street right near KC Das Sweet Shop
6) HUGE Bengali Indian restaurant dinner - Featuring Bengali Biryani spiced rice and a ton of delicious curry dishes - at ARSALAN park Circus
This is part 1 of 5 in our Kolkata Street Food tour series, and part 1 of many in our Indian street food tour series, we are going to keep coming back to India, probably twice per year, the street food and the local Indian recipes are just too good!

Some Institutions in Park Street, Kolkata
When it began life in late eighteenth century, Park Street was known primarily for the cemetery where the Europeans in Calcutta buried their dead. Today it is one of the most high profile parts of Kolkata housing world famous schools, colleges, research institutes, and even iconic hotels, restaurants and pubs. This documentary is a modest attempt to recall the past and present of some of the most defining institutions located in Park Street--the cemetery, the Asiatic Society and St. Xavier's College. Slices of the European pasts come alive as Priyanka Roy visits these places and meets those who look after them today. A poignant story of a past no longer possible to relive. It is heartening to note, however, that some of these institutions, like St Xavier's School and College are looking forward to a future with plans of expansion and global networking. The feature is conceived and directed by Minoti Chatterjee.

11 Best Things To Do in Kolkata, India (Calcutta) - Kolkata Food and Travel Guide!
Here are 11 of the best things to do in Kolkata, India!

Kolkata, India, was the first city I visited when I went to India, and after traveling throughout the northern part of the country, Kolkata was one of my favorite cities. It sure is huge and chaotic as you would expect, yet at the same time it's such a fascinating city full of life, culture, and lots of delicious food. Now let's get right into these top 11 things to do in Kolkata, India.
1. Mother Teresa Home - The first thing on the list is the Mother Teresa home which in Kolkata is just known as Mother's Home. It's the location where Mother Teresa lived, worked, and influenced many many people. At the small Catholic mission you can go inside, see Mother's tomb where she's buried and also see the room where she spent much of her time writing and thinking. There's also a small little museum where you can see some of her possessions.
2. Victoria Memorial Hall - Second on the list of top things to do in Kolkata (Calcutta) is the Victoria Memorial Hall which happens to be one of the most important landmarks in the entire city. The outside of the hall, which is built in Victorian style, is surrounded by nice gardens where you can walk around. The entrance to the park is just 4 Rupees. If you choose to go to the inside, the cost is 150 Rupees and you can get into the museum.
3. South Park Street Cemetery - One of the spookiest attractions in Kolkata (Calcutta), is the South Park Street Cemetery, a dark garden that's full of huge tombs. The cemetery is free to enter, though they'll ask your for a donation when you either enter or exit.
4. Khalighat Kali Temple - Dedicated to the Hindu Goddess of Kali, is the most famous and sacred Hindu Temple in Kolkata (Calcutta). The temple is nearly always busy and in order to enter you've got to take off your shoes. Surrounding the temple is a busy market. Be careful when you visit the Kalighat Temple, there are many scams and people people that will ask for donations.
5. New Market - Next on this video list of Kolkata attractions is the New Market, sort of the center of the city with lots of energy. The New Market has an indoor section where you can shop for everything from clothes to electronics, but in my opinion, it's the outdoors area surrounding the market that's the most interesting. Here you'll find food, clothes, fruit, spices, and just about everything else you can possibly imagine. You can also have the opportunity to take a Kolkata human powered rickshaw in this area.
6. Indian Museum - Coming in next is the Indian Museum in Kolkata, one of the original museums in all of India. It's a huge museum and the highlight of the many exhibitions is the Egyptian mummy and numerous other valuable collections. The museum is also known as the Magic House.
7. Belur Math - Located north of the main part of the city is Belur Math, a private temple that's located along the banks of the Hooghly River. The temple is quiet and relaxing, and because they don't allow any videos or photos, I had to take the video from near the gate where they didn't have security.
8. Dakshineswar Kali Temple - Across and upstream the river from Belur Math is the huge Dakshineswar Kali Temple, one of the most famous Hindu temples in Kolkata. It's north of Kolkata, but it's worth a trip there to see the crowds and to see people bathing in the river.
9. Mullik Ghat Flower Market - Next up is the center flower market of Kolkata. The market, which is located below the Howrah Bridge, is just a fascinating sight of moving colorful flowers.
10. Terreti Market - Occupying Sun Yat Sen road, is the early morning Chinese food market which is known as Terreti Bazar. It makes a perfect place to get a morning breakfast of Chinese food when you're in town.
11. Kolkata Street Food - Last but not least for things to do in Kolkata is eat street food. There's a lot to eat and it's mouthwatering good!

Street Food in India - Bengali Fish Curry and Rice on Camac Street, Kolkata, India!
Check out my website for lots more Indian street food! | Have Facebook?
Kolkata (Calcutta), India, is one of the most best cities in the world when it comes to street food. A quick walk around the central part of town and you'll find jhal muri, kati rolls, ghugni chaat, pani puri, and plenty of other delicacies. But when it comes to full meal options, a snack just won't cut it, and you need real plate of rice - and luckily, Kolkata is full of street food meals as well.
In this video I went over to Camac Street, just south of Park Street for lunch. It's a business street, not overly crowded or dirty, and they are known for serving lots of food to employees each day for lunch. There are a number of places to choose from, and when I saw a crowd gathered at this lunch stall serving Bengali food, I was ready to order. I had no clue what he was serving as everything was contained in big pots with the lids shut, so I just ended up order a mixed plate with fish curry. It was accompanied by cauliflower curry and some kind of potato curry as well as a chutney and pickled onions and carrots. Standing on the side of the Camac Street I dug in with my fingers. The food was wonderfully tasty, the fish was especially good.
After cleaning my plate clean, you just toss your plastic plate on the ground somewhere and proceed to wash your hands while someone pours water for you.
One of the best things about eating street food in Kolkata is that it won't break your budget. This delicious full lunch of rice and curry cost me just 30 Indian Rupees, which is equivalent to about $0.55 cents, a pretty steal of a deal in my opinion!
If you're not full, you can proceed to eating any number of other street food along the road or just grab a cup of chai in a clay cup.
It's really easy to get to Camac Street in Kolkata, it's just off the main Park Street, then go down Camac Street at lunchtime and you'll be greeted by delicious street food!
