The Park an der Ilm is a large Landschaftspark in Weimar, Thuringia. It was created in the 18th century, influenced by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and has not been changed much, preserving a park of the period. It forms part of the World Heritage Site Classical Weimar.
The park is located on both banks of the river Ilm for 1.0 kilometre (0.62 mi) from the Schloss in the north to the suburb of Oberweimar in the south. The park is part of a much longer greenway along the river, including the park of Schloss Belvedere in the north and the park of Schloss Tiefurt. The Park an der Ilm is divided into the Goethe-Park and the Dux-Garten.
Landscaping for the park began in 1778, influenced by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, in the style of an English landscape garden, in modification of a Baroque garden. Goethe had purchased a garden house in the park in 1776, which now carries his name. The Wörlitz park, which Goethe had visited regularly from 1776 and which served as the setting of his 1809 novel Die Wahlverwandtschaften, was a model.
After planting special trees from 1778, systematic work began in 1785. Goethe's house and the opposite Roman House (de) are among many architectural features of the park, including bridges and monuments. The design was finished in 1823 with the Tempelherrenhaus. A suspension bridge was built in 1833. From 1848 to 1852, court gardener Eduard Petzold created views to Goethe's garden house and the Roman house. A monument to Shakespeare was erected in 1904 by Otto Lessing on a commission of the Deutsche Shakespeare-Gesellschaft, founded in Weimar in 1864. Poets Louis Fürnberg, Adam Mickiewicz, Sándor Petőfi and Alexander Puschkin were also honoured by busts in the park.
The park contains valuable trees, mostly local varieties, but also some foreign trees, especially from North America. In 1993, 770 maples, 455 ash trees, 381 linden, 291 chestnuts and 257 hornbeams were counted, with an average age of 80 to 150 years at the time. From 1969, the park was taken care of by Gartendirektion der Nationalen Forschungs- und Gedenkstätten der klassischen deutschen Literatur. Since 1998, it has become part of the World Heritage Site Classical Weimar.

Weimar was quite the intellectual hotspot back in the day, with Goethe, Friedrich Schiller, Bach, Liszt, Lucas Cranach and the Weimar School all spending time here. Goethe groupies will enjoy visiting his home, his tomb and the museum dedicated to him. If you’re in search of great food, visit during the Weimar Onion Market, held in October. (Just don’t forget your mints.)
Weimar is a city in the federal state of Thuringia, Germany. It is located between Erfurt in the west and Jena in the east, approximately 80 kilometres southwest of Leipzig, 170 kilometres north of Nuremberg and 170 kilometres west of Dresden.

Anna Amalia Bibliothek - Unique library and art selection, famous for it's rococo style. A fire in 2004 did great damage but the library reopened in 2007.
Nationaltheater - Foundation place of the first German democracy in 1918 and successor of the Weimar Hof theatre where Goethe's premieres took place. Well-known theatre today.
Park an der Ilm - Picturesque garden with Goethes summer house. Lie down on the lawn and enjoy the scenery.
Belvedere - charming park with summer castle a short distance to the south of the city
Goethe- and Schiller-Memorial in the Theaterplatz - This is a very famous memorial for two great German writers.
Buchenwald - for a more somber outing, one can visit the famous Jewish concentration camp, just over the hill from Weimar in Ettersberg. It's a 20 minute bus ride from the train station. The Stalinist monument erected outside the camp once the Soviets took over is visible from the city.

Ilm River Weimar, Germany
The Ilm is a 128.7 kilometers long river in Thuringia, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Saale, into which it flows in Großheringen near Bad Kösen. Towns along the Ilm are Ilmenau, Stadtilm, Kranichfeld, Bad Berka, Weimar, Apolda and Bad Sulza.

Petit souvenir de la période trop courte -et déjà finie- où il faisait beau et chaud à Weimar.
J'ai profité d'un dimanche ensoleillé le mois dernier (quelques images proviennent d'un jour différent, d'où le changement météorologique) pour vous tourner ces quelques images. Bienvenue dans un de mes endroits préférés à Weimar, le Park an der Ilm (l'Ilm, c'est la rivière qui coule au mlieu du parc, CQFD).

Weimar is a city in central Germany. It's known as the birthplace of Weimar Classicism, a humanistic cultural movement. The Goethe & Schiller Monument in front of the German National Theater celebrates the 2 writers, who lived in the city. Goethe’s baroque residence is now the Goethe National Museum. The Schiller Museum is adjacent to the writer’s home. Bauhaus Museum Weimar has works by architect Walter Gropius.
The historical epicentre of Germany's 18th-century Enlightenment, Weimar is an essential stop for anyone with a passion for the country's history and culture. A pantheon of intellectual and creative giants lived and worked here: Goethe, Schiller, Bach, Cranach, Liszt, Nietzsche, Gropius, Herder, Feininger, Kandinsky – and the list goes on. You’ll see them memorialised on the streets, in museums and in reverently-preserved houses across town. In summer, Weimar’s many parks and gardens lend themselves to quiet contemplation of all this intellectual and cultural gravity (or allow you to take a break from it).
