Comedy Roundtable: Joe Parker and South African Standup
What is the one thing that has set South African standup apart from standup in any other country in the world? Joe Parker, South African comedy legend and founder of Parker's Comedy and Jive in Johannesburg, joins South African comics Mpho Popps, John Vlismas, and Celeste Ntuli and Stand Up Planet host Hasan Minhaj, to talk about what comedy sounds like in a country where the days of apartheid are still a recent memory.
Stand Up Planet showcases an uprising of fresh and fearless comics around globe, changing the world one joke at a time. Equal parts reality TV, documentary journey and travelogue, Stand Up Planet brings viewers on a quest to find the best humor coming from far corners of the developing world. Hosted by L.A.-based comic, Hasan Minhaj (Arrested Development, MTV's Failosophy) and featuring stand up comics Nate Bargatze, James Adomian and Michelle Buteau, Minhaj invites two comics from India and South Africa to perform in Hollywood for a television special. Along the way they meet comedy legends: Bill Cosby, Carl Reiner and producer, Norman Lear.
Premieres May 14th on LinkTV, KCET and PIVOT.

He has been increasing revenues for tailors as Pravesh is known for leaving his audiences in stitches, Pravesh Mungaldave’s trajectory on SA’s mainstream comedy circuit has been swift and steady since he won the Gauteng Humorous Speech Contest in 2008 as the only novice entrant. He has been seen sharing the stage with some of South Africa’s legendary comics at leading venues such as at The Playhouse in Durban, Johannesburg Civic Theatre and Pretoria State Theatre. Frequent performances have included gigs at comedy clubs throughout South Africa, from Ozone in Soweto to Parker's Comedy at Monte Casino to the Cape Town Comedy Club.

Considered one of South Africa's best solo comedies, Defending the Caveman explores the difficulties of romance and relationships in a comedic way. As one of the country's longest-running and most successful solo comedy, this tongue-and-cheek show will form part of Parker's Comedy and Jive at Monte Casino in Johannesburg.
