Road to 150: The Best Things To Do in Manitoba
In this video, we share some of the best things to do in Manitoba, including Winnipeg and Churchill!
Welcome to Manitoba, Canada!
Right in the middle of Canada lies the province of Manitoba, which is home to the city of Winnipeg, some incredible lakes, and the polar bear and beluga whale capital of the world.
We learned about the history of human rights, did yoga with goats, learned about Canada’s history with the Hudson Bay Company, and snorkeled with beluga whales. We also relaxed in a Nordic-inspired spa, stood in the centre of Canada, and walked on the arctic tundra. We really packed a lot of adventures into our ten short days and can't wait to return one day and explore the province further.
We explored Manitoba from July 14 - July 26, 2017.

We will drive to and through every driveable province and territory, showcasing Canada's natural beauty and regional attractions while interviewing Canadians of all cultures and backgrounds, including local celebrities, immigrants, refugees, and everyday rural and urban Canadians. Our aim is to dig deep into what makes Canada such an incredibly inspiring country while showing off the best of Canada's tourism to Canadians and to the world.

Toronto, Historic Fort York - Canada HD Travel Channel
Historic Fort York of 1783 is regarded as origin of Toronto.
It is the largest collection of old buildings from the War of 1812. During summer months, you can watch the hourly demonstrations in historical costumes. During a visit, one can clearly see the difference in comfort between officer and crew quarters.
In 1615 the Frenchman Etienne Brule and Samuel de Champlain reached this place as first Europeans. The first fur trading posts emerged in 1720. The first settlements date from 1788, after the British had bought the land from the Mississauga Indians and had constructed Fort York. During the War of 1812, the city was twice occupied by the Americans. Still today, the Canadians see the war as a successful defensive battle against the expansionism of Americans and as a significant contribution to the formation of a Canadian national sentiment.
It in this respect is not surprising that the Canadians see Fort York as one of the birth places of Canada. Since 1923, Historic Fort York is a National Historic Site.

Mississauga Travel Guide - Canada Amazing Atmosphere
Mississauga is a city in the Canadian province of Ontario and a suburb of Toronto. It is situated on the shores of Lake Ontario in the Regional Municipality of Peel, bordering Toronto. The growth of Mississauga is attributed to its proximity to Toronto. During the latter half of the 20th century, the city attracted a multicultural population and built up a thriving central business district. It is home to Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada's busiest airport, as well as the headquarters of many Canadian and multinational corporations.
Mississauga has many different neighbourhoods including the incorporated townships. There are 22 neighbourhoods in Mississauga.

Mississauga is reasonably accessible from Toronto by transit. GO Transit runs trains during rush hour and buses the rest of the day from various terminals in Toronto to several stations in Mississauga. Square One shopping centre contains the main bus terminal for the city, it is regularly served by GO buses as well as local Mississauga Transit buses.
Port Credit is an older, historic village at the centre of Mississauga's Lake Ontario shore features many intimate small restaurants, cafes and bars. Annual events include the Waterfront Festival and Jazz/Bluefest. Nice Marina and walking paths at the Credit River entrance and along the lakeshore.
Streetsville is a small village is where the renowned mayor of Mississauga, Hazel McCallion, resides. It has many shops, restaurants, and green areas to explore. Visit in June to enjoy the Bread and Honey Festival or in winter months for Remembrance Day services and the Santa Claus Parade.
Mississauga has over 350 parks of various sizes. Many small parkettes with trees and park benches form green spaces in busy neighbourhoods. Other large sports parks feature baseball diamonds, tennis courts, soccer and football fields. There is also an authentic Japanese park right in the City Centre as well as 9 picnic parks, many of them offering barbeque facilities.
Wahoosh Falls. To get a sample of the nearby Hamilton waterfalls concentration, head down the ravine at Burnhamthorpe Rd W and Mississauga Rd. A miniature 10ft waterfall is a fair reward after a healthy urban hike
Mississauga has a vibrant arts community, promoted by the Mississauga Arts Council, which holds an annual awards ceremony, called the MARTYs, to celebrate the city's entertainers, artists, filmmakers, writers, and musicians. Mississauga's largest festivities such as Canada Day Celebration, Mississauga Rotary Ribfest, Tree Lighting Ceremony, and New Year's Eve Bash generally occur in Celebration Square.

Stanley Park and more (part 2)
How did you start your May 2011? Such a beautiful day in Vancouver on the first day of May.. so we rented bikes and cruised around Stanley Park Seawall, Lost Lagoon and Coal Harbour Seawall, which took us along the Coal Harbour. There we passed by Devonian Harbour Park, Cardero Park, Coal Harbour Quay, Harbour Green Park and Vancouver Convention Centre (right next to Canada Place, Waterfront).

Exploring the Nobbies Phillip Island
Come with us exploring the Nobbies Phillip Island, just 90 minutes drive from Melbourne in Victoria. The Nobbies is a dramatic piece of coastline on the South Western tip of Phillip Island. You also get some great views of seal rocks, just off the coast line. Don't be surprised if you spot a fur seal or 2.
Phillip Island is the favourite holiday destination for Melbourne locals. It is just over an hour away, and has some dramatic coastal scenery. And one of the best is the Nobbies, which includes a fantastic boardwalk and blowhole.
We follow the boardwalk at the Nobbies out to the blowhole. Along the way we encounter some of the local wildlife including penguins, wallabies, mutton birds and other sea birds. When we arrive at the blowhole we see the explosive eruptions of water exiting this cave like feature of the coastline.
It's only about a 10 minute walk from the nobbies car park to the blowhole, and there are a few stairs on the way. Afterwards you can stick around to check out the Nobbies information centre.
The boardwalk to the Nobbies is very exposed to the wind from the ocean. You need to make sure you have sufficiently rugged up with good clothing. I suggest you bring a thick jacket, as it will be colder than the surrounding areas.
This is one of the premier must see attractions at Phillip Island, Victoria.

The Great Beluga Rescue
READ : An Uncommon Visitor to a New Brunswick River:
In June 2017, a young beluga made an extraordinary journey from an unfamiliar river, to its natural habitat, more than 300 km away. It had been stuck in the Nepisiguit River’s freshwaters for a couple of weeks, away from its pod. Fisheries and Oceans Canada, along with non-profit organizations and marine mammal experts, agreed that attempting to relocate the young whale in the St. Lawrence estuary gave it the best chance of survival.
The rescue was completed when the beluga was able to dive back in the St. Lawrence estuary on the evening of June 15. Even though the signal of the electronic tracker that allowed us to assess the health and location of the beluga was lost, the rescue is nonetheless considered a success. It provided a great learning opportunity to scientists and experts, which will help with recovery efforts of this endangered population.
Thank you to the organizations that participated in the rescue operations: Groupe de recherche et d’éducation sur les mammifères marins; Marine Animal Response Society; Bathurst, Robertville and St. Anne Fire Departments; Bathurst Police Force; the Maritime Marine Animal Response Network; Urgences Mammifères Marins; la Faculté de médecine vétérinaire de l'Université de Montréal; Shedd Aquarium; Vancouver Aquarium; Bathurst Regional Airport; Parks Canada; Transport Canada; The Whale Stewardship Project; Port de Gros-Cacouna; Arrimage Quebec; Rivière-du-Loup Airport; Chrono Aviation; Police de Rivière-du-Loup; Centre de remorquage 2000 and many volunteers! A special thank you to Gilbert Sewell, elder of the Pabineau First Nation.
RMNACSTC Freedom of the Town Banff, Alberta, 4 Aug 2012
RMNACSTC Freedom of the Town Banff, Alberta, 4 Aug 2012.
Freedom of the City, or Freedom of Entry, is an honour bestowed by some municipalities in Australia, Canada, Croatia, France, Gibraltar, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe to esteemed members of its community and to organisations to be honoured, often for service to the community; the term applies to two separate honours, one civilian and one military.
Freedom of the City is an ancient honour granted to martial organizations, allowing them the privilege to march into the city with drums beating, colours flying, and bayonets fixed.
This honour dates back to the laws of ancient Rome that made it a capital offence for Roman legions to enter the city in formation or with weapons without permission. This was meant to ensure that ambitious generals did not mount a military coup against the Senate. (It was that law that Julius Caesar broke when crossing the Rubicon.) Similar laws were passed by cities throughout the Medieval era, also to protect civic security and rights, even against their own king's troops.
However, legions, regiments, or other martial groups that had given heroic service or whose honour was beyond question, might be granted Freedom of the City: the group would not have to disarm or break ranks before the city gates were opened to them. Given the serious risk the city would be running, this was a rare honour.
Today, martial freedom of the city is an entirely ceremonial honour, but remains the oldest and one of the highest civic honours in the Commonwealth of Nations.
The Freedom of the Town (City) was awarded to Banff National Army Cadet Camp in July 1990. Since that time, it has been exercised every few years wit ha parade down Banff Avenue. The unique culture of Banff being a tourist towns affords an opportunity for visitors from near and far to view the parade.
The first ever Freedom of the City for cadets anywhere in Canada was awarded to Vernon Army Cadet Camp in Vernon BC, on Aug 4, 1979 in honour of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets 100th anniversary and the Cadet Camp's 30th anniversary.
