Wandering Walk through Parkville, MO
Parkville is located in Platte County, Missouri, United States. Parkville is known for its antique shops, art galleries, and historic downtown. The city is home to Park University and English Landing Park.
Parkville is named for George S. Park who bought the steamboat landing concession on the Missouri River in 1838 shortly after the Platte Purchase from the Native Americans opened the area for settlement.

Day Hike at Parkville Nature Sanctuary - Old Root Cellar, 1949 Girl Scout Cabin, Waterfalls, & More
Today we went for a hike at the Parkville Nature Sanctuary in Missouri. We hiked all the marked trails there as well as some unmarked ones. Along the way we come across waterfalls, an old root cellar that used to be managed by students at nearby Park University many years ago, and a Girl Scout cabin built in 1949 that has been converted to a shelter. Spring has come and we shared some stories while enjoying all that the nature sanctuary had to offer.

STORYLINE
US President Barack Obama made the first public appearance of his vacation on Monday, stopping by one of his favourite local shops for a Hawaiian snow cone known as shave ice.
The president, dressed casually in a black polo shirt, khaki shorts and flip-flops, ordered a flavour combination of melon, lemon-lime and cherry at Island Snow, a store Obama has frequented during past trips to Hawaii.
The president chatted with excited workers and asked them about their holidays as he placed about a dozen more orders for his family and friends.
The president stood outside under cloudy, threatening skies to enjoy his shave ice with daughters Malia and Sasha, and several of the family friends from Hawaii and Chicago who have joined Obama here.
Monday afternoon's outing was the first time the president has been spotted outside his rented oceanfront home or the nearby Marine base since he arrived here late on Wednesday.
After a frenzied legislative session that forced the president to delay the start of his trip, aides say rest and relaxation is at the top of Obama's agenda during his almost two-week vacation.
The president spent much of the cloudy, drizzly Hawaiian day indoors at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, bowling with his daughters and playing basketball with friends.
The base has become a sanctuary for the president on his Hawaiian vacations.
The president golfs on the base course, the first couple uses its gym for morning workouts and the first family often visits a secluded beach here.
But the Obamas haven't had much in the way of beach weather since the president arrived here. Clouds hung over the island of Oahu on Monday, and more rain is forecast throughout the week.
The Obamas are expected to stay in Hawaii through January 2.

River Angels, by Rod Wellington
Download Transcript:
“River Angels,
by Rod Wellington, Tuesday, August 23, 2016.
Rod Wellington on the Jefferson River in 2013.
In 2013, Rod Wellington, owner of his own publishing company
(Crow Books), paddled his way past Kansas City as the first North
American to travel “Source to Sea” from Brower Spring near the
Montana Continental Divide to the Gulf of Mexico. Inspired by
that trip and others, he has self-published a book called “River
Angels”. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the simultaneous
organization of three separate self-propelled expeditions and the
dynamic individuals who took part in those expeditions.
The book, “River Angels,” also introduces the world to a
burgeoning network of altruistic “river angels”-riverside
citizens who not only assist long-distance paddlers, but also
help preserve and promote the rivers they love.
Rod Wellington spent eight unfulfilling years frowning his way
through a landscaping job he despised. In 2011, he parked his
lawnmower for the last time and enthusiastically began pursuing
his true passion: adventure. Now he smiles every day.
On April 2, 2013, Rod became the first Canadian (and first North
American) to kayak the Missouri-Mississippi river system from
source to sea, a distance of 3800 miles/6100km. The solo journey
took 256 days to complete. Rod’s triumphant arrival at the Gulf
of Mexico marked the completion of Stage One of his Magnificent
Seven Expedition, a personal quest to descend the longest river
system on each continent from source to sea using only
human-powered transportation (on foot, kayak and raft). He
estimates it will take 15 years to complete the project. Rod
plans to write a book about each of the seven journeys.
