Melbourne - Parliament house
Parliament house was an interesting visit, seeing the place where lots of descions are made.

Melbourne was rich with gold during the mining days. Did you know that all the gold you can see is 22 carat gold leaf. In many parts it’s double layered because the only way to mend it was to apply a second coating.
.
.
Parliament House was built in stages. It began in 1856 with the Legislative Chambers. The work was completed in an astonishing ten months in time for Victoria’s first Parliament to meet there.
.
.
Did you know that the 27th prime minister of Australia Julia Gillard was Born in Barry South Wales!

Excellente Visite guidée, par M. Patrick BORIBON.
The Parliament of Victoria is a bicameral legislature (two Houses) with representatives elected to either the Legislative Council (the Upper House) or the Legislative Assembly (the Lower House). The Assembly has 88 Members and the Council has 40 Members. The Governor of Victoria represents the Crown and is the third arm of Parliament.
Following the Westminster tradition, the party having the support of the majority of Members in the Lower House has the right to form Government. The Government is then answerable to Parliament. This is called 'responsible government' because the Government is responsible to Parliament and must present its policies for parliamentary scrutiny...

==================
Parliament House is the meeting place of the Parliament of Victoria, one of the parliaments of the Australian states and territories.
Located on Spring Street on the edge of the Hoddle Grid, the grand colonnaded front dominates the vista up Bourke Street. Construction began in 1855, and the first stage was officially opened the following year, with various sections completed over the following decades; it has never been completed, and the planned dome is one of the most well known unbuilt features of Melbourne. Between 1901 and 1927, it served as the meeting place of the Parliament of Australia, during the period when Melbourne was the temporary national capital. The building is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. (Wiki)
The federal years at Victoria's Parliament House
For its first 26 years, Australia’s federal parliament met in Victoria’s Parliament House before moving to Canberra. To recognise the 90th anniversary of the national parliament’s last sitting in Melbourne, Associate Professor Paul Strangio from Monash University presented a public lecture about those pioneering years on Spring Street. The lecture was held in conjunction with an exhibition called ‘Something Borrowed’.
