Helsinki residents reacted on Monday to the tight results of the Finnish general elections, where the top three parties all received less than 20 percent of the vote.
For the first time in 20 years the front runners are the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SDP), who came out on top with 17.7 per cent of the vote, securing 40 seats in the 200-seat parliament.
The SDP narrowly beat the nationalist Finns Party, who received 17.5 per cent of the votes and 39 seats. The Centre Party of incumbent Prime Minister Juha Sipila got only 13.8 per cent of votes, while his coalition partners in the National Coalition Party came in third, with 38 seats.
Following the tight result, Finns had mixed feelings, I would say I'm a bit confused because the Social Democrats didn't get the results I was expecting, said Jyrki, adding that, the Perussuomalaiset [Finns Party], the populists, I think their performance, that was a surprise.
Another local expressed his concern over the formation of the future government saying that It's going to be really difficult because instead of one big party or one big majority block, we have four to five middle-sized parties each under 20 percent, so I think it's going to be difficult.

The Democratic Way 11: The Parliament House

Along the way viewers can learn more about places, buildings and statues illustrating the continuity of regular legislative work in Finland since 1863.
The films were produced by Parliament of Finland in cooperation with the University of Helsinki and Arcada University of Applied Sciences.

Meet Sanna Marin, world's youngest prime minister from Finland
A Finnish politician is set to become the world's youngest sitting prime minister.
Sanna Marin, Finland's 34-year-old transportation minister, will also become the country's youngest ever prime minister when she is sworn in tomorrow.
On Sunday, Marin narrowly won a vote among Social Democrat lawmakers and replaces outgoing Prime Minister Antti Rinne, who resigned on Tuesday after coalition partner the Centre Party said it had lost confidence in him over his handling of a postal workers' strike.
The prime minister-elect told reporters that she has a lot of work ahead to rebuild trust,.
Marin rose through the ranks after leading the city council of her industrial hometown Tampere when she was 27.
The five major parties in Finland's parliament are now all led by women.
Last week, Marin was at the EU institutions in Brussels for a meeting of EU Transport ministers.

'There's no trick': Finland's Sanna Marin youngest PM in world
The Social Democrat leader, 34, was last week sworn in as prime minister for Finland to head a coalition government – in which four out of five coalition leaders are women under 35. Marin is the youngest serving prime minister in the world, ahead of New Zealand’s Jacinda Ardern, 39, and the Ukrainian leader Oleksiy Honcharuk, 35.

Finland's young PM promises stability, and to keep posting on Instagram
Social Democrat Sanna Marin said on Tuesday she would restore stability to Finland and keep using social media - but with care - after being sworn in as the world's youngest prime minister at the helm of a government led by women.
Marin, 34, won a confidence vote in parliament, with 99 in favour and 70 against, and will head a coalition government in which four of the five parties are led by women and 12 of the 19 members of the new cabinet are women.

Prime minister of Finland appointed. Following approval by the country's Parliament and official appointment by Finnish President Tarja Halonen, Mari Kiviniemi became Finland's new premiere on Tuesday, June 22. Ms. Kiviniemi has been a member of Parliament since 1996 as well as Minister of Public Administration and Local Government since 2007. Speaking on Wednesday in her first speech to Parliament, the new prime minister highlighted goals of growth while maintaining stability for both the economy and the country.
