he name Delphoi comes from the same root as delphys, womb and may indicate archaic veneration of Gaia, Grandmother Earth, and the Earth Goddess at the site. Apollo is connected with the site by his epithet Delphinios, the Delphinian. The epithet is connected with dolphins in the Homeric Hymn to Apollo , recounting the legend of how Apollo first came to Delphi in the shape of a dolphin, carrying Cretan priests on his back. The Homeric name of the oracle is Pytho.
In Greek mythology, Delphi was the site of the Delphic oracle, the most important oracle in the classical Greek world, and a major site for the worship of the god Apollo after he slew the Python, a dragon who lived there and protected the navel of the Earth. Apollo's sacred precinct in Delphi was a panhellenic sanctuary, where every four years, starting in 776 BC athletes from all over the Greek world competed in the Pythian Games, precursors of the Modern Olympics.

Delphi was an important ancient Greek religious sanctuary sacred to the god Apollo. Located on Mt. Parnassus near the Gulf of Corinth, the sanctuary was home to the famous oracle of Apollo which gave cryptic predictions and guidance to both city-states and individuals. In addition, Delphi was also home to the panhellenic Pythian Games.
Day Trip to Delphi by Car | Delphi, Greece
On the third day of our Greek road trip, we drove to Delphi from Meteora for a day trip before heading back to Athens. We were a little pressed for time, so we only got to see the ancient city of Delphi and not much else, but we couldn't resist stopping in this cute little city to learn the truth about the Oracle of Delphi and her famed prophecies. Turns out, that legend is just a bunch of smoke!
Regardless, we really enjoyed ourselves at Delphi. It was a sweltering hot day, but we came early at 8am sharp to beat the crowds, and managed to explore the archaeological site of Delphi at our leisure before the masses of tourists came.

It takes about four hours by car from Athens to arrive at Delphi. Located on the hillside of the Parnassus mountain, Delphi is the most special place in the world that received trust when deciding important matters in ancient Greece. Currently, there are only seven pillars left here. It is a place made by the Athenians who won the war against the Persians to store their loot. The memorial remains of the time. Do you know what I mean? It's about an emperor. And his son's story. Caucasus Dios, the son of King Cassius, had to engrave this stone in the past in order to record it. There are also there. The name of the post and the praise of King Cassius is left.

DELPHI -mountain Parnassus
Delphi / Pytho ancient in of Mount Parnassus in Greece, Temple of Apollo, Amphictyonic Council
Delphi / Pytho ancient in south-western slope of Mount Parnassus. Includes the Sanctuary of Apollo (the god of light, knowledge and harmony). The site of the ancient Oracle, Zeus determined the site of Delphi when he sought to find the centre of his Grandmother Earth (Gaia).
He sent two eagles flying from the eastern and western extremities, and the path of the eagles crossed over Delphi where the omphalos, or navel of Gaia was found.
Delphi was since ancient times a place of worship for Gaia, the mother goddess connected with fertility. The town started to gain pan-Hellenic relevance as both a shrine and an oracle in the 7th century BC. Initially under the control of Phocaean settlers based in nearby Kirra (currently Itea), Delphi was reclaimed by the Athenians during the First Sacred War (597–585 BC). The conflict resulted in the consolidation of the Amphictyonic League, which had both a military and a religious function revolving around the protection of the Temple of Apollo.
Delphi - Greece
Delphi (Greek Δελφοί, [ðe̞lˈfi]) is an archaeological site and a modern town in Greece on the south-western spur of Mount Parnassus in the valley of Phocis. Delphi was the site of the Delphic oracle, the most important oracle in the classical Greek world, and it was a major site for the worship of the god Apollo. His sacred precinct in Delphi was a Panhellenic sanctuary, where every four years athletes from all over the Greek world competed in the Pythian Games, the precursor to the Olympic Games.
Delphi was revered throughout the Greek world as the site of the omphalos stone, the centre of the earth and the universe. In the inner hestia (hearth) of the Temple of Apollo, an eternal flame burned. After the battle of Plataea, the Greek cities extinguished their fires and brought new fire from the hearth of Greece, at Delphi; in the foundation stories of several Greek colonies, the founding colonists were first dedicated at Delphi.Delphi site is located in lower central Greece, on multiple plateau/terraces along the slope of Mount Parnassus, and includes the Sanctuary of Apollo, the site of the ancient Oracle. This semicircular spur is known as Phaedriades, and overlooks the Pleistos Valley. Southwest of Delphi, about 15 km (9.5 mi) away, is the harbor-city of Kirrha on the Corinthian Gulf.

Mount Parnassus 13,000-ft. Peak
We ventured off the Herman Lake Trail to the less traveled Watrous Gulch trail. Our destination: Mount Parnassus, a 13,000-ft. peak just east of Woods Peak which we had previously climbed. We reaped the rewards of this strenuous climb with fantastic panoramic vistas. We ascended the peak via Bard Trail which branches off from the Watrous trail and we descended back into the Watrous valley.

Sharing video highlights/slight vlog-ish of our Delphi, Greee Trip (late upload).
Some observations/highlights during this Delphi, Greece trip:
1. Brief background - Delphi is a town on Mount Parnassus in the south of mainland Greece. It's the site of the 4th-century-B.C. Temple of Apollo, once home to a legendary oracle. The Greeks considered Delphi the navel (or centre) of the world.
2. Travel time - From Athens it would take 2.5 hours going to Delphi. Its a whole day tour. Totally worth the price.
3. Price - We booked for a Delphi tour (its more convenient) - SG$120. (via klook). Food not included.
4. Inclusion in tour - The tour includes Delphi Archeological site and Delphi Museum, including 2 way transport.
5. Other must see place outside Athens - Given the chance i’ll also do the Meteora Day Trip (lots of good reviews).
6. Observation – similar to Athens, you will see lots of columns and other ancient archeological structures, but this one is a bit different, coz you will see the breathtaking view of the mountains, I initially thought its similar to Machu Picchu based on the photos (but its different). The museum is also great, and the tour guide – she was really cool. This is a more relaxed way to travel considering the convenience of the tour guide/transport.
