The museum is not so far from the Parola Train Station, ask local the direction to walk to there, it take around 25 mins walk. A very good local drove me there from a village near by the Parola Train Station, local people are friendly and helpful.
I enjoy my half day visit there but it was too cold in November.

The T-34 had well-sloped armour, a relatively powerful engine and wide tracks. The initial T-34 version had a powerful 76.2 mm gun, and is often called the T-34/76.
Finnish use: Seven tanks were taken to Finnish use during Continuation War. First T-34/76 was taken to Finnish use in October of 1941. The last of these tanks remained in Finnish use until year 1961. The tanks were both captured in combat and brought from Germany.
Year 1941 grand majority of Soviet tanks in Finnish - Soviet front was still older tanks with very few T-34 among them. Apparently troops of 2nd Army Corps were the first to fight to against T-34 tanks in Finnish front, they destroyed two T-34 tanks in August of 1941 in Carelian Isthmus - first near Ojajärvi train station and second one in road between villages Kaukola and Räisälä. Just like the third T-34 captured in Carelian Isthmus these two tanks were damaged beyond repair. First T-34 tank that Finnish troops took to their own use was captured 2nd of October 1941 near Syväri / Svir power plant, where at that day T-34 apparently made its first appearance en mass in Finnish - Soviet front.
Finnish estimates and experiences:
Early Finnish estimate of T-34 tank: Armour quite adequate, diesel-engine works reliably even in winter, speed quite adequate - apparently the tank has a good off-road mobility. Our troops have succeeded destroying these tanks with satchel charges thrown to rear deck. Tank crew has poor visibility outside, tank tracks can be broken with satchel charges, antitank-mines or with 37-mm antitank-guns. 45-mm antitank-gun can penetrate lower side hull armour between road-wheels or if the tank is tilted suitably (turning sloped side hull armour into vertical position) it can penetrate also higher side armour.
Finnish tank crews found T-34/76 to obviously be a massive improvement over earlier tanks like T-26E and captured Soviet T-26. Not only was its 76-mm tank gun much more effective and armour protection useful against Soviet antitank-weapons, but thanks to wide tracks, powerful diesel engine and showed good mobility in typical Finnish terrain and also deep snow. Unlike with light tanks even individual tree or two were no real obstacle, since T-34 was found capable knocking down trees less than 80-cm thick. Since the number of captured T-34 tanks taken to Finnish use remained always very limited, it seems likely that most capable crews were handpicked for them.
Model T-34 Model 1940
Weight 26 t (29 tons)
Gun 76.2 mm L-11
Ammunition 76 rounds
Fuel (internal) 460 L
Road range 160–250 km (99–155 mi)
Armour 15–45 mm (0.59–1.77 in)
The Finnish Supreme headquarters ordered the foundation of an armoured division on 28 June 1942 and the actual foundation was on 30 June 1942. The division consisted of the newly formed Armoured Brigade and the old (1st) Jaeger Brigade. The Cavalry Brigade was also part of the division until January 1943. The division artillery consisted of the 14th Heavy Artillery Battalion. The division commander was Major General Ruben Lagus. During most of the war, the division was located at Petrozavodsk, but in the spring of 1944 it was moved to the Karelian Isthmus to form the reserve of the headquarters.
The Armoured Division fought in the crucial battles of 1944 and helped to contain the Soviet offensive.

Sturmgeschütz 40 assault gun standing guard at the E3 road at Hattula, Parola, Finland, very near the Finnish Armour Museum and the Armour Brigade. The World War II era Stug III assault gun, lovingly called Sturmi by the Finns, was revealed to guard the safety of the passers by at Parola/Hattula, Finland. The assault gun is in post war Finnish markings and colours.
This very tank participated in the most crucial counterattack of the Finnish wars as the command tank of Ltn. Talvitie's unit. The Stugs blunted the Soviet armored spearhead and reported 40 Soviet tanks destroyed after first two days of fighting.

Ylen uutisista lainattu:
Parolan moottoritieliittymä Hattulassa on saanut lisää näyttävää asekalustoa. Liittymää ennestään vartioinut Leopard-panssarivaunu sai vierelleen Sturm-rynnäkötykin. Sturmilla juhlistetaan panssaridivisioonan 75-vuotispäivää. Panssaridivisioona perustettiin Aänislinnassa 28.6.1942. Hautalan mielestä Sturm-vaunu on panssarijoukkojen historian helmi. Se oli yksi panssaridivisioonan tulivoimaisimmista aseista jatkosodan aikana.
The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) assault gun was Germany's second most-produced armoured fighting vehicle during World War II after the Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track. It was built on the chassis of the proven Panzer III tank, replacing the turret with an armored, fixed superstructure mounting a more powerful gun. Initially intended as a mobile assault gun for direct-fire support for infantry, the StuG III was continually modified, and much like the later Jagdpanzer, was employed as a tank destroyer.
In 1943 Finland bought 30 Sturmgeschütz 40 G -assault guns from Germany. The first batch of 10 arrived in Finland on July 6th 1943, the next batch of 8 on August 10th 1943 and the last batch of 12 on September 3rd 1943. Four of the 1943 batch StuG's were delivered directly to Asevarikko 6 (Gun depot number 6) in Jyväskylä to be stored as reserve-vehicles. On delivery the StuG's were painted all German Dark Yellow with German markings.
The 1943 -batch StuG's were early production (but not the initial) G models with the square gun-mantlet, rubber-tyred return rollers, drive-sprockets with the hubcaps, the loader's MG-shield, the loader's hatch opening up to the front and to the back, rotating periscope-ring on the commander's cupola and early type fendersupports (of two kinds; the plain pipe beeing from Alkett and the pipe with triangular support beeing from MIAG).
In 1944 Finland bought another 29 Sturmgeschütz III1) G's from Germany. The first batch of 5 arrived in Finland on June 29th 1944, the next batch of 7 on July 2nd 1944, the next batch of 3 on July 6th 1944, the next batch of 6 on August 3rd 1944 and the last batch of 8 on August 6th 1944.
The 1944 batch StuG's were late middle / early late production G models with the Topfblende / Saukopf gun-mantle, all-steel return rollers (Alkett and MIAG), drive-sprockets with the wheel-bolts showing, loaders hatches opening to the sides, deflecting armour for the commander's cupola, solid (non-rotating) periscope-ring on the commander's cupola, late type fendersupports, typical German rear deck stovage-racks and Zimmerit.
The Stugs formed an elite force of Finnish armour, supported by specially trained infantry. The Stugs were the only modern armour Finland had by 1943-1944 and they, along other Finnish armoured forces including captured T-34s and T-26s (!), fought in several decisive battles in 1944, helping to stem the Soviet tide.
The Stugs themselves destroyer 87 Soviet tanks, losing 8 of their number. Small numbers compared to the rest of the world war, but those numbers were decisive in the Finnish narrative.

T-72 in Finnish service, short version:
Some 160-170 T-72M1s served in the Finnish Army. About 70 T-72M1s (one armoured brigade) were bought from the Soviet Union and were delivered in 1984, 1985–1988 and 1990. A further 97 T-72M1s (including a small number of command versions T-72M1K and T-72M1K1) were bought from German surplus stocks in 1992–1994. All tanks are now withdrawn from service and almost all have been scrapped in Jyväskylä or sold as spares to the Czech Republic.
The tank:
The T-72 is a Soviet second-generation main battle tank that entered production in 1971. About 20,000 T-72 tanks were built, making it one of the most widely produced post–World War II tanks, second only to the T-54/55 family. The T-72 was widely exported and saw service in 40 countries and in numerous conflicts.
The T-72 was the most common tank used by the Warsaw Pact from the 1970s until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. It was also exported to other countries. Licensed versions of the T-72 were made in Poland and Czechoslovakia, for Warsaw Pact consumers. These tanks had better and more consistent quality of make but with inferior armour, lacking the resin-embedded ceramics layer inside the turret front and glacis armour, replaced with all steel.
History in Finland:
During the 60's and 70's the Finnish land force's fist was one the Armored Brigade, which main battle tanks were T-54's and T-55's delivered from 1959 to 1972. During 1975-1977, The parliaments defense commitee proposed the renovation of armored equipment. The next committee left its memo in 1981, which suggested acquiring armor from the USSR, utilizing possible bilateral trade.
In December 1979 a delegation was sent to examine the T-72, first in theory at Malinovski armor academy and in practice at Vystrel. Memos from both trips review the T-72 very suitable for the FDF's usage, and to be a vast improvement in contrast to the T-55, but it was also considered to demand more service due its complexity. The buying process was initially started, but during may 1983 the Soviet counterpart notified for the Finns surprise that more modern, T-72M and T-72MK-tanks would be available. Later the acquisition refined to apply T-72M1 and T-72M1K's.
The first 15 T-72M1's and T-72M1K's of the order of 60 tanks, crossed to border on a railbed 13.12.1984 and were transfered to Siikakangas depot for acceptance and modifications. The new vehicles and its systems were put on several tests during 1985 in order to examine and clarify its features and performances. The tanks were localized with Finnish light package for road usage, Finnish plates in instruments, fire extinguisher and such minor things. The first batch on tanks, 3 T-72M1's and one T-72M1K was delivered from depot to the Armored Brigade in May, where they were used in public presentation and in additional training for the brigade staff.
The experiences with the T-72M1 in the FDF were mixed in their nature, when compared to our other tank at the time, the T-55M. The tactical mobility of the T-72 superior, but it suffered from its slow reverse speed in typical fire position action. It had less daily maintenance subjects and adjustments than the T-55, but the final drives in the sprockets was noticed to wear prematurely. 2E28M stabilizer, the autoloader and the sighting complex TPD-K1 suffered from small defects and malfunctions thru the lifespan. The ammunition provided to the T-72M1 was outdated, especially the 3BM15 APFSDS lacked performance. As for Fire Control Systems, the differences were such big in favor of the T-55M that it not a huge wrong to declare that the T-72M1 did not have one.
