Partington Cove Hike in Big Sur
Partington Cove is a short hike along Highway 1 in Big Sur. It is a favorite of mine because it has beautiful coastal views and a historic tunnel. It is only about a mile and a half round trip and has 200 feet of elevation gain.

Big Sur In 24 Hours
A great day driving the Big Sur Coast. Stops included several day hikes, a restaurant, and a beautiful hotel at the end of the coast.
1. Keyhole Arch (Pfieffer Beach)
2. Nepenthe Restaurant
3. Partington Cove Hike
4. McWay Falls Hike
5. Limekiln State Park (Waterfall Trail)
6. Ragged Point Inn
7. Hearst Castle
We started our drive of the coast at Carmel By The Sea California. From our hotel, we hit the road at 9AM to Bixby Bridge. After a quick stop at the iconic bridge, we made our way down the winding road to Pfieffer Beach to catch a glimpse of Keyhole Arch. This is a must-do while in Big Sur, and easily worth the $10 dollar entry.
From here we made our way to Nepenthe Restaurant for lunch. It's conveniently located a little ways down the road from Pfieffer Beach. We arrived right on time when they opened at 11:30AM. Which ended up working out since the place developed a hour wait by the time we were done with our meal. This place is another MUST. Food is pricey but awesome, and it has the best lunch view on the entire coast.
After lunch we stopped at Partington Cove for a great hike. A little up and down here, but nothing too strenuous. No signage for the trail, so have GPS marked and ready to find the trailhead.
Our next two stops were McWay Falls, which was short but gorgeous. $10 dollars to park in the parking area (free if you park on the road). Then Limekiln State Park (Waterfall Trail), which was such a refreshing change of pace. Large redwoods, up close waterfalls, and less people made this a area I would return to.
We then made our way to the Ragged Point Inn conveniently located towards the end of Big Sur so we could make our early trip to San Simeon to visit Hearst Castle in the morning. This Ragged Point Inn was such a gem. Absolutely stunning views, on site restaurant (Breakfast, lunch, dinner), giftshop, and gas station. If I had one recommendation, I would say to make this hotel your lodging for either the beginning or end of your trip (depending on which direction you are heading on the coast). This spot was so amazing.
This itinerary was definitely packed but doable for anyone, and doesn't completely destroy your stamina. It was the perfect amount to feel like we really experienced big sur in the 24 hours we had.
Big Sur: 8 Things to do on a Highway 1 Road Trip
Big Sur is one of the most amazing places in California and one of the most spectacular coastlines in the United States. I always love getting the chance to explore it and with summer right around the corner, I figured people would be planning their own Big Sur road trip and so I wanted to share a few of my favorite spots.

Big Sur Bouldering - Partington Cove
Partington Cove can be found about 2 hours drive south from Santa Cruz. It is also called little Yosemite because the granite quality almost match the one from Camp 4.
The timing could not be better since Castle Rock is still too warm, buggy and crowded.
Brian Wilkerson, Rob Morris and myself climbed some of the moderate climbs, some being as tall as 15 feet. Make sure that you bring a bunch of pads when you visit that area.

Pine Ridge Trail To Sykes Hot Springs Big Sur, CA
We backpacked Big Sur, CA from Friday afternoon to Monday and had a great time. Perfect weather and great food is some of what we enjoyed. This is the Pine Ridge trail that starts at the end of the parking lot. We hiked in the 1st night to Terrace Creek Camp. Day hiked to Barlow Flat camp and decided we liked that one better. We came back to Terrace Creek and packed up our things and went to Barlow. Next day was to hike to Sykes Hot Springs and take a soak. We were very lucky as there wasn't anyone there when we got there. Not usually the case as it's usually packed. Especially on a weekend. We hiked back in the late afternoon and then hiked out and drove home on Monday. It was such a nice trip. Non itinerary based and relaxing. I would highly recommend the Pine Ridge trail to anyone looking for a challenging trail with great rewards. You could squeeze this into a 1or night trip but to spread it out made this trip much more enjoyable.

Beautiful Trail Hiking: Big Sur State Park (Unreal Views!)
Weekend trip through Big Sur Andrew Molera and Limekiln State Park on 8/3/18 - 8/5/18. Crazy beautiful Highway 1 in California does not disappoint with views around every corner. Hiked Mcway falls in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park Cruikshank trail near Limekiln (one of the best unknown hikes ive ever done) and Bluff trail near Big Sur. A place I am hopeful to return to and camp at some point.

EXPLORE: Big Sur, CA // The Trail Diaries
We went on a family camping trip to Big Sur and went to some of the well known tourist sites such as, McWay Falls and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park (not to get it confused with Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, but we also went there too). This place has Instagram worthy locations. We plan to revisit this place next year because we didn't film much as we thought we would.

Backpacking Hwy 1 to Cone Peak near Big Sur
We backpacked the Lollipop loop clockwise from Hwy 1 to Cone Peak in three days over Memorial Day weekend. There were plenty of streams to filter water from! BUT poison oak was everywhere!! It was usually on one side of the trail but there were a few spots where it was on both sides of the trail, making it inevitable to not touch. We used Tecnu on our hands and arms each evening and did not end up reacting to the poison oak! Feel free to ask any questions you have about this backpacking loop :)
➔ Day 1: Parked across from Kirk Creek Campground near the trailhead and hiked through Vicante Flat Campground and up to Goat Camp to camp there for the night (~12 miles). There was a waterfall right before you get to Goat Camp to filter water.
➔ Day 2: Hiked from Goat Camp up to Cone Peak and back down to Vicante Flat Campground and spent the night there (~10 miles).
➔ Day 3: Hiked from Vicante Flat Campground back to the trailhead along Hwy 1 (~5 miles).

Footage from a secret scuba diving spot we named Decapod Maze in the Big Sur Coast. Because its a very exposed spot, there is a definite surge even on the calmest of conditions, which gives the kelp a very beautiful display.
