Pasochoa, 4200m, Volcano Summit Climb ECUADOR
Hiking tour to Pasochoa Mountain.
Pasochoa is a beautiful, 4199 meters (13776 ft) high mountain. The trek is an excellent acclimatization climb which can be used to prepare for more challenging mountains such as Cotopaxi and Chimborazo. The highlight of the Pasochoa trek is its humid cloud forest, situated inside an extinct volcanic crater near Quito. We find over one hundred species of bird and 50 species of original Andean trees. It provides a wonderful day trip. The trek is relatively gentle, going through amazing Páramo grasslands and cloud forests which boast of stunning Andean wildlife, including bulls, horses, hummingbirds, the viridian metal tail, mountain tanagers, red crested cotinga and the occasional andean condor. Extreme Ecuador: Culture and Climb (June 2009)
A varied group of seven individual high-altitude climbers from across the United States - wonderfully guided by Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. - gathered in Ecuador for one extraordinary week of climbing and culture in June 2009. They would come to refer to themselves as Team Gringos Con Gas. Here is a brief glimpse of their adventures: from the Pasochoa Forest Reserve (12,600 ft elev) to Illiniza Norte (16,000 ft elev) - to eventually Cotopaxi (19,348 ft elev) and Cayambe (18,998 ft elev). Cotopaxi National Park, Ecuador
On the trip until now the guide told us about both Ecuador, Quito and the volcanoes and their origin. Immediately after we had driven into the national park, the road to a dirt road (lava gravel). We made a stop at a small local cafe where we got a hot tea brewed on coca leaf (containing cocaine?) and added a lot of sugar, which would make it easier for us to stay in the thin oxygen-depleted air here nearly 4000 m above sea level.
We continued through the national park and stopped at a lake formed by meltwater from snow-covered volcano . Here we went around the lake about 2.6 km . We could feel the thin air , but felt no more discomfort than we were a little out of breath.
Cotopaxi Volcano
Cotopaxi is a stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains, located about 28 km south of Quito. With a height of 5,897 m, it is the second highest mountain in Ecuador and it is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world.
Cotopaxi is one of the few volcanoes covered by snow making it extra dangerous when erupting.
Since 1738, the Cotopaxi erupted more than 50 times, which has resulted in numerous valleys formed by mudslides around the volcano.

- After visiting the equator, we also got to see a shrunken head (find out the size of your shrunken head by looking at your fist), and then visited a crater called Pululahua Crater
- The hostel had organised trips to the equator and neighbouring volcano ( Pululahua ) for around $30 each but we thought we could do it on the cheap and take a bus there by ourselves
- After this we took a short hike up round the crater rim of Pululahua, and through the clouds you could see the huge crater floor formed around 2500 years ago when the volcano cone collapsed to form

Experience and climb Illinizas with Gulliver Expeditions - Best tours in Ecuador
The Ilinizas are two peaks located 55km Southwest of Quito. Iliniza Sur (5250m) is famous for being the sixth highest mountain in the country whilst Iliniza Norte (5126m) is the eighth highest.
Prehistorically, they were one volcano but today the two peaks are separated by a saddle of about 1km in width. Both peaks offer some of the more enjoyable climbing in Ecuador. For the exprience hiker or soft climber, the North peak is a truly fun climb with some heart- stopping scrambles thrown in.It offers great opportunity to observe volcanic crater, paramo and the whole valley of the volcanoes. Waterfall Trekking & Horseback Riding - Cotopaxi, Ecuador
My friends and I spent the weekend in the Cotopaxi Province of Ecuador. It is home to the Cotopaxi volcano, which is the second highest summit in the country. We stayed at the gorgeous Secret Garden hostel, which had a guide take us trekking in the forest and along the streams to waterfalls. We also went horseback riding for six hours up to the top of a mountain for a closer look at the volcano.

Quito
Quito (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈkito]), formally San Francisco de Quito, is the capital city of Ecuador, and at an elevation of 9,350 feet (2,800 meters above sea level), it is the highest official capital city in the world. (La Paz, the de facto capital of Bolivia, is higher.) It is located in north-central Ecuador in the Guayllabamba river basin, on the eastern slopes of Pichincha, an active stratovolcano in the Andes mountains. With a population of 2,671,191 according to the last census (2014), Quito is the second most populous city in Ecuador, after Guayaquil. It is also the capital of the Pichincha province and the seat of the Metropolitan District of Quito. The canton recorded a population of 2,239,191 residents in the 2010 national census. In 2008, the city was designated as the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations.
The historic center of Quito has one of the largest, least-altered and best-preserved historic centers in the Americas. Quito, along with Kraków, were the first World Cultural Heritage Sites declared by UNESCO in 1978. The central square of Quito is located about 25 kilometres (16 mi) south of the equator; the city itself extends to within about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) of zero latitude. A monument and museum marking the general location of the equator is known locally as la mitad del mundo (the middle of the world), to avoid confusion, as the word ecuador is Spanish for equator.
