Patchwork Pâté
- Patchwork was established in 1982 by Margaret Carter, a talented, although untrained, home cook, who found herself divorced with three children to look after.
With a start up cost of just £9.00, saved from the housekeeping, she began selling her home made pâtés to pubs in nearby Llangollen. As Margaret attracted more and more customers and the business successfully started to expand she moved the business from her house in 1987 to a purpose-equipped factory in the heart of Ruthin.
Despite the commercial scale today, everything is still hand-made in small batches, without artificial colouring, additives or preservatives, to Margarets original recipes. We have won over 80 taste awards
We still cook our pate in small batches like we did 27 years ago
We use over 25 different types of alcohol in our range
We have NEVER used artificial additivies, preservatives or colourings
Our products have NO hydrogenated fats

The Promise
How it all began
The Promise
(inspired by our times)
The sculpture that inspired The Promise was first created in 1977 by Neil Dalrymple. It depicted a man imprisoned in a rock by an enchantment or a spell, with another man above trying to release him.
Not long after Neil created it, it was picked up by the Kyle Gallery, located in Victoria, B.C. Canada and subsequently sold to one of their clients.
Twenty-nine years later an American named James Rabiola, an advertising excecutive from Chicago, came to live in North Wales where he met Neil at his studio in Ruthin. It wasnt very long after the initial meeting that James approached Neil with the idea of representing him in the American market.
Three years later James not only was representing Neil, but they became friends. One evening in January 2009 James sat sifting through old photos of Neils work and came across a picture of the sculpture that Neil had created all those years ago. He was immediately inspired. It was then the idea was borne to make the man at the top of the sculpture multi-racial, with one side of his face caucasion and the other, a man of colour. To further strengthen the message, the man of colour is breaking the caucasian man free from one side of the rock, whilst the caucasion man is releasing the man of colour from the other side; from past beliefs, prejudicies and boundaries that have kept man from creating a brighter future.
The message of course, is interpretive, others may see it differently. However it is seen, The Promise guarantees to inspire and to make one think.
Being aware of the state of the world today with the economic downturn, bank failures, job losses, etc. we feel The Promise symbolizes what must be done by all people, of all nations to build a better tomorrow.
