STORYLINE
Israel has released a female Palestinian prisoner and sent her to the Gaza Strip as part of a compromise deal that persuaded her to end her 43-day hunger strike.
Hana Shalabi, a 30-year-old Islamic Jihad supporter from the West Bank, was on Sunday escorted through the Erez crossing by Israeli police, and entered the Gaza Strip.
Under the terms of her release, she must remain in the seaside strip for the next three years.
Shalabi went on hunger strike to protest against Israel's policy of administrative detention, under which it can hold Palestinian prisoners for months - even years - without charge.
She launched the strike after being placed in administrative detention on February 16.
She ended the strike on Thursday and her doctors said she lost 14 kilograms (31 pounds) during the strike.
Her release is another blow for Palestinians protesting against Israel's military policy of administrative detention.
Shalabi's sister blasted the move by the Israelis, saying they put her sister Hana under enormous mental pressure.
It was very hard for her, they used her medical condition as she was on a hunger strike, and she was under this continuous pressure. We reject this agreement, it should have been agreed with us, said Zahra Shalabi, speaking from their home in the Jenin refugee camp.
Jenin is in the West Bank, which lies on the opposite side of Israel from Gaza.
The move was also criticised by Islamic Jihad leader Khader Habib in Gaza City.
We, at the Islamic Jihad movement, will receive the freed prisoner Hana Shalabi in Gaza Strip, but we are rejecting the Israeli policy of deportation and we consider it a war crime against the Palestinians, Habib said.
Last month Palestinian detainee Khader Adnan won release after 66 days without food.
Israel is currently holding about 300 administrative detainees.
