Belur Paathaaleshwara temple is originally named as Veereshwara. Later Veereshwara temple was renamed as Pathaleshwara temple . The Paathaaleshwara temple is believed to be built in the twelfth or thirteenth century during the Hoysala regime, based on the style of architecture and its sculpture. The basement of the temple appared as though it had sprouted from the earth’s surface. That was probably the reason for the temple being known as Pataleshwara temple.
The Paathaaleshwara temple was not attracting any visitors for several years as it was covered by weeds and shrubs. Except the residents of Belur, outsiders were not aware of such a temple existing there. Veerendra Heggade of the Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Devasthana Trust in Nov 2014 inaugurated the centuries-old Sri Veereshwara temple, also known as Pataleshwara temple, at Belur. The trust had taken up the renovation of the ancient temple, keeping the aesthetical value and salient features of the Hoysala structure intact.
The temple was restored at a cost of Rs. 30 lakh. The team of researchers also stumbled upon the interesting fact about the linga. When the idol was removed after offering related ritual as part of the temple’s restoration, it was found that the linga is further tall, in contrast to the temple constructed during Hoysala period. The linga of Hoysala period is usually one to two feet tall, and the idol here is up to four-and-a-half feet.

Belur Chennakeshava, temples of Karnataka. The Chennakeshava Temple, also referred to as Keshava, Kesava or Vijayanarayana Temple of Belur, is a 12th-century Hindu temple in the Hassan district of Karnataka state, India. Belur temple was commissioned by King Vishnuvardhana in 1117 CE, on the banks of the Yagachi River in Belur also called Velapura, an early Hoysala Empire capital. Belur temple was built over three generations and took 103 years to finish. Belur temple artwork depicts scenes of secular life in the 12th century, dancers and musicians, as well as a pictorial narration of Hindu texts such as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Puranas. Belur temple is considered to be one of the earliest creations of Hoysala dynasty. At its highest, Belur temple stands 37 metres tall. Its outer walls are adorned with finely done artwork, with dancing girls in various postures.

On the left of Belur Chennakeshava temple, one can find the Ranganayaki temple. The Gravity Pillar-The decline of the Hoysalas saw the emergence of the rulers of Vijayanagara. The reign of King Devaraya saw his commander Bice Dandanayaka install the unique 42 feet tall lamp post, the Karthika Deepotsava Stambha. This pillar is a testament to the architectural expertise during King Devaraya’s reign, with the post simply placed over a flat platform. It appears to be standing on its own dead weight, and has astounded visitors for ages. The doorways of the temple’s mantapa features a Hoysala king slaying what historians believe is either a tiger or lion. It is also believed that this could be a symbolic representation of the defeat of the Cholas, whose royal emblem is a tiger.
The Hoysala period of South Indian history began about 1000 CE and continued through 1346 CE. In this period, they built around 1,500 temples in 958 centres. The city was so esteemed by the Hoysalas that it is referred to as earthly Vaikuntha (Vishnu's abode) and dakshina Varanasi (southern holy city of Hindus) in later inscriptions.
It is 35 km from Hassan city and about 200 km from Bengaluru, 155 kms from Mysore and 153 kms from Mangalore .

It is located a short distance away from the famous Hoysaleswara Temple. The temple was constructed by Hoysala King Veera Ballala II (1173–1220 A.D.) and his Queen Ketaladevi, and the main deity is Ishwara (another name for the Hindu god Shiva). The temple is a protected monument, of national importance under the Archaeological Survey of India. Kedareshwara temple, is dedicated to Shiva in the form of Kedareshwara.
The temple was constructed with Soap stone. The temple has four Star shaped pillars on either side of entrance. The Navaranga has four bell shaped pillars. The ceiling of the Navaranga Mantapa is well decorated. The outlay of the main shrine is star shaped (stellate) with two smaller shrines that have perforated windows (called Jali, literally, sieve) on the sides. the Hoysala architects created repetitive decorative sculptures and reliefs called architectural articulation. Since the temple has three shrines, it qualifies as a trikutachala, a three shrined structure.

Doddagaddavalli Lakshmi temple Hassan Tourism Ancient Hindu temples of Karnataka tourism
Doddagaddavalli Lakshmi temple Hassan Tourism Ancient Hindu temples of Karnataka tourism ದೊಡ್ಡಗದ್ದವಳ್ಳಿ. Doddagaddavalli was founded by Kullahana Rahuta, a merchant and his wife Sahaja Devi who got the temple of Mahalakshmi constructed in 1113 AD during the reign of Hoysala Vishnuvardhana (1106-1142 AD). It is the only example of the chatuskuta (four-shrined) order of temples built during the Hoysala period. On plan, the temple has four sanctums in the four directions, each of which is connected by a sukanasi with the common navaranga. Of the four shrines, the east has an image of Lakshmi, the west has a Siva-Linga, the north has an image of Kali and the south one is devoid of any image now. All the towers, except that on the Lakshmi shrine (east) are of simple stepped pyramidal variety of the Kadamba Nagara type. The tower over the Lakshmi shrine is dvitala vimana topped by square sikhara and stone finial. Interestingly, all the four towers accommodate the mahanasa projection crowned by the earliest examples of Hoysala royal emblem of Sala striking a tiger. The entire structure is enclosed by a stone wall having a dwara mandapa with a porch from the south.
The ceiling of the main hall is supported by eighteen lathe-turned pillars. Inside the main hall, there are two sculptures of large demonic living corpses called betala. The main shrine facing east has a 3-foot-tall (0.91 m) image of the goddess Lakshmi with an attendant on either side. The image holds a conch in the upper right hand, a chakra (discuss) in the upper left, a prayer bead in the lower right and a mace in the lower left. In the shrines facing north, south and west respectively are the images of Kali (a form of Durga), the god Vishnu, and Boothanatha Linga (the universal symbol of the god Shiva). A sculpture of Tandaveswara (dancing Shiva) exists in the circular panel at the center of the ceiling of the mantapa. Other important sculptures are those of Gajalakshmi (form of Lakshmi with elephants on either side), Tandaveshwara and Yoganarasimha (avatars of Vishnu) found on the doorway of the temple..
The Lakshmi Devi temple is located in Doddagaddavalli, a village in Hassan District of Karnataka state, India. It is located 16 km from the district capital Hassan and lies on the Hassan city - Belur highway. The Lakshmi Devi temple, was built by the Hoysala Empire King Vishnuvardhana in 1114 C.E.
The Lakshmi Devi Temple is one of the earliest known temples built in the Hoysala style. The building material is Chloritic schist, more commonly known as soapstone.[1] The temple does not stand on a jagati (platform), a feature which became popular in later Hoysala temples. The temple is a unique chatuskuta construction (four shrines and towers built inside a 7-foot-tall (2.1 m) stone wall enclosure with the entrance through a porch whose roof is supported by circular lathe-turned pillars. Three of the vimanas (shrines) have a common square mantapa (hall) with nine bays or compartments. The fourth vimana is connected to the mantapa via an oblong extension consisting of two bays. The extension has two lateral entrances into the temple. All the vimanas have their original tower (superstructure) intact. The towers are in Kadamba nagara style. Each vimana has a vestibule connecting it to the central mantapa. On top of the vestibule is its own tower called sukanasi (or nose because it looks like low extension of the main tower over the shrine). The sukanasi is a tier lower than the main tower over the shrine. All the four sukanasi are intact and so are the kalasha (decorative water pot like structure) on top of the main towers. The Hoysala emblem (the sculpture of a legendary warrior Sala fighting a lion) is mounted atop one of the Sukanasi. Of the four towers, three are undecorated and they look stepped pyramidal with a pile of dented horizontal mouldings with the kalasa on top. The fourth tower is very well decorated (which is typical of Hoysala designs) and this is the tower of the main shrine that houses the Lakshmi Devi image.
The mantapa is open and square. The reason for the square plan is the presence of shrines on all four sides of the mantapa with no side open for staggering. There is a separate fifth shrine of Bhairava, an avatar of the Hindu god Shiva. The shrine is complete with its own vimana and tower with a kalasa on top, a sukanasi with a Hoysala emblem on it. Another unusual feature of the temple is the existence of four more minor shrines at each corner of the temple complex with two sides of each shrine attached to the courtyard wall. Each of these minor shrines has its own tower, kalasa and Hoysala emblem. In all, the temple complex has nine towers which is unusual for a Hoysala temple.

Halebidu Jain Basadi Temple Parshwanath Shantinatha Basadi temple Hassan Tourism Karnataka Tourism
Halebidu Jain Basadi Temple Parshwanath Shantinatha Basadi temple Hassan Tourism Karnataka Tourism
The ancient Jain Basti is dedicated to Shanthinatha and Parshavanatha, which has amazing Hoysala Architecture nurturing Jaina Matha during 11th Century AD. The jain basadi is located near to the famous Hoysaleshwara temple in Halebidu. The three Jain temples in a row are dedicated to Parsvanatha , Adinatha, and Shantinatha tirthankaras.
Shantinath is the 16th and Parshwanath is the 23rd Tirthankara out of the 24 Tirthankaras worshiped in Jain religion. Parshwanathand Shantinath basadi (or temple) is one of the famous ancient temples of
Halebid. The idols of Jain saints are very neatly carved on black granite.
There are three basads in this complex :
The Parshvanatha Basadi was built by Boppadeva in 1133 A.D. during the reign of King Vishnuvardhana. Boppadeva was the son of the notable Gangaraja, a minister under Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana. The construction of the temple coincided with the victory of Narasimha I as the royal heir to the throne. The deity therefore is called Vijaya Parsvanatha (lit, victorious Parsvanatha). Sculptures of yaksha and yakshi Padmavati are present in the mahamantapa. The Basadi is built of soapstone and consists of a garbhagriha, a sukhanasi, a navaranga and a detached mukhamandapa. The pillars of the mukhamandapa are not polished but are beautifully ornate. There are twelve pillars in the navaranga are highly polished with mirror-like glossy surface. The ceilings have small sculptures on it.The most important attraction of this temple is the 18 ft. tall Parsvanatha Tirtankara statue in the garbhagriha (sanctum). This sculpture with a seven hooded serpent over his head represents a perfect yogi or a realized soul with a benign and sympathetic smile on his lips.
The Shantinatha Basadi was built around 1192 A.D., during the reign of Veera Ballala II. Shantinatha Basadi is almost similar to the Parshvanatha Basadi but of lesser dimensions is the Shantinatha Basadi. It was built around 1192 A.D., during the reign of Ballala II. Its temple plan is similar to that of the Parsvanatha temple, it consists of a garbhagriha, sukhanasi, a navaranga and a mandapa. The mandapa must have been added later during the Vijayanagara period. The garbhagriha has a fine image of Shantinatha tirtankara which is also about 18 ft. in height.
In between these two basadis, is another smaller one, the Adinatha Basadi, built in 1138 A.D., by minister Mallayya during the reign of king Vishnuvardhana. The Adinatha Basadi is the smallest amongst the three Jain basadis, it is also built in 12th century. A monolith of Bahubali which was present inside this temple but now is displayed outside Halebidu museum.
Halebid is famous for Hoyasaleswar temple, it is not only a Hindu piligrim center; it is also a Jain pilgrim center.Hassan is a town in the Indian state of Karnataka. Hassan is situated 980 m above sea level. It is named after the Hasanamba temple. Hassan is 183 kilometres from Bangalore, 119 kilometres from Mysore, and 171 kilometres from Mangalore.

Kondajji Lakshmi Varadarajaswamy Chennakeshava Hassan tourism ancient temples of Karnataka Tourism
Kondajji Lakshmi Varadarajaswamy Chennakeshava Hassan tourism ancient temples of Karnataka Tourism . The Lord Vishnu at kondajji known in the name of Lakshmi Varadarajaswamy , the hoysala soul sculpture can be seen here. The statue mainly made by amruthshile also called saligrama shile . The sculpture is complete from 360degree, having garuda vahana ,shanka , chakra , standing on lotus , lakshmi in left side chest of vishnu and smiling face called mandasmitha .
Kondajji. The little village situated about 17 km from Hassan, is home to a 14th century temple of Varadaraja Swamy, also called Allalanatha. Legend has it that this 18 feet tall status was to be enshrined at the Channakeshava temple complex. But for some reason, it could not make it all the way, and was apparently going to be deserted. An old lady (Ajji, which means grandmother in Kannada) decided to buy the statue and establish it in a temple at that place, and the village got the name name 'Kondajji'. The Varadaraja statue alone is the centre of attraction here, the temple does not have any of the signature Hoysala architectural elements.
Its made of black stone bearing Shanka, Chakra, Gadha and Abhaya Mudhra where the facial expression of the idol captures the vision of every visitor.
It is one of 24 avatars of Lord Vishnu.
A very unique thing here is on the right side of the chest of Lord Varadharaja you can find a small impression of lord Lakshmi where Lakshmi acquires the name as Shrenika. People can climb the loft to perform Abhisheka to the lord from the top. It’s worth visiting once and enjoy the glory of the village with Lord Varadharaj History.
Kondajji is noted for temple of Chennakeshava (Allalanatha). There is an extraordinary image enshrined in a very ordinary granite temple. The image is about 18ft tall, made out of black stone. This most exquisite deity bearing the beautiful conch (Sankha), the Cakra, the Gade (the mace) and the Lotus, has been taken as Varadaraja Swamy by most of the people. Allala Natha is another favourite name given to this Lord by the localities. The decorative features found on the beautiful form of the Lord, the inexplicably delicate nicety of the sculptural work and the uniquely exquisite facial expression - every one of these aspects captivate the mind and heart of the spectator. Both to the sanctuary and on to the loft built for the sake of Pooja and Abhisheka, visitors have unrestricted access and this is a speciality of only this place. The back and the backside of this varadaraja murthy are highly attractive in all aspects including sculptural ornamentations.

Markonahalli Dam - Automatic Siphon System Dam by Sir M. Visvesvaraya - ,Mandya Toursim, Karnataka tourism. Markonahalli Dam, located at Bitagonahalli, Karnataka. Bitagonahalli village is located in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district in Karnataka, India. It is situated 18km from Nagamangala and 71km away Mandya, 90 kms from Mysore and 96 Kms from Bangalore
Markonahalli Dam is built across the river Shimsha near Kunigal Taluk of Tumkur district. It was built to irrigate 6,070 hectares of land and has a masonry structure of 139 m and a pair of earth dams extending to 1,470 metres on either side.
The uniqueness of the dam is that, that the dam gates are kept open always, still the water does not flow unless the dam is full. This is because the dam has 4 small, 2 big and 10 wood siphons which when dam is full will automatically allow water to pass through. This dam requires no actual maintenance and the water in the whole dam can be cleared within one and half hour. The reservoir has a catchment area of 4,103 kms and can hold a volume of 68 million of water at a full reservoir level of 731.57 m above the mean sea level. In 2000, a part of the dam had to be demolished to prevent floods and save 25 villages.
