In this harrowing video footage of The Battle of Arnhem, the famous World War 2 British-led military operation that was ultimately a failure, the Brits planned to enter the Netherlands but met unexpected resistance from the 9th and 10th SS divisions. Reinforcements were sent via gliders with a paratroop regiment, but due to foggy conditions they arrived late and were shot down by the SS. Polish troops were late too and when they arrived were not strong enough in numbers to help to push the operation through.

Arnhem - april 1945
(Scroll down for English) Indrukwekkende beelden van Operation Anger. Operatie Quick Anger was een militaire operatie om tijdens de slotfase van de Tweede Wereldoorlog de stad Arnhem in te nemen. Dit wordt af en toe aangeduid als de Tweede Slag om Arnhem of de bevrijding van Arnhem. De operatie begon op 12 april 1945, drie infanterie brigades van de 49e Division vochten zich een weg door Arnhem. Binnen vier dagen was Arnhem volledig onder Geallieerde controle zodat de Canadezen verder konden oprukken door Nederland.
Impressive footage of Operation Anger. Operation Quick Anger was a military operation to seize the city of Arnhem in April 1945, during the closing stages of the Second World War. It is occasionally referred to as the Second Battle of Arnhem or the Liberation of Arnhem. The operation began on 12 April 1945 and proceeded to plan, as the three infantry brigades of the 49th Division leapfrogged each other through the city. Within four days Arnhem was totally under Allied control, allowing the Canadians to advance further into the Netherlands.

Various shots as British tanks enter Beek, a frontier town between Nijmegen and Kleff. Pathe cameraman Ken Gordon goes along the road with the first British tank to enter the Reich. Various shots of white flags hung out and allied soldiers manning German sentry boxes. Various shots of officers and men of the 1st Airborne Division who retreated from Arnhem. They are in good spirits even if they look worn out, they still carry their guns. M/S Major-General Urquhart arriving back in Britain, he gets off the aeroplane and is greeted by U.S. Major-General Paul Williams. Urquhart then delivers a message to the men and tells them that the operation started well and they were dropped on target. (He doesn't go on to explain what went wrong!). M/S group of Arnhem 'Red Devils' cheering.
