കുമരകത്തിനും തണ്ണീർമുക്കത്തിനും ഇടയിലായി, വേമ്പനാട്ട് കായലിൽ, 1800 മീറ്റർ ചുറ്റളവിലുള്ള ഒരു ചെറുദ്വീപാണ് പാതിരാമണൽ. ആലപ്പുഴയിലെ മുഹമ്മപഞ്ചായത്തിൽ മൂന്നാം വാർഡിൽപ്പെട്ട സ്ഥലമാണിത്. നിരവധി ദേശാടന പക്ഷികൾ ചേക്കേറാൻ എത്തുന്ന ഇവിടെ സാഹ് യാനം ചിലവഴിക്കാൻ വിദേശികൾ ഉൾപ്പടെ നിരവധി വിനോദ സഞ്ചാരികളാണ് പ്രതിദിനം എത്തി കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നത് .... ഒരു ബട്ടർഫ്ലൈ പാർക്ക് ഇവിടെ നടപ്പിലാക്കാൻ പോകുന്നു എന്നു കുറച്ചുനാൾ മുൻപുകേട്ടിരുന്നു. നടന്നാലും ഇല്ലങ്കിലുംസഞ്ചാരികൾക്ക് ഒരു ദിവസം കയറി ഇറങ്ങിനടന്ന് കാണാൻ പറ്റിയസ്ഥലമാണ് പാതിരാമണൽ ദ്വീപ് . ദേശാടന പക്ഷികളുടെ പറുദീസയാണ് ഇവിടം, അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ പക്ഷി നിരീക്ഷകരുടെയും. മനുഷ്യന്റെ കൈകടത്തല്‍ അധികം ഇല്ലാത്തതുകൊണ്ട് പ്രകൃതി ദത്തമായ മനോഹാരിത നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്നു.
മണ്ണും ചെളിയും കലര്‍ന്ന ഭൂപ്രദേശമാണിത്. ഏകദേശം 20 ഹെക്ടറില്‍ ആയി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു. കായകണ്ടല്‍, കരകണ്ടല്‍, ചക്കര കണ്ടല്‍, കൊമ്മട്ടി തുടങ്ങിയ കണ്ടല്‍ ചെടികളും പന്നല്‍ ചെടികള്‍ കുറ്റിചെടികള്‍ ചെറു സസ്യങ്ങള്‍ വള്ളിചെടികള്‍, തുടങ്ങിയവയും കൊണ്ട് നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. വിവിധ ഇനം മത്സ്യങ്ങള്‍, കക്കകള്‍ ചെമ്മീന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവയുടെ പ്രജനന കേന്ദ്രമാണ് ഇവിടം
24 ല്‍ പരം തുമ്ബികള്‍ 34 ഇല്‍ പരം ചിത്ര ശലഭങ്ങള്‍ 23 ല്‍ പരം ചിലന്തികള്‍ 44 ല്‍ പരം മത്സ്യങ്ങള്‍ പലതരം മൃഗങ്ങള്‍ 93 ല്‍ പരം പക്ഷികള്‍ 9 ല്‍ പരം സസ്തനികള്‍ എന്നി വൈവിധ്യങ്ങള്‍ കൊണ്ട് നിറഞ്ഞതാണ് ഇവിടം.
കായലിൽ സന്ധ്യാവന്ദനത്തിനിറങ്ങിയ ബ്രാഹ്മണയുവാവിനു മുന്നിൽ കായൽ വഴിമാറി കരയായി മാറിയ സ്ഥലമെന്ന് ഐതിഹ്യം. തിരുവിതാംകൂർ രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കൈവശമായിരുന്ന ഈ ദ്വീപ് “അനന്തപത്മനാഭൻ തോപ്പ്” എന്നാണത്രേ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്. പിന്നീട് ഇത് ആൻഡ്രൂസ് പെരേര എന്ന പോർച്ചുഗീസ് നാവികന് കൈമാറപ്പെടുകയും, 1979ൽ ഭൂപരിഷ്കരണനിയമം നടപ്പിലായ സമയത്ത് ഗവണ്മെന്റ് ഏറ്റെടുക്കുകയും, തുടർന്ന് വിനോദസഞ്ചാര വകുപ്പിന്റെ കീഴിലാവുകയും ചെയ്തു. ദ്വീപിൽ അന്ന് താമസമുണ്ടായിരുന്ന പന്ത്രണ്ട് കൂടുംബങ്ങളെ മുഹമ്മയിലേക്ക് പുനരധിവസിപ്പിക്കുകയാണ് ചെയ്തത്. നിലവിലിവിടെ ആൾത്താമസമില്ല.

Pathiramanal (Malayalam: പാതിരാമണൽ) is a small island in Muhamma panchayat of Alappuzha district and border of Kottayam district also . The name Pathiramanal means 'sands of night'. The scenic beauty of both sides of the lake as well as that of the island is mind blowing. It is home to many rare varieties of migratory birds from different parts of the world.
The Pathiramanal Island is 28.505 ha. It is about 1.5 km from Muhamma boat jetty and about 13 km from Alapuzha. From the jetty close by Baker Bungalow the distance to the island is about 5 km and from Kumarakom 4 km towards northwest.

സഞ്ചാരികളുടെ സ്വർഗ്ഗമായ ആലപ്പുഴയിലെ ഒരു വിനോദസഞ്ചാര കേന്ദ്രമാണ് വേമ്പനാട് കായലിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പാതിരമണൽ എന്ന ചെറുദ്വീപ്. പലവർണങ്ങൾ നിറഞ്ഞ നൂറുകണക്കിന് ദേശാടന പക്ഷികളുടെ വാസസ്ഥലമാണ് ഇവിടം. പക്ഷിനിരീക്ഷകർക്ക് ഒരു പറുദീസയാണ് പാതിരമണൽ. ധാരാളം തെങ്ങുകളും സസ്യങ്ങളും നിറഞ്ഞതാണ് ഈ മനോഹര ദ്വീപ്. കല്ലു പാകിയ നടവഴികളിലൂടെ കാടിനെ ആസ്വദിച്ചും കണ്ടൽ ചെടികളോടും കാട്ടു വള്ളികളോടും ചേർന്ന് നിൽക്കുന്ന കാഴ്ച്ചയുടെ മനോഹാരിത ആസ്വദിച്ചും ഈ പച്ചതുരുത്തിലേക്ക് കടന്നു ചെല്ലാം. വേമ്പനാട് കായലിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ദ്വീപിലേക്ക് ജലമാര്‍ഗ്ഗം മാത്രമേ എത്തിച്ചേരുവാൻ സാധിക്കുകയുള്ളു. കായല്‍ യാത്ര നടത്തുന്ന സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്ക് വിശ്രമിക്കാനും പച്ചവിരിച്ച സൗന്ദര്യ കാഴ്ച്ചകളോട് പറ്റിയ ഇടമാണിവിടം.

കുമരകത്തിനും തണ്ണീർമുക്കം ബണ്ടിനും ഇടയ്ക്കുള്ള ഈ സ്ഥലത്തേയ്ക്ക് കുമരകത്തു നിന്നും ബോട്ട് ലഭിക്കും. മോട്ടോർ ബോട്ടിൽ ഒന്നര മണിക്കൂറും സ്പീഡ് ബോട്ടിൽ അര മണുക്കൂറുമാണ് ദൈർഘ്യം.
