UNBELIEVABLE THINGS IN BANGKOK | INCREDIBLE FORTUNE TELLING |
The reality of Thai society is that fortune telling is the serious issue here by almost every Thai citizen and superstitions go along with Thailand really well. One of the most sacred place in Bangkok we went is Bangkok city pillar shrine. There, we tried Thai way of telling if the wish would come true. Lifting up sacred buddha statue is one of the way to tell your future to see if your wish would come true and this is actually unbelievable, if the first round you could lift sacred statue up but you can't lift up in the second round, meaning that what you wish would come true. Some of those who dare their wish with the sacred statue got different result. The unbelievable part is that when you can lift it up in the first round, then why you can't lift it up at all in the second round, no matter how much effort you try to lift the statue up.

Lak mueang (Thai: หลักเมือง) are city pillars found in most cities of Thailand. Usually housed in a shrine (Thai: ศาลหลักเมือง) which is also believed to house Chao Pho Lak Mueang (เจ้าพ่อหลักเมือง), the city spirit deity. It was constructed because the continuation of ancient traditions and Brahman's customs believed that it has something to do with the Held, the single city pillar ceremony (Held “Lak Muang”) which is made of an Acacia wood Chaiyaphreuk (Thai: ชัยพฤกษ์) before the construction of the city for a major goal to build a city and to be the centre of soul for the citizens.
People usually use three incense sticks, one candle, gold foil, two lotuses, two flower garlands, and one three-colour taffeta to worship at the shrine.

Tipitaka Patrons lead the World Tipitaka Recitation at Bangkok City Hall
November 14, 2008 at the Bangkok City Hall, Thailand.
The World Tipiṭaka Recitation Ceremony was organised in esteemed homage to the late Princess Galyani Vadhana, His Majesty the King's elder sister, whose dedication to the people and the nation was immense and well-known both in Thailand and abroad.
HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana was the Founding Honorary President and Royal Patron of the World Tipiṭaka Project which published the Pāḷi Tipiṭaka from the 40-volume Great International Council Edition, for the first time in the Roman script, in Bangkok in 2005.
The World Tipiṭaka Recitation Ceremony was organised by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the M.L.Maniratanta Bunnag Dhamma Society Fund under the Patronage of His Holiness Somdet Phra Ñāṇasaṃvara, the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand.
In order to make it possible for people all over the country to participate in the Tipiṭaka Recitation, one million copies of the Tipiṭaka Recitation Manual was published and distributed nationwide. A multi-media and personalised technology, particularly a mobile phone technology will be used to facilitate the practice of recitation in the original language of Pāḷi [paːɭi] and translation in Thai language.
This brief clip shows four special guests, including H.E. the President of the Constitutional Court of Thailand H.E. the former Thai Ambassador to New Delhi, and University Professors who have been invited to lead the Recitation with HRH Princess Soamsavali.
This Documentary is part of the World Tipiṭaka Archives produced by the Dhamma Society.

From On Nut to Phra Khanong over Samut Prakan
Samut Prakan Pier, Ferry to Phra Pradaeng, across the Chao Phraya River, Thailand.
Samut Prakan Pier and the Chao Phraya River.
Wiboonsri Market, Samut Prakan, is full of fresh food, vegetables, sea food, fish, its where many people flock to, to buy their food. I was amazed at the quality and selection here, and it was really cheap compared to most other markets.
Samut Prakan, also known as Pak Nam, is located 29 kilometres south of Bangkok, around the area where the Chao Phraya River flows into the Gulf of Thailand. It is a town of the Ayutthaya period. Samut Prakan is home to countless historical and cultural sites. It occupies an area of 1,004 square kilometres and is administratively divided into 5 districts ( Amphoes ) and 1 sub-district ( Ging Amphoe ) Amphoe Muang Samut Prakan, Amphoe Phra Pradaeng, Amphoe Bang Phli, Amphoe Bang Bo, Amphoe Phra Sumut Chedi, and Ging Amphoe Bang Sao Thong.
In Thai the word samut is from Sanskrit, Samudra means ocean or sea and prakan means fortress.
Samut Prakan is located at the mouth of the Chao Phraya river to the Gulf of Thailand. Thus the province is also sometimes called Pak Nam , the Thai word for the mouth of a river. The part of the province located on the western side of the river consist mostly of rice and prawn fields as well as mangrove forests, while the east part is the urban centre - including industrial factories. It is part of the Bangkok metropolis, the urbanization on both sides of the provincial boundary is identical. The province has a coastline of about 47.2 kilometre's.
Bang Pu Nature Reserve, about 12 km east of the town center, has a big bird population. Especially during the winter the Sakdi pier at Bang Pu is very popular for Thai people feeding the wintering seagulls. The park is run jointly by the Royal Thai Army and the Thai WWF, and was officially established at the 72nd birthday of Queen Sirikit in 2004.
The HTMS Maeklong, a former Royal Thai Navy ship is moored in concrete at Chulachomklao Fort at the mouth of the Chao Phraya in Amphoe Phra Samut Chedi.
Two major tourist attractions of the province are located in Amphoe Mueang Samut Prakan, the capital district: Mueang Boran or Ancient City or now Ancient Siam, a park that features downscaled replicas of all major historical buildings of Thailand; and the Crocodile Farm.
Besides being the home of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Amphoe Bang Phli is famous for the annual Lotus Flower ( Rap Bua ) festival, which usually takes place on the full moon in October.

SUMMARY
=======
Bangkok is the capital and most populous city of Thailand. It is known in Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon or simply Krung Thep. The city occupies 1,568.7 square kilometres (605.7 sq mi) in the Chao Phraya River delta in central Thailand, and has a population of over eight million, or 12.6 percent of the country's population. Over fourteen million people (22.2 percent) lived within the surrounding Bangkok Metropolitan Region at the 2010 census, making Bangkok the nation's primate city, significantly dwarfing Thailand's other urban centres in terms of importance.
Bangkok traces its roots to a small trading post during the Ayutthaya Kingdom in the 15th century, which eventually grew and became the site of two capital cities: Thonburi in 1768 and Rattanakosin in 1782. Bangkok was at the heart of the modernization of Siam, later renamed Thailand, during the late-19th century, as the country faced pressures from the West. The city was at the centre of Thailand's political struggles throughout the 20th century, as the country abolished absolute monarchy, adopted constitutional rule, and underwent numerous coups and several uprisings. The city grew rapidly during the 1960s through the 1980s and now exerts a significant impact on Thailand's politics, economy, education, media and modern society. The Asian investment boom in the 1980s and 1990s led many multinational corporations to locate their regional headquarters in Bangkok. The city is now a regional force in finance and business. It is an international hub for transport and health care, and has emerged as a centre for the arts, fashion, and entertainment. The city is known for its street life and cultural landmarks, as well as its red-light districts. The Grand Palace and Buddhist temples including Wat Arun and Wat Pho stand in contrast with other tourist attractions such as the nightlife scenes of Khaosan Road and Patpong. Bangkok is among the world's top tourist destinations, and has been named the world's most visited city in several rankings.
Bangkok's rapid growth coupled with little urban planning has resulted in a haphazard cityscape and inadequate infrastructure. An inadequate road network, despite an extensive expressway network, together with substantial private car usage, have led to chronic and crippling traffic congestion, which caused severe air pollution in the 1990s. The city has since turned to public transport in an attempt to solve the problem. Five rapid transit lines are now in operation, with more systems under construction or planned by the national government and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
Grand Corridor of Nellaiappar temple , Thirunelveli , Tamil Nadu
This is one of the big temples in Pandiya Naadu measuring 756 feet by 850 feet. This temple is a complex of two huge temples, one for Lord Nellaiappar and the other one for Kanthimathi Ammai, located side by side linked by the Mani mandapam.
legend
A poor Brahmin Veda Sarma who was a great Siva Bhakta, used to go out begging and offer the alms thus gathered to the Lord everyday. One day, when he was drying the paddy which he had collected, it rained suddenly and Veda Sarma was worried. He prayed to Lord in distress and the Lord protected the paddy from the rain by covering it and standing around it like a fence. So this place came to be known as Thiru Nel Veli (Nel – means paddy and Veli – means fence). The Lord also came to be known as Nellaiappar.
