PATINA WINES, Fiesta in the Courtyard with Victor Valdes
This idea of a Fiesta celebration has been rattling around my brain for a long time just waiting for the completion of our courtyard.
While I was excited about it, I was unsure just how well it would be received so I was rather tentative when I launched Fiesta in the Courtyard during FOOD week... The result was an incredibly fun event and the feedback was fantastic! The food was delicious and the music and dancing created an amazing vibe.
Mustard Patina On A High Carbon Steel Knife Schrade SCHF36
I got tired of the older coating on my Schrade SCHF36, so I stripped it off and tried the old mustard trick out. It came out really nice for a first try. Must easier to use now too. Gives it a nice look, and the knife is nice and smooth now. If you do this, keep your knife well oiled as it can rust.

Australia hostel knife attack: Thomas Jackson dies
Australia hostel knife attack: Thomas Jackson dies
A British man who was injured trying to save a fellow backpacker as she was stabbed to death in Australia has died, Queensland Police has said.
Thomas Jackson, 30, of Congleton, Cheshire, was injured when he tried to help Mia Ayliffe-Chung, 21, in the attack at a hostel last week.
Frenchman Smail Ayad, 29, has been charged with murdering Ms Ayliffe-Chung and attempting to murder Mr Jackson.
Police said this charge would be changed to murder.
'Selfless'
Mr Jackson's father Les said: We are bereft. Our darling Tom has left us and the world is a poorer place.
The backpacker suffered critical head injuries as he went to the aid of Ms Ayliffe-Chung, from Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Police described his actions as selfless.
A spokesman for Queensland Police said Mr Jackson had passed away in the Townsville Hospital.
Investigations were continuing, but detectives will upgrade the charge to murder when Mr Ayad next appears at Townsville Magistrates' Court on October 28, he added.

How to Age Brass
Watch more Great Craft Ideas videos:
It's possible to mimic the surface oxidation of antique brass objects by using the following techniques.
Warning
If you use chemicals to age brass, wear gloves that completely cover your hands, and safety glasses. Work in a well-ventilated room.
Step 1: Remove any varnish
Remove any varnish from the surface of the object by applying acetone with a brush. Rinse off the acetone with hot water.
Tip
If you are not sure the object is made of brass – bronze and copper look similar – take it to an expert for an evaluation. Aging treatments that work for brass may damage other materials.
Step 2: Brush vinegar or salt water on the surface
Brush vinegar or salt water over the entire surface of the object using the paintbrush. Both liquids oxidize the brass.
Step 3: Apply heat
Apply heat or a flame to the object, which causes the brass object to take on an aged appearance relatively quickly.
Warning
Brass is often coated with lacquer. Be sure that all lacquer has been removed from the object before subjecting it to flame because lacquer is flammable.
Step 4: Use a commercial aging product
Apply an over-the-counter aging product, though it may leave a color deposit on the object’s surface that wears off easily during normal use.
Step 5: Use ammonia
Place the object in a large plastic bag next to a rag soaked in ammonia. Ammonia vapor produces a greenish-brown oxide finish on brass, close in color to a natural patina.
Did You Know?
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.

Table manners are actually something your parents taught you but are actually far more important as an adult. First of all, your table manners speak volumes about your refinement and it's often interpreted as a sign of character. It's not at all about being snobby or showing off but much rather show respect, your host and your dining partners will greatly appreciate your manners.
It's very important to keep in mind, proper table manners aways help you and never hurt you. The good thing is they can be learned and its never too late to do so.
So what are table manners?
I suggest you turn your cell phone ringer off when you enter someone else's home and put your phone in your pocket when you're with the guests. Don't leave your phone on the table because you are much more likely to pick it up and look at it which is impolite In the presence of other people.
If the table is all set, you don't just walk in and sit down. Wait to be seated or wait for the queue of the host, or if they sit, you can sit as well.
Ideally, want to sit up straight but comfortably, don't slouch, or cross your arms, or sit as you would on your couch while watching a football game.
Don't expect to sit next to your partner and follow the lead of the hosts. Traditionally, couples were always mixed up to sit with different people.
If there's a napkin on the plate or next to a plate, put it on your lap right away. If the host or hostess wants to say grace, accept the gesture for what it is and move along.
Two, let's take a look at the place setting. In the Western world, an informal place will always have at least a plate, a knife, and a fork. If dessert will be served, you'll find either a little fork or a spoon on the top side of the plate. If soup is served or anything else that requires a spoon, you will also have a spoon. On the top right of the plate, you'll likely find a water glass which is always filled and a wine glass which is empty, to begin with. Sometimes you also find beer glasses; if you prefer that, if that's what's served with a meal. If you see little plate with an extra knife on a top left to your plate, that's for bread and butter. When you're done with the course, you place the fork and a knife at a four to five o'clock angle that means you're done.
Three, now it's time to serve the food. Most informal dinners are family-style meaning there are bowls or platters where food is served from. For formal dinners, courses are usually plated but we talk about the intricacies of that in our formal dining etiquette video here.
With bowls and anything at the table, the cardinal rule is, don't reach over anybody else and don't touch them. To start, pass the bowl around the table from the left to the right when you get the bowl you hold it and you serve yourself then you pass it on to your neighbor on the right. Always use the serving utensils and never your silverware that's on your place setting. Of course, if the host or hostess has a different idea, go with what they do.
Four, finally it's time to eat. You should only start eating when everyone else has been served and a host or hostess starts to take their fork and take the lead. It is very impolite and sometimes even rude to just dig into your plate of food while the others are still empty-handed.

The difference between the $190 Clarks desert boot and 130 dollar version:
Supposedly, the expensive version is more hard-wearing and luxurious. I have to say the leather is quite nice, it's a soft supple suede leather and on the inside, you can find a scotch grain like texture. What that means is simply the suede is reversed which is very typical of a leather that you see from steed. On the other hand, the less expensive version has a suede-like texture on both sides which means the smoother outside was sanded down and overall, $190 boot has definitely a more superior leather.
When it comes to the welt, you see a higher stitch density on the Italian version than on the less expensive version. Normally, on a Goodyear welted shoe, a higher stitch density indicates a higher quality but in this case, the shoes are not Goodyear welted and I don't think it matters in everyday life.
In terms of fit, walkability, and comfort, I find it to be all very similar. In terms of sizing, I think the Clarks run true-to-size if at all, a little smaller. They're a little wider in the heel but I have very slim heels. If you usually were Goodyear welted dress shoes, the Clarks will feel a lot softer. If you are used to trainers, you might think you have to break them in. It's all upon perspective!
So is it worth it? What's the verdict?
