A Walk Around Cezanne's Studio (Atelier Cézanne), Aix-En-Provence, France
Cézanne’s last studio, where he worked from 1902 until his death four years later, has been painstakingly preserved. Some elements have been recreated: not all the tools and still-life models strewn around the room were his. Though the studio is inspiring, and home to periodic exhibitions, none of Cezanne's works actually hang there. It's a leisurely walk to the studio at Lauves hill, 1.5km north of central Aix, or you can take the bus.
Aix-en-Provence day 1 and Paul Cezanne's Studio and Dinner
While I did not cover the TVG train trip to Aix-en-Provence in this online movie, I did capture the overall activities I did in Aix-en-Provence the first day we arrived.
You get Paul Cezanne's studio - where I touched the jacket, robe and cap of the Artist - who everyone knows is my favorite artist.
For dinner - we were treated to a fabulous local restaurant whose name I don't recall. One of my party, Catlin, let loose with her comedian style - to end a wonderful, wonderful first day here in Aix.
Aix-en-Provence day 1 plus tour of Paul Cezanne's Studio
This was my first day in Aix-en-Provence - I walked around by myself a lot and found out where Paul Cezanne's last studio was and walked over to it.
A tour of Cezanne's studio
After his death the studio was shut down. Nothing was changed inside. You can see many of the objects which Cezanne painted. Outside you can see the famous mountain, Montagne Sainte Victoire, which he painted.

Atelier Cezanne in Aix-en-Provence
Paul Cézanne was virtually unknown and unappreciated in his lifetime. He left Paris and settled in Aix-en-Provence where he worked alone, lived alone, and died alone, shunned by all but a few revolutionary young artists who understood his genius.
In his last studio, Atelier Cézanne, look for porcelain vases, paper or fabric flowers, a small plaster cupid, and other items that turn up in his famous still-lifes.

Watercolor Excerpt from Cezanne’s Mont Sainte-Victoire - Landscapes Through Time with David Dunlop
Introduction and Expanded Watercolor Painting Demonstration Excerpt from Cezanne’s Mont Sainte-Victoire in Provence, France - Program 103 of Emmy-Award winning PBS Series Landscapes Through Time with David Dunlop.
In this excerpt from our half-hour PBS program, artist David Dunlop travels to magical locations in France (Aix en Provence and the iconic Mont Sainte-Victoire) that inspired Paul Cezanne (1839-1906). In the program’s introduction, David considers Cezanne’s ambitious struggle to reconcile stability and form with change and movement and discusses his insights into visual perception. David then places his easel in front of Mont Sainte-Victoire and explores Cezanne’s techniques while creating a pencil sketch and a watercolor. In this expanded demonstration we have included additional footage that was not included in the PBS version due to time constraints. David discusses Cezanne’s difficulties, frustrations, and his ultimate success – as the father of Modernism.
Produced by SimmonsArt Inc. and David Dunlop and directed by Connie Simmons.
