STALINGRAD MYTHS AND REALITY: PAVLOV'S HOUSE
ONE OF THE MOST WIDESPREAD, ICONIC EVENT OF THE FIGHTING IN STALINGRAD, IS PAVLOV'S HOUSE.
IT STANDS OUT AS A SYMBOL OF RESISTANCE AGAINST A VASTLY SUPERIOR FORCE, WHICH IS IN SHORT THE SUMMARY OF THE BATTLE FOR STALINGRAD ITSELF.
The official story is that a small garrison, consisting in nationalities from all around the USSR and led by Sergeant Pavlov, held the house for 58 days and nights against countless assaults. On Soviet and German maps alike, the house allegedly appeared in red, like a fortress. This version of the story has been published in newspapers, academic studies and schoolbooks for decades, so it's now fully part of popular culture about Stalingrad.

AND BEYOND THIS STORY, WHAT ABOUT THE REAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MOST SYMBOLIC EVENTS IN THE BATTLE FOR STALINGRAD?

Historical Battle - Battle for Pavlov's House
Even if there are many dark pages in the history books that concern themselves with the second World War, some stories shine like a small ember. Stories which tell of heroic deeds and that brought hope to populations that have almost lost everything.
A think to take note of though is that the victors write the history, and it is unsure if the battles which are told of happened like it is said to be. This is how we know the battle today, if there is anything which is exaggerated, please make sure to tell me.

Pavlov's House was a fortified apartment building which Red Army defenders held for 60 days against a heavy Wehrmacht offensive during the Battle of Stalingrad. The siege lasted from 27 September to 25 November 1942 and eventually the Soviet forces managed to relieve it from the siege. It gained its popular name from Sergeant Yakov Pavlov, who commanded the platoon that seized the building and defended it during the long battle....

Stalingrad: The Commissar's House
Using the German and Soviet struggle in the city of Stalingrad as a template, Stalingrad: The Commissar’s House examines the challenges that armies face when operating in dense urban terrain. Located along the cliffs of the Volga River, the Barrikady Factory was a sprawling production complex which had been wrecked during the German advance into the city. Situated in this area, the Commissar’s House was an administrative building that became a Soviet strongpoint in the fight for the factory district. From a doctrinal perspective, this film concentrates on the role of armored vehicles and the use of reserves in dense urban terrain.

Полвека к нему приходили за поддержкой и духовным советом тысячи людей: епископы и митрополиты, академики и бизнесмены, чиновники и сельские священники, простые рабочие и народные артисты. Говорили не только о святости почившего монаха, но и том, что в Сталинграде он сражался за знаменитый дом Павлова, ставший символом стойкости советского солдата. Но события осени 1942 года до конца жизни отца Кирилла (до монашеского пострига Ивана Павлова) остались загадкой, которую он не раскрыл даже самым близким людям. Он молчал о самых страшных днях Сталинграда, как будто держал давно данный кому-то обет.
