World Famus Edakkal caves Wayanad Kerala visit Leadership of dr.V.T.Ingole
This video recorded November 2007 by Shirishkumar Patil.... Edakkal Caves are two natural caves at a remote location at Edakkal, 25 km from Kalpetta in the Wayanad district of Kerala in India's Western Ghats. They lie 1,200 metres above sea level on Ambukutty Mala, beside an ancient trade route connecting the high mountains of Mysore to the ports of the Malabar coast. Inside the caves are pictorial writings believed to date to at least 5000 BC, from the Neolithic man, indicating the presence of a prehistoric civilization or settlement in this region. The Stone Age carvings of Edakkal are rare and are the only known examples from south India. Petroglyphs These are not technically caves, but rather a cleft or rift approximately 96 feet (29 m) by 22 feet (6.7 m), a 30-foot-deep (9.1 m) fissure caused by a piece of rock splitting away from the main body. On one side of the cleft is a rock weighing several tons that covers the cleft to form the 'roof' of the cave. The carvings are of human and animal figures, tools used by humans and of symbols yet to be deciphered, suggesting the presence of a prehistoric settlemen. The petroglyphs inside the cave are of at least three types. The oldest may date back to over 8,000 years. Evidences suggest that the Edakkal caves were inhabited several times at different points in history. The caves were discovered by Fred Fawcett, a police official of the erstwhile Malabar state in 1890 who immediately recognised their anthropological and historical importance. He wrote an article about them, attracting the attention of scholars .Probable links with Indus valley civilization The caves contain drawings that range over periods from as early as 5000 BC to 1000 BC. The youngest group of paintings have been in the news for a possible connection to the Indus Valley Civilization.Historian M.R. Raghava Varier of the Kerala state archaeology department identified a sign a man with jar cup that is the most distinct motif of the Indus valley civilization.[9] The finding, made in September 2009, indicates that the Harappan civilization was active in the region. The a man with jar cup symbol from Edakkal seems to be more similar to the Indus motif than those already known from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Mr. Varier said The discovery of the symbols are akin to that of the Harappan civilisation having predominantly Dravidian culture and testimony to the fact that cultural diffusion could take place. It is wrong to presume that the Indus culture disappeared into thin air. The scholar of Indus and the Tamil Brahmi scripts, Mr. Iravatham Mahadevan said the findings were very significant called it a major discovery.

Wayanad is an Indian district in the north-east of Kerala state with administrative headquarters at the municipality of Kalpetta. It is set high on the Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 meters.[5] The district was formed on 1 November 1980 as the 12th district in Kerala by carving out areas from Kozhikode and Kannur districts. About 885.92 sq.km of area of the district is under forest.[6] Wayanad has three municipal towns—Kalpetta, Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery. There are many indigenous tribals in this area.[7][8]
Wayanad district is bordered by Karnataka to north and north-east, Tamil Nadu to south-east, Malappuram to south, Kozhikode to south-west and Kannur to north-west.[9] Pulpally in Wayanad boasts of the only Lava Kusha Temple in Kerala and Vythiri has the only mirror temple in Kerala which is a Jain temple. The edicts and caves of Ambukuthi Mala and another evidence state that the place is as old as the beginning of the New Age Civilisation.[10]
History
About 7 km from Pulpally is the place of death of Pazhassi Raja who led the famous Pazhassi Revolt against the East India Company during the 18th century and was killed on 30 November 1805. The death place of pazhassi Raja is called mavilanthodu near vandikadavu.
Village without leeches
It is claimed to be the only place in Wayanad District not having leeches. There is a story behind this, Lava and Kusa were playing in the forest and a leech started troubling them. At that time mother Seeta Devi had seen it and cursed the leeches to not enter the boundary of Pulpally. The myth says that the name Pulpally came out from a Parnasala made out of Grass, were Lava and Kusa were doing their education.
The entire community irrespective of cast or living standards in and around Pulpally will be giving offerings and participating the Sita LavaKusa Temple festival. Majority of the families were migrated from South Kerala in between 1950 and 1970's.
Pulpally is sharing the border with Karnataka, it's just 10 km away from the town. If the Karnataka and Kerala Governments works together for a Bridge between the Kabani River, it will be the shortest way to Mysore from Kerala.
The very famous Kuruva Island is just 10 km away from Pulpally
Pulpally is a mid-sized town in Wayanad District of Kerala, India. Geographically a Village in Sultan Bathery Taluk and a Grama Panchayath under local self governance system. It is about 24 km from Sultan Battery, and is almost surrounded by forest.
I'm TRAPPED ???????? 2500 വർഷത്തെ മുനിയറക്കകത്ത് !! 2500 Years Old Muniyara In Calicut | Roshensvlog
Muniyara or Munimada is a megalithic monument found in the midland and coastal areas of Kerala. The caves found in Kandanassery, Kattakampal and Eyyal in Thrissur district and Chathamparambu near Feroke in Kozhikode have multiple cavities.
Bead strings with valuable gems were discovered from the caves at Chathamparambu. Some experts are of the view that Buddhist monks attained nirvana in these caves.
The caves date back to 2 or 3 BC. Historians have proved that many of such caves found in South India were the housings of Buddha and Jain monks.
Some other historians claim by that these caves were the residences of the members of the Essenes, a Judaist missionary group, that reached the state along with St. Thomas, the Apostle during the reign of Uthiyan Cheran of the Chera dynasty. According to them, these missionaries reached here during AD 68-69 and the locals called them ‘Eeshanis.’
The historians say that the Essenes sect members are believed to have hid the ‘Dead Sea Scrolls’ in the Qumran Caves while fleeing from the Romans during the destruction of Jerusalem. They are said to have reached Kerala later.
The Roman coins discovered from the Eyyal village were of 31 BC - AD 68. The 250 Roman coins excavated from the Essenes’ former habitat at the Jericho Valley too dated back to the same period.
The laterite caves and clay pots found at Jericho Valley and Ariyannoor in the state have striking similarities.

Kerala Edakkal Caves
Edakkal Caves are two natural caves located 1000 metres above sea level on Ambukutty Mala 25 km from Kalpetta in the Wayanad district of Kerala in India's Western Ghats. They lie besides an ancient trade route connecting the high mountains of Mysore to the ports of Malabar coast. Inside the caves are pictorial writings believed to be from neolithic man indicating the presence of a prehistoric civilisation or rather settlement in this region. The stone age carvings of Edakkal are rare and are the only known examples from south India
The name Edakkal literally means a stone in between, and this describes how the cave is formed by a heavy boulder straddling a fissure in the rock. Inside the cave is on two levels, the lower chamber measures about 18 feet long by 12 feet wide and 10 feet high and can be entered through an opening of 5 x 4 feet. A passage opposite the entrance leads upward to a small aperture in the roof through which one climbs up to the next storey whose interior is about 96 feet long, 22 feet wide, and 18 feet high. Light enters the cave through a big gap at the right-hand corner of the roof where the boulder does not touch the facing wall.

Banasura Sagar Dam
There are 44 rivers in Kerala, all but three originating in the Western Ghats. 41 of them flow westward and 3 eastward. The rivers of Kerala are small, in terms of length, breadth and water discharge. The rivers flow faster, owing to the hilly terrain and as the short distance between the Western Ghats and the sea. All the rivers are entirely monsoon-fed and many of them shrink into rivulets or dry up completely during summer. kerala travel

Hi viewers ,
Welcome to our episode of day 2 on Wayanad trip.
Here I covers the Pazhasiraja tomb & Tholpetty Wildlife sanctuary.
Pazhassi Tomb in Kalpetta in Wayanad district is a memorial to Pazhassi Raja (1753-1805) - 'the lion of Kerala'.
The tomb was constructed in the place where his body was cremated and is situated in the banks of Kabani river in Mananthavady.
In 1996,the tomb was converted in to museum which attracts historians, tourists, researchers and students.
The museum contains Pazhassi Raja's sword and some historical information.
I have captured a lot but of bad luck everything got deleted from the SD card, felt sorry for that.
Tholpetty Wildlife sanctuary is located 20 kms east of Mananthavady. It has rich variety of flora and fauna.
It attracts tourist from various places mainly because of the jeep safari where you can see elephants, deer, bison, bear and occasionally tigers & leopards in 20 km deep forest.
Hope you guys liked the videos and meet you soon in another video...
