S.I.M. in partnership with Kamizoku HC Network and with the help of Hope International Development Agency has started construction of a climbing wall and a Relationship-based Outdoor-Activities Center (ROC) in Ishinomaki Japan. Our vision is to see people, especially kids, reclaim relationships and community through sports and other outdoor activities while finding ultimate healing and purpose in Jesus Christ.
Ishinomaki - After the Catastrophe (Part 1)
day trip (Ishinomaki, May 18, 2011)
on May 18, 2011, a group of volunteers with Socks for Japan went on a trip to the town of Ishinomaki, in the Miyagi prefecture of Japan to deliver some aid to the victims of the tsunami. The town is one of the damage areas, hit hard by the tsunami on March 11, 2011.

Student Volunteers working in Ishinomaki, Japan
From May 3rd to the 7th, 90 Japanese and 35 International students
from 20 different countries went as volunteers to Ishinomaki, to support the reconstruction of Northeastern Japan. This is a small video summarizing their 5-day experience there which has marked them for a lifetime and has flourished a new friendship with the fishermen and their families, that will never perish.
Thank you to the fishermen and their families for receiving us volunteers for the first time in their village.

Ishinomaki International Festival: Stand up, take action NOW!! Ugoku/Ugokasu
This movie is the record of Ishinomaki International Festival and
related events in Ishinomaki City, one of the worst affected cities by
Tsunami on March 11, 2011, and Tokyo.
Three community leaders fighting against disaster and poverty in the
Global South visited Ishinomaki City, one of the cities hardest hit by
the tsunami in October 2011 to create a grass-roots solidarity among
the people in disaster and poverty.
The three leaders are Ms. Vasanthakala from Sri Lanka, Ms. Rose Thamae
(Mama Rose) in South Africa and Mr. Ibrahim Muhammad from Iraq. Ms.
Vasanthakala has dedicated herself to reconstruct her village and
district after 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami. Mama Rose has
been leading community movement of people living with HIV/AIDS in
Orange Farm, a township near Johannesburg. And Mr. Ibrahim has been
supporting children suffered from the Iraq war, including the possible
harm of depleted uranium ammunition.
Ugoku/Ugokasu (Global Call to Action against Poverty Japan), a civil
society coaltion against world poverty, invited them to Ishinomaki.
With the cooperation of local organizations and volunteer groups,
including Ishinomaki 2.0, Japan-Iraq Medical Network (JIM-NET) and
Peace Boat Emergency Relief Operation, it held Ishinomaki
International Festival on October 11. In Tokyo, it held joint press
conference, meeting with parliament members, civil society rallies
against poverty.
Mama Rose said Together we can make it, divided, we can't.
Ugoku/Ugokasu would like to continue its efforts to create solidarity
among the people fighting against world poverty and for reconstruction
from disasters.

Ishinomaki- After the Catastrophe (Part 3)
Japan's Peace Boat Journeys to Confront Buried Crimes of the Past & Build Ties for a Hopeful Future
- In 1983, a group of Japanese students formed Peace Boat as a response to government censorship of history books regarding Japan's past military aggression in the Asia-Pacific. They chartered a ship to visit neighboring countries and build people-to-people exchanges. Three decades later Peace Boat now operates a chartered passenger ship that travels the world on peace voyages. The group also organizes against the use of nuclear weapons, nuclear power and other forms of militarism. After the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, the Peace Boat's Disaster Relief Volunteer Center organized thousands of volunteers to help in the relief and rebuilding effort. Peace Boat founder Tatsuya Yoshioka joins us in Tokyo.
