Peace River, originally named Peace River Crossing, and known as Rivière-la-Paix in French,[7] is a town in northwestern Alberta, Canada, situated along the banks of the Peace River, at its confluence with the Smoky River, the Heart River and Pat's Creek. It is located 486 kilometres (302 mi) northwest of Edmonton, and 198 kilometres (123 mi) northeast of Grande Prairie, along Highway 2. It was known as the Village of Peace River Crossing between 1914 and 1916.[2]
The Peace River townsite is nearly 1,000 feet (300 m) below the relatively flat terrain surrounding it. Pat's Creek used to be an open channel though the town but is now a channeled though a culvert under the town streets, re-emerging at the mouth on the Peace River at the Riverfront Park.
The population in the Town of Peace River was 6,729 in 2011, a 6.6% increase over its 2006 population.[4][6] There are significant nodal settlements and subdivisions in the vicinity of the town on acreages along Highway 2 to the west, Highways 684 (Shaftesbury Trail)[8] and 743[9] as well as the southwest portion of Northern Sunrise County. Regionally, there are various First Nation communities to the northeast, French-Canadian farming communities to the south and to the east, and Mennonite and Hutterite German-Canadian farming communities to the north and northwest of the town.
Peace River was the site of the 2004 Alberta Winter Games. In 2010, Peace River, in conjunction with Grimshaw and surrounding municipalities, jointly hosted the 2010 Alberta Summer Games. These Games are held every two years and are Alberta's largest sporting event. - Wikipedia

Northern Alberta Farm Workaway | Grimshaw & Peace River | Jun/Jul 2019
Welcome to another video where James and I head up to northern Alberta for a farm land experience.
Workaway is a great way to see the world and experience a different way of living. We came across Brett & Amber's farm through workaway and we chose to live with them on their farm for 3 weeks volunteering with accommodation and food included.

You can basically choose a country and use the search boxes to shortlist what you are looking for. James and I were looking for something in Alberta, a complete change from the city life and that would accept a couple, and were happy to volunteer or have a paid placement. (If you choose to have a paid placement then you will need to prove you can work in that country, we both have a working holiday visa for Canada and we have documents to prove if we had chosen something like this.)
We lived on the farm and got involved into their daily routine. Brett and Amber have a seed farm and we learnt lots about their process and how the seasons and weather affect everything for them. We visited right in the middle of their seeding and hope to re visit next year for their harvest and get stuck into a more challenging experience.
We definitely learnt a lot and as a couple that is used to a city life it was a big change and very hands on to what we are used to. But we LOVED it! Workaway is a great way to see other peoples way of living and what goes into their routines and lifestyles.
We captured a few snips of our 3 weeks on the farm and even got to see some wildlife.... Just wait till the end :D
The farm is about 20mins from the nearest town of Grimshaw..... if you've ever seen 'we bought a zoo' and the scene where the dad forgot butter and the kids make him drive 9 miles to the nearest shop... it reminded me of that movie!!!!
Grimshaw was handy for a grocery store, swimming pool, gas stations, subway and A&W.
The next town over is Peace River.... 40mins journey to a much larger town with big supermarkets like Walmart and IGA. You can find a selection of hotels, restaurants and even a movie theater were we watched the new Toystory film!!!
After having 8 months in Vancouver which is a great city to live in and experience we very much enjoyed this change for the past 3 weeks.
We are currently on our next workaway adventure for 6 weeks in northern BC which is about and hour and a half from Prince George.... living the cabin life.
