Cleaning the Plasticized Bucket Fountain, Wellington
We passed by the beloved Bucket Fountain on Cuba Mall in downtown Wellington, New Zealand, on April 1, 2006 as it was being cleaned by the artist who had covered it with his clay plasticizer.

Day 27: HOLY WATERFALL! Best of NZ, Milford Sound

I was seriously lost for words with this experience. Milford Sound is an absolute must in New Zealand. And it's probably the only place where you will hope for rain when you are there - the waterfalls roar down the glacier-carved cliff faces.
This was my favourite day in New Zealand. The experience of standing out on the boat in the mist, with the rain, and the spilling water from the falls was unreal.
Milford Sound is actually not a sound (river-carved). It was created by glaciers so is in fact a fjord. Most of the waterfalls here are only alive on rainy days. There are only a handful of waterfalls which run permanently from melting glacier ice.

Christchurch New Zealand Botanic Gardens
Guy picked us up at the airport for our drive to the George Hotel. He showed us the location of the museum and the Christchurch Botanic Gardens near our hotel. He informed us that the Christchurch New Zealand Botanic Gardens is one of the best in the world. After we checked into our hotel we walked to the few blocks and were thoroughly amazed. Guy was correct, it was one of the best Gardens that we have ever been in.

In a loop of the Avon River, bordered on three sides by the green expanse of Hagley Park, are the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. With more than one and a half million recorded visits each year, the Gardens are one of the city’s most visited public facilities.
The Gardens are at the heart of Christchurch’s reputation as the Garden City. A temperate climate supports many thousands of plants, gathered from around the world and across New Zealand since 1863.
You will see exotic trees here that are some of the largest, the tallest or the oldest of their kind in this country. You will see spectacular colour and form, intriguing artworks, and memorial plantings that celebrate local and international history. Introduced species will remind you of faraway places, and native plants will take you to the bush, the mountains and the wetlands of New Zealand, Aotearoa. And all of this is just 15 minutes from the city centre.
