CONCERNS OVER OYSTER FARMING / KBS뉴스(News)
[Anchor Lead]
When the weather turns chilly, the oyster harvesting season begins in the southern coast of Korea. Oyster farms project good harvests this year as they suffered no damage from typhoons or other natural disasters. However, oyster farmers are worried that their exports to Japan may suffer due to the chilled bilateral relations.
[Pkg]
A seemingly infinite number of oyster farms dot the blue sea. Clusters of huge oysters clinging on to the long ropes are hauled up from 15 meters deep. The ones that have been growing for nearly a year in the clear ocean are stacked high up on the barge.
[Soundbite] PARK CHANG-HEE(OYSTER FARMER) : The water temperature was just right and there were ample nutrients. So we have oysters twice as large than last year.
This oyster harvest is expected to be larger than those of previous years since oyster farms suffered no typhoon damage and the crops are good. The freshly caught oysters are brought to the workshop. There's still some time left until the peak kimchi-making season, when oysters are in high demand, but workers cannot rest as orders are already pouring in from large retailers. The National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives held the year's first oyster bidding to begin retail sales. The wholesale price of oysters this year is about 70,000 won per 10 kilograms, some 10% lower than last year. As Japan is one of Korea's largest fisheries export destinations, local fishermen are concerned that outbound shipments may be impacted by the ongoing bilateral trade conflict.
[Soundbite] JI HONG-TAE(OYSTER FARMERS ASSOCIATION) : I'm very worried about exports to Japan. We plan to diversify our export markets and expand to China, Russia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Oyster harvest in the south coast will continue until next June.

Visit Yichang, China: The ho-hum Ramada Hotel
Compared to all the modern, gorgeous hotels stayed in to this point, the Ramada was a big disappointment. As much as I try not to, travel can't help but be a comparison -- particularly when a person stays in one hotel after another. Personnel is good. However, the hotel itself (including breakfast) is nothing special.

Pearl River Delta
The Pearl River Delta, Zhujiang Delta or Zhusanjiao in Guangdong province, China is the low-lying area surrounding the Pearl River estuary where the Pearl River flows into the South China Sea. It is one of the most densely urbanised regions in the world and one of the main hubs of China's economic growth. This region is often considered an emerging megacity. The PRD is a megalopolis, with future development into a single mega metropolitan area, yet itself is at the southern end of a larger megalopolis running along the southern coast of China, which include large metropolises like Chaoshan, Zhangzhou-Xiamen, Quanzhou-Putian, and Fuzhou. The nine largest cities of PRD had a combined population of 57.15 million at the end of 2013, however their annual population growth rate is modest at 0.45%, comprising 53.69% of the provincial population. This sharply contrasts with the previous decade's migrant population boom, and reflects the rising cost of migrant labor and changes to the value chain. According to the World Bank Group, the PRD has become the largest urban area in the world in both size and population.

Guangzhou Mainland China pearl river delta
The Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region (PRD, 珠江三角洲都會區), also known as Zhujiang Delta, Zhusanjiao or Greater Bay Area (粤港澳大灣區), is the low-lying area surrounding the Pearl River estuary, where the Pearl River flows into the South China Sea. It is one of the most densely urbanized regions in the world. This region was also the source of much Chinese emigration from the 19th to the mid 20th centuries, including to the Western world, such as the US, Canada, Australia, Latin America, and much of Southeast Asia, where they formed many Chinatowns. Today, much of the Chinese diaspora traces their ancestry to this region. Its dominant language is Cantonese.
This region is often considered an emerging megacity. The PRD is a megalopolis, with future development into a single mega metropolitan area, yet itself is at the southern end of a larger megalopolis running along the southern coast of China, which include metropolises such as Chaoshan, Zhangzhou-Xiamen, Quanzhou-Putian and Fuzhou. The nine largest cities of PRD had a combined population of 57.15 million at the end of 2013, comprising 53.69% of the provincial population.[1] According to the World Bank Group, the PRD has become the largest urban area in the world in both size and population.[2] The metropolitan region consists of one metropolitan area known as the Yuegang'ao Greater Bay Area or Guangdong—Hong Kong—Macau Greater Bay Area. On 7 December 2016, in the English version of the 13th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China translated by the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau of China, the concept of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (粵港澳大灣區) was mentioned.[3] On 13 April 2017, the heading of a piece of news released at the English.gov.cn website of the State Council adopted the name Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Bay Area, and mentioned in the text of the same news that it is also known as Greater Bay Area.[4] After a few months, on 1 July 2017, the Framework Agreement on Deepening Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Cooperation in the Development of the Bay Area (深化粵港澳合作 推進大灣區建設框架協議) was signed in Hong Kong.

China’s Digital Currency Claims to Have 220,000 Transactions-Per-Second
Reported today on Being Crypto
For the full article visit:
China is looking to use a blockchain-based digital currency to surpass the U.S. dollar in global dominance. However, its claimed transaction speed is raising eyebrows.
An arms race of stablecoins will soon be upon us as the geopolitical climate heats up. With China committing itself to blockchain development, it is accelerating its work on its planned digital currency. According to Cai Yin, a blockchain veteran based in Shanghai, a war of crypto tokens will break out next year.
Plans to Onboard Two Billion People
A state-backed digital currency will only be able to effectively replace current payment networks if it can scale. China's digital currency (DCEP) claims to solve this problem, but it's unclear how true this is.
According to Yang Wang, a senior research fellow with the Fintech Institute of Renmin University of China, the DCEP has a peak transaction-per-second (TPS) speed of 220,000. It should be noted that PayPal has just a 40,000 TPS and the Libra has a claimed 1,000 TPS, by comparison.
According to Yang, this is evidence that China's digital currency dreams might become a reality. However, claimed TPS is different in theory than in practice. The plan is, nonetheless, ambitious.
Yang claims that China can draw about 2B international users to its digital currency in just the first phase. Southeast Asia and those along the Belt and Road Initiative will be encouraged to use the new payment channel.
China: Reducing Gaps Between the Dollar and the Yuan
However, China also plans to leverage its national coin to reduce usage gaps between the yuan and the U.S. dollar.
The country already has a blockchain trade finance platform led by the People's Bank of China. As BeInCrypto reported on in July 2019, the platform has already processed $4.4B in foreign transactions
