10 MUST-DO THINGS Mie prefecture Japan |三重県・伊勢の旅
One of my favorite travel spots in Japan is the Mie prefecture, specifically ISE city. It has the Ise Jingu, the Ise Shine which is one of the most important shrines of Japan as it says Amaterasu lives there. But there are more fun things to do in that area so here is a list of must-do and must-see things in ISE.

BEST THINGS TO DO IN MIE PREFECTURE: SAMPLE ITINERARY
Outside Japan, when people hear Kansai, the first prefectures that come to mind are Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara. They are the holy trinity of Kansai tourism. And it’s not difficult at all to see why. The trio offers a perfect blend of modernity, heritage, and entertainment.
But Kansai is more than just these tourism powerhouses. The region is made up seven amazing prefectures, each with something unique and fascinating to offer to curious travelers. One of them is Mie.

Mikimoto Pearl Island (御木本真珠島), Toba City, Mie Prefecture, Japan
Mikimoto Pearl Island (御木本真珠島), known as The Home of the Cultured Pearls is located south of Nagoya City, in Toba, Mie Prefecture, Japan.
Mikimoto Pearl Island is the home of the Mikimoto pearl. Pearls were cultured successfully for the first time in history in 1893 using a method developed by Kokichi Mikimoto.
The surroundings of the Island have a Kokichi Mikimoto Memorial Hall, Pearl Plaza (shop), a demonstration of how the women divers were used many years ago to dive for pearls and a GREAT pearl museum. All these are surrounded by a beautiful Ise Shima Bay.
In my opinion the Pearl Museum is the best, it explains how cultured pearls are made and how the natural pearls are made. They also have a some great collections of pearls from all over the pearl producing nations. The video inside the museum is not great but I highly recommend all of you to visit the museum and take it all in.
The Pearl Plaza has some REALLY expensive jewellery made with pearls but it also has some great inexpensive items (not jewellery but small boxes, toys etc.) made with pearls.
Hope you get a chance to visit Toba City and the Mikimoto Pearl Island in your travels in Japan. Enjoy!!!!
JR Iseshi Station (JR 伊勢市駅), Iseshi City, Mie Prefecture, Japan
JR Iseshi station (伊勢市駅) is located in Mie Prefecture, about two hours train ride from JR Nagoya Station (名古屋駅).
JR Iseshi station is the gateway for the Ise-Shima National Park. The park has extensive views of Ise bay and also has Ise Jingu Shrine. Ise Jingu shrine is one of the most important shrines of Japan.
Even though Iseshi station is small, it hosts millions of visitors every year, both visiting the Ise-Shima national park and the Ise Jingu Shrine.
Enjoy..

SATOUMI - Ago Bay-Shima City, Mie Prefecture, Japan
The diverse aquaculture of Japan's Ago Bay has evolved from a pearl culture tradition seeded more than a century ago. But as the scale of pearl culture and aquaculture has increased, so have negative impacts such as coastal land development.
Faced with ecosystem degradation and ebbing marine resources, the Ago Bay community has embraced a successful satoumi approach to revive scientific understanding of the Bay that promotes economic and ecosystem sustainability (satoumi is defined as marine and coastal landscapes that have been formed and maintained by prolonged interaction between humans and ecosystems).
Ago Bay, located in Mie Prefecture in Central Japan, is a typical enclosed coastal sea with a complex 'ria' coastline of submerged coastal river valleys forming a fingered bay of inlets and islands. The Bay is central to Ise-Shima National Park, which, because of its scenic beauty, valuable natural endowments and long cultural history, was the first national park to be established in Japan.
Historically, the Ago Bay area was known as Miketsu-kuni, a name that reflected its special status as a source of food, particularly marine products, for the Imperial Court and Ise Shrine, one of Japan's most revered and ancient Shinto shrines. Today, Ago Bay's calm seascape and rich marine heritage imbues the local community with an innate sense of stewardship rooted in Japan's traditional satoumi.

アキーラさんお薦め!三重・パールロード!Pearl-road,Mie-prefecture,Japan
I went to Ise-Shima-area in Mie prefecture,Japan about 9years ago by my car. I used the pearl-road before. I could enjoy the good ocean view then.
I decided to use the road again because of the reason above. This road was made in 1970`S and till 2006 it`s not free, but became free road after2006.
The distance is 18.3km. Mikimoto-pearl that is famous in the world produced in this area.
I can recommend you to use this road when you come to Mie.
