Hippos invade village in Rubirizi district
A herd of hippopotamus has strayed from Queen Elizabeth National Park and invaded a creator lake in Rubirizi district.
Kyamwiga Creator Lake situated in near homes around katerera and Kirugu sub-counties is a source of water for over 5000 people living in the area. Nyakagyezi village LC1 chairman Abdul Nulu Kasule says the hippos have created a state of fear among residents who have to be indoor as early as 7.00pm when the animals move out of the water and move about in search of pasture.

Uganda's Transparent Lake that heals Gonorrhoea
Yap, you read it right. Hidden about 2KMs in Katsyoha-Kitomi Central Forest Reserve in western Uganda, Lake Kamunzuku gets its name from a sexually transmitted disease, gonorrhea. In the local language, the disease is called “Nzuku”.
Stories have it that in the early days, bathing the lake would cure one of the disease.
The lake is well positioned in the forest where it harbors different bird species such as ducks, fish eagle and other wild animals like chimpanzees, baboons, calabash monkeys, velvet monkeys, red barks, forest pigs, monitor lizards and many others animals which are not in most other lakes in Uganda.
If you want to visit Lake Kamunzuku, there are two routes; Kampala to Kasese through Fort Portal and then from Kasese to Rubirizi.
In Rubirizi get to Kichwamba where the crater lakes are located.
Or, you go through Mbarara then Bushenyi, from Bushenyi you go to Kichwamba.

RUBIRIZI NEWS TALK ABOUT MARRIAGE
Edenians learning how salt is extracted from lake katwe - Part 1
Salt has been extracted from Lake Katwe, in Uganda's Rift Valley, for centuries. Women sift the crusted salt from the surface, men shovel it up from the bottom of pools separated by wooden walkways. The entire village depends on the lake; it is brutal work but has made it a centre of trade since the 1600s.

Uganda's poor are braving salty, flesh-scarring water to make a meager living mining salt at Lake Katwe. Experts say chemicals in the lake are clearly unhealthy but the Ugandan government is not studying the risks. (Oct. 28)
