LaNana Creek Part 2
THE LANANA CREEK TRAIL
The LaNana Creek Trail began as a project of Nacogdoches Texas Sesquicentennial in
1966. The purpose was to construct a 2-1/2 mile hiking-biking path extending from Main Street north to
East Austin Street. The Sesquicentennial Committee's plan was to preserve, beautify, and utilize the flood banks of LaNana Creek for the people of Nacogdoches, and to leave the LaNana Creek Trail as a lasting remembrance of Texas 150th birthday.
The trail was once a pathway for Nacogdoches Indians, a tribe of the Caddo Confederacy who
Who lived on the high ground between LaNana and Banita creeks. Nacogdoches means The place that is high in the Caddo language. Spanish colonials walked the trail along the creek and built their town of Nacogdoches between the two creeks. The trail is now in the most historic area of old Nacogdoches. Near the beginning of The Trail is Camino Real Park are the homes of Haden Edwards and Adolphus Sterne, the New Orleans Greys' campground, Oak Grove Cemetery, Zion Hill Cemetery, and the Holy Springs of Father Margil.
The LaNana Creek Trail runs north from Camino Real through Margil Park and the Eyes of Father Margil. The trail follows LaNana Creek through Pecan Acres Park to the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. The SFA Mast Arboretum and Tucker Woods are on university land. The trail ends in the north at Jimmy Hinds Park on East Austin Street.
LaNana Creek Trail was cleared and constructed by volunteers under committee guidance of F.E. Abernathy, Chairman Archie McDonald, John Anderson, and Carroll Schoenewolf.

Southland Men's Cross Country Championship Highlights
Watch replay of live stream:
Lamar men won their fourth straight Southland championship while Stephen F. Austin women comfortably won their eighth team title in history on their home course of Pecan Acres Park in Nacogdoches.
Senior Charles Mathenge of Stephen F. Austin left nothing to chance after finishing as runner-up in last year’s championship. By the midway point of the Friday’s eight-kilometer men’s race, he had carved out a comfortable lead for himself and now looks primed to chase his third-straight NCAA championship appearance. The Nairobi, Kenya native crossed the line with a final time of 24:11.8, followed closest by junior Frederico Gasbarri of Lamar (24:20.1). Both led the way to strong top-four finishes for their teams, with redshirt freshman Brandt Preston of SFA in third-place and senior Tobias Riker of Lamar in fourth.
However, when the points were tallied, it was another exceptional Cardinal men’s team performance, as Lamar took home their tenth team championship in 11 seasons. Five Cardinal athletes finished in the top 20 to pace their team to a first-place team finish (43 points) followed by Stephen F. Austin (62 points) and McNeese (68 points).

SUMMARY
=======
San Antonio (; from Spanish, Saint Anthony), officially the City of San Antonio, has more than 1.5 million residents. It is the seventh-most populous city in the United States, and the second-most populous city in both Texas and the Southern United States. Founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718, the city became the first chartered civil settlement in present-day Texas in 1731. The area was still part of the Spanish Empire, and later of the Mexican Republic. Today it is the state's oldest municipality. The city's deep history is contrasted with its rapid recent growth during the past few decades: it was the fastest-growing of the top ten largest cities in the United States from 2000 to 2010, and the second from 1990 to 2000. Straddling the regional divide between South and Central Texas, San Antonio anchors the southwestern corner of an urban megaregion colloquially known as the Texas Triangle.
San Antonio serves as the seat of Bexar County; recent annexations have extended the city's boundaries into Medina County and, for a tiny area near the city of Garden Ridge, into Comal County. Since San Antonio was founded during the Spanish Colonial Era, it has a church (San Fernando Cathedral) in its center, on the main civic plaza in front, a characteristic of many Spanish-founded cities, towns, and villages in Spain and Latin America. As with many other urban centers in the Southwestern United States, areas outside the city limits are sparsely populated.
San Antonio is the center of the San Antonio–New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area. Commonly called Greater San Antonio, the metro area has a population of 2,473,974 based on the 2017 U.S. census estimate, making it the 24th-largest metropolitan area in the United States and third-largest in Texas. Growth along the Interstate 35 and Interstate 10 corridors to the north, west and east make it likely that the metropolitan area will continue to expand.
San Antonio was named by a 1691 Spanish expedition for Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is June 13. The city contains five 18th-century Spanish frontier missions, including The Alamo and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, which together were designated UNESCO World Heritage sites in 2015. Other notable attractions include the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, SeaWorld, the Alamo Bowl, and Marriage Island. Commercial entertainment includes Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Morgan's Wonderland amusement parks. According to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, the city is visited by about 32 million tourists a year. It is hom ...
