NM True TV - Hiking Jack's Creek in the Pecos
Exercise, fresh air, stunning views, ample wildlife, and the opportunity to bring out your cellphone only to take pictures might sound like a deal that is too good to be true, unless you are hiking in one of New Mexico’s wilderness areas. In this case that magic combination came together for the NM True Crew along Jack’s Creek in the Pecos Wilderness. And they are kind enough to take us along on the their walk.

NM True TV - Pecos River Fly Fishing
You could call it the best fly fishing on either side of the Pecos, since you’re casting your flies while standing in the river’s bubbling mountain water. Michael and the NM True Crew find they like the area almost as much as the fish seem to. In this case the fun of the fishing might actually distract your attention from the beauty that surrounds you.

The PALS History - Clothing 2200
The history and development of the Phillips Arctic Living System (PALS). This story and the experiences of Jim Phillips' playing, working and living in the cold spans the period form 1957 to the present. It all began in 1957 with the first snow camp at Hyde Park in the Sangre De Cristo mountains east of Santa Fe, New Mexico. From there the winter adventures included Lake Katherine, Pecos Baldy and the Truchas Divide in the Pecos Wilderness and on to winter camps at Wolf Creek Pass, Colorado, Mt. Washington, New Hampshire and many other cold places in the lower 48. The ultimate snow camps began in 1968 as winter trips for weeks above the Arctic Circle in both the Alaskan and Canadian Arctic.
Jim's training of others on the PALS approach has included all branched of the U.S. military and thousands of individuals and families in hundreds of classes all across the United States and Canada. He even trained James Lovell (commander of Apollo 13) for his private North Pole adventure in 1987.
Jim teaches hundreds of people Winter Without Worries™ in classrooms and takes others into the winter wilderness in his SnoCollege™ field classes. You can learn about these in the You Tube video A Winter Without Worries Experience, on JimsWay.com and SafeHarborAlliance.com.
Pecos, New Mexico - In Memory of the Crypto Jews
© (2015) Photographs by Shoshana Avigail
Music by Pharaoh's Daughter - Hagar
Whenever I'm in northern New Mexico I can't help but be reminded of all of the lives that were lost between 400 - 500 years ago. Not only were the native Americans slaughtered by the Spanish, yet also Jews who were in hopes of escaping the Spanish Inquisition. Unfortunately, the conquistador followed them into Mexico and throughout the Southwest of the United States, leaving Jews no other option but to go into hiding and or convert. There are so many New Mexicans who have no clue that their ancestors were Jewish.

Gila National Forest Overland Trip
The Gila National Forest and Wilderness Area in western New Mexico offers one of the best back country roads experiences that is available in the southwest United States. The wildlife is so abundant in this very well maintained and protected forest system. With it being so dry and the roads so well maintained, we didn't require 4x4 this time but we now know where to go for that type of experience in the future. Having been in the spring and fall, we found the fall season to be much greener and vibrant.
With the Mogollon winter gate still being closed, we went in through Reserve which actually turned out to be to our benefit. We were only in the pines for an hour and we were able to see elk, an owl and a bobcat all just before a beautiful sunset way up high in the pines. We had to help a forest employee who broke down deep in the woods. Hope all is good Amy. We stayed at Snow Lake Friday, a quiet lake on Saturday and south to Black Canyon on Sunday. We encountered 2 small twisters that were quite fun, one on the video and one on foot that hurt a little. We found a new waterfall and hiking area along the route as well. I have to say this area does have the most wildlife I have ever scene in one small area. Best bang for your buck in the southwest.
As always thank you for watching and sharing with your friends.

Pecos National Park | 10,000 years of history
Pecos - A cultural crossroads. For over 10,000 years this landscape has been the backdrop for Pueblo and Plains Indians, Spanish conquerors and missionaries, Mexican and Anglo armies, and settlers traveling the Santa Fe Trail. Deserted since 1838, all that remains of this vibrant pueblo are remains of the foundations, a few kivas and the Franciscan mission.
