Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary headquartered in Peechi, Thrissur District of Kerala, India. The sanctuary was established in 1958 consisting of Palappilli- Nelliyampathi forests including the area of Chimmony Wildlife sanctuary and is the second oldest sanctuary in Kerala. Having an abundance of enchanting flora and fauna and a lake where you can go boating, this place is a treat for the nature lover. There are more than 50 different kinds of orchids, innumerable rare medicinal plants, teak, rosewood, and so on. The faunal diversity includes over 25 species of mammals including carnivores like the leopard, tiger, jungle cat and herbivores like the Sambar deer, barking deer, spotted deer, Indian bison and Asian elephant. More than 100 species of birds and several species of snakes and lizards are also found here. The highest peak in the sanctuary is the 923 m high Ponmudi.
Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary
The Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary in Thrissur district is a good spot for nature lovers.
Established in 1958, this 125 sq km sanctuary is about 20 km east of Thrissur, in the catchment area of the Peechi and Vazhani dams. The sanctuary is part of the Palapilli-Nelliampathy forests and forms the Northern boundary of the Chimmini Sanctuary.
Having an abundance of enchanting flora and fauna and a lake where you can go boating, this place is a treat for the nature lover. There are more than 50 different kinds of orchids, innumerable rare medicinal plants, teak, rosewood, and so on. The faunal diversity includes over 25 species of mammals including carnivores like the leopard, tiger, jungle cat and herbivores like the Sambar deer, barking deer, spotted deer, Indian bison and Asian elephant. More than 100 species of birds and several species of snakes and lizards are also found here.

CHIMMINI DAM & Wildlife Sanctuary/Thrissur/Kerala
Established in 1984, the sanctuary with an area of about 85.067 km2 is on the Western slopes of the Nelliyampathi Hills. The highest peak in the sanctuary is Punda peak (1116 m). Along with the neighboring Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary it forms a continuous protected area of 210 km2. It also lies just west of Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, providing some habitat connectivity with the forests of that relatively large protected area. The sanctuary consists of the watershed areas of Kurumali River and Mupliam rivers. Nestled in the sanctuary is Chimmony Dam which is built across the Chimmony river.
Chimmini Dam is situated in Echippara in Chalakudy taluk of Thrissur District of Kerala state of India. The dam was completed in 1996. It is constructed across Kurumali river, a tributary of Karuvannur river.[1]Chimmony is the largest dam of Thrissur district

Peechi Dam lies at a distance of 23 km from Thrissur. The dam is the main irrigation project of this town of Kerala. It is a very famous attraction, and visitors come here now and then for the fantastic picnic spot it serves as and for the boating facilities which are offered at this reservoir. One can also come across Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary here which is a must-visit place for the nature-lovers. The dam is constructed across the Manali River.
The dam is spread across an area of 3200 acres. When it was completely built in 1957, it could irrigate up to 17555 Ha of land present in Mukundapuram, Thrissur, Thalappally and Chavakkad Taluk. Peechi Dam also supplies drinking water to the town of Thrissur.
Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary situated near the dam is worth paying a visit. It was built in 1958 and covers an area of 125 square km. It is home to a variety of flora and fauna. Ponmudi with a height of about 923 m is the highest peak in the sanctuary and experiences an average rainfall of about 3000 mm.
Peechi Dam and Gardens visiting time is from 8.00am to 6.30pm on all days of the week. Peechi Dam Fountain show on all Sundays and second Saturday of the month from 6.30 pm to 6.45 pm. Description: Peechi dam which is located about 21 km from Thrissur Swaraj round is an ideal picnic spot for all age groups.
കേരളത്തിലെ ഒരു മേജർ ഇറിഗേഷൻ പ്രോജക്ട് എന്ന നിലയിലാണ് 1957 ഒക്ടോബർ നാലിന് കേരള ഗവർണർ ബി. രാമകൃഷ്ണറാവു രാജ്യത്തിന് സമർപ്പിച്ചത്.കരുവന്നൂർ പുഴയുടെ പോഷകനദിയായ മണലിപ്പുഴയുടെ കുറുകെയാണ് പീച്ചി അണക്കെട്ട് നിർമിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്. ഈ ജലസേചനപദ്ധതിയുപയോഗിച്ച് ഏകദേശം 17,555 ഹെക്ടർ പ്രദേശത്ത് ജലസേചനം സാധ്യമാക്കുക്കുന്നു. പ്രധാനമായും മുകുന്ദപുരം, തലപ്പിള്ളി, തൃശ്ശൂർ, ചാവക്കാട് താലൂക്കുകളിലെ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലേക്ക് വിവിധ കനാലുകൾവഴി ജലമെത്തിക്കുന്നു.ജില്ലാ അതിർത്തിയായ വാണിയംപാറ വരെ ജലം വ്യാപിച്ചു കിടക്കുന്നു.

രാവിലെ 8 മുതൽ വൈകിട്ട് 6 വരെയാണ് പ്രവേശനസമയം. 20 രൂപയാണ് പ്രവേശന നിരക്ക്. കുട്ടികൾക്ക് 10 രൂപ.
എത്തിച്ചേരാനുള്ള വഴി
തൃശ്ശൂരിൽനിന്ന് പാലക്കാട് ദേശീയപാതയിലൂടെ 13 കി.മീ. സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ പീച്ചിറോഡ് ജങ്ഷനിലെത്തും. അവിടെനിന്ന് 8 കി.മീറ്റർ തെക്കോട്ടു പോയാൽ ഇവിടെയെത്താം. തൃശ്ശൂർ ശക്തൻ ബസ്സ്റ്റാൻഡിൽനിന്ന് പീച്ചി ഡാമിലേക്ക് നേരിട്ട് ബസ് സർവീസുണ്ട്. രാവിലെ 7 മുതൽ രാത്രി 9 മണിവരെ പത്തുമിനിറ്റ് ഇടവേളകളിൽ ബസുകളുണ്ട്. പാലക്കാട് നിന്നും വരുന്ന സഞ്ചാരികൾക്ക് പട്ടിക്കാട് നിന്ന് പീച്ചിയിലേക്ക് ബസ് കിട്ടും. സഞ്ചാരികൾക്കുള്ള ഭക്ഷണസൗകര്യം പീച്ചി ഗസ്റ്റ് ഹൗസിൽ ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പകൽസമയം തങ്ങുന്നതിനുള്ള സൗകര്യവും ഗസ്റ്റ് ഹൗസിലുണ്ട്. 300 രൂപയാണ് പ്രതിദിനവാടക. രാത്രിയിൽ താമസസൗകര്യം ലഭ്യമല്ല.

Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary
The dense tropical forests of Chimmini (Chimmony), shelter diverse flora and fauna. The dam across the Chimmini river offers a breathtaking view. This picturesque picnic spot is a favourite haunt of the local people. Located in the Mukundapuram Taluk of Thrissur district, Chimmini is only a two-hour drive from Kochi.
The Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary which was established in 1984, lies contiguous with the Peechi - Vazhani sanctuary. The sanctuary is endowed with scenic beauty beyond compare. Living here in joyful abandon are elephants, sambars, gaurs, Malabar squirrels, sloth bears etc.
The forest department organises trekking and bamboo rafting programmes in and around the sanctuary. But the best of all experiences is the Moonlight Sonata, which involves rafting on full moon lights.
