Howzit Buddies!
We spent an incredible morning out with Namibia Kayak Tours. They offer a half day, Eco Friendly, kayaking experience with the Cape Fur Seals and when the season is right dolphins, whales and the illusive Mola-Mola (Sunfish) make an appearance.
With no prior experience required, both young and old can benefit from this excursion of a lifetime.
The kayaking itself is not very strenuous, and you get to spend a good hour or so paddling among the seal colony and experience a very personal, up-close interaction on a natural basis.
The seals can be very curious and will approach the kayaks at times which is truly a unique experience. If you love animals, this tour is a definite must if you're in the Swakopmund/Walvis Bay area.

Kayaking with sea lions in Walvis Bay (Namibia 2017)
From Walvis Bay, you can reach by 4x4 Pelican Point, where you can find several colonies of sea lions. One of the greatest activities you can do here is kayaking in the sea, with a huge amount of sea lions surrounding you and trying to beat your oars.

Amazing Nature
Seal Colony in Pelican Point, Namibia
We saw this incredible colony of 30,000 seals in Pelican Point on Walvis Bay, Namibia. It's a sandbar that seems to extend forever. There are no great white sharks in the area, so the only area predator is the jackal. The seals probably kill more of their own pups than the jackals, however. They are smelly, noisy and their fight for dominance can be brutal. But the winning male in the fights for dominance gets his territory along with up to 70 female seals.

Swakopmund & Walvis Bay - Pelican Point / Namibia 2015 - Part II
Swakopmund & Walvis Bay - Pelican Point Video Highlights;
Swakopmund (German for Mouth of the Swakop) is a city on the coast of Namibia, 360 km west of Windhoek, Namibia's capital. The city is situated in the Namib desert.
Swakopmund is a beach resort and an example of German colonial architecture. It was founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South-West Africa, and a sizable part of its population is still German-speaking today.
Buildings in the city include the the Woermann Haus, built in 1906 with a prominent tower, is now a public library.
Attractions in Swakopmund include a Swakopmund Museum, the National Marine Aquarium, a crystal gallery and spectacular sand dunes near Long Beach south of the Swakop River.
The Herero people called the place Otjozondjii. The name of the town is derived from the Nama word Tsoakhaub (excrement opening) describing the Swakop River in flood carrying items in its riverbed, including dead animals, into the Atlantic Ocean. The German settlers changed it to Swachaub, and when in 1896 the district was officially proclaimed, the version Swakopmund (German: Mouth of the Swakop) was introduced.
Captain Curt von François founded Swakopmund in 1892 as the main harbour for the Imperial German colony. The deep sea harbour at Walvis Bay belonged to the British. The founding date was on August 8 when the crew of gunboat Hyäne (Hyena) erected two beacons on the shore. Swakopmund was chosen for its availability of fresh water, and because other sites further north such as Cape Cross were found unsuitable. The site did, however, not offer any natural protection to ships lying off the coast, a geographical feature not often found along Namibia's coast.
When the first 120 Schutztruppe soldiers and 40 settlers were offloaded at Swakopmund, they had to dig caves into the sand for shelter.
Walvis Bay, (pronounced Walfish Bay) meaning Whale Bay in Afrikaans is a place of rare beauty and windswept dunes, stark landscapes and jagged coastlines - a world of untamed natural beauty - this is Walvis Bay, the main harbour of Namibia.
Walvis Bay's rich natural resources and strategic location provide the basis for tourism and industrial development. On the landward side, Walvis Bay is enclosed by 23 000 square km of conservation area that includes high dunes, wetlands and Kuiseb River delta.
The Lagoon at Wallis Bay is the largest single area of shallow water on the west coast of Africa. This tranquil stretch of water with its natural beauty is accentuated by thousands of flamingos and other birds. The Lagoon is regarded as one of the most important areas for coastal birds and the best flamingo viewing locality in the world.
Sandwich Harbour is located 48 km to the south of Walvis Bay, Sandwich Harbour is a spectacular and photo-worthy destination. Sought after by anglers, ornithologists and nature lovers, the lagoon was once an open bay, which silted up over the years. The lagoon is fed by fresh water seeping from inland aquifers, and is a sanctuary for large numbers of coastal and fresh water birds. As you can observe in the video a 4x4 vehicle are needed to visit Sandwich Harbour.

Kayaking with seals in Namibia
Kayaking amongst thousands of seals along the Atlantic coast was one of our highlights in Namibia. We drove from Swakopmund to Walvis Bay, where we were picked up by our guide and driven to the Pelican point in a 4x4 decked with kayaks. The seals were playful and loved all the attention from us. They would swim next to us unwavering, jumping and splashing water. What a fun experience!
