Pemi River Floods - October 2017
Drone footage of flooding on the Pemigewasset River and its tributaries (the Mad River and Baker River) on October 30, 2017 due to torrential rainfall the night before.
The swamped BMW shown at the end of the video happened just before I got there. The occupants were a very young couple who intentionally drove into the floodwaters because the water was lower then and they thought they could make it across. They were safe with the wrecker when I arrived. After I showed the wrecker driver where the car was located using the drone he called his boss and decided to leave it until the water receded instead of attempting a recovery.
The guy driving his pickup truck on the train tracks towards the end of the video was also not trying to escape rising flood waters, it was just a guy with his whole family in the car screwing around. He had intentionally driven into the flooded section just before I got there (despite the wrecker driver and DOT road crew telling him not to) and the video is of him coming back after he got turned around by the fire department at the other end of the flooded section.
Just before I left another DOT crew showed up to change the Road Flooded sign to Road Closed in an attempt to further discourage people from trying to drive through.
As far as I know, all the other semi trailers that pop up throughout the video were parked there before the flooding.
Power in Campton and Thornton was out from about 12:30am on Monday through 3:30pm on Tuesday.

Due to heavy rain and warmth in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Pemigewasset River in Plymouth, New Hampshire rose from its typical 3' level to a crest of 16.42' which inundated NH State Road 175A and Plymouth State University's Ice Arena parking lot.
Swimming in the River along the Kancamagus Highway
My daughter and her friend enjoyed swimming and relaxing in the East Branch Pemigewasset River that runs near the Lincoln Woods trail.
This is the same area I describe in my Mt. Pemigewasset Hiking video. There is a campground trail on one side of the river and a hiking/biking/walking trail on the other side of the river.

Anyway, at noon today, we went to the Lost River Falls to go cliff jumping into the river pool below ... what a neat place! Now the wedding, this afternoon, the reason we came here :-)
