South Wales, Wales, United Kingdom, Europe
South Wales is that region of Wales bordered by England and the Bristol Channel to the east and south, and Mid Wales and West Wales to the north and west. The most densely populated region in the south-west of the United Kingdom, it is home to around 2.2 million people and includes the capital city of Cardiff (population approximately 350,000), as well as Swansea and Newport, with populations approximately 170,000 and 150,000, respectively. It contains about three-quarters of the Welsh population.[citation needed] The Brecon Beacons national park covers about a third of South Wales, containing Pen y Fan, the highest mountain south of Snowdonia. The extent of the region is loosely defined, but it is generally considered to be the area surrounding the M4 motorway, including the historic counties of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire and sometimes extending westwards to include Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. In the western extent, from Swansea westwards, local people would probably recognise that they lived in both South Wales and in West Wales there is considerable overlap in these somewhat artificial boundaries. Areas to the north of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains are generally considered part of Mid Wales. The language of the majority of people in South Wales is English, but there are also many who speak Welsh. In western parts of Glamorgan, particularly the Neath and Swansea Valleys, there remain significant Welsh-speaking communities such as Ystradgynlais and Ystalyfera, which share a heritage with the fellow ex-anthracite mining areas of eastern Carmarthenshire, as much as with the Glamorgan valleys. The local slang, dialect and phrases of the South Wales Valleys communities have been referred to as 'Wenglish', and are often used with comic effect. The dialect is found also in such coastal towns as Barry, as featured in the BBC hit comedy series Gavin and Stacey. Compared with such regional English dialects as those of Yorkshire, the local speech seems to be very little studied or appreciated. Welsh is now a compulsory language up to GCSE level for all students who start their education in Wales. This has meant that the strength of the language, as a second language, has increased considerably in the last twenty years. Several secondary schools offering Welsh medium education operate in this area, for example Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari in Pontyclun, Ysgol Gyfun Y Cymmer in Porth in the Rhondda, Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun in Penywaun in the Cynon Valley, Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw in Pontypool, Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni in Blackwood, Ysgol Gymraeg Plasmawr in Cardiff and Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg in Church Village. A significant number of people from ethnic minority communities speak another language as their first language, particularly in Cardiff and Newport. Commonly spoken languages in some areas include Punjabi, Bengali, Arabic, Somali and Chinese, and increasingly Central European languages such as Polish. The traditional pastimes of the area include rugby and music. Today music ranges from the traditional Welsh Male Voice choirs of the Valleys such as Treorchy Male Choir to the South Wales hardcore scene which plays a dominant role in the Cardiff music scene. Bands such as Lostprophets, Bullet for My Valentine, Feeder, Stereophonics, Manic Street Preachers, Funeral for a Friend, The Automatic, Skindred, Foreign Legion, Kids In Glass Houses, The Blackout and Man Without Country all come from the South Wales area. In the 19th and early 20th centuries there was a vigorous literary and musical culture centred round eisteddfodau. Despite a few timid attempts to emulate this literature in English, it can be argued that few writers seem to connect with either the landscape or the literary tradition. The one exception, to some extent, can be considered to be Dylan Thomas. The South Wales Valleys and upland mountain ridges were once a very rural area of great natural beauty, noted for its river valleys and ancient forests and lauded by romantic poets such as William Wordsworth as well as poets in the Welsh language, although the interests of the latter lay more in society and culture than in the evocation of natural scenery. This natural beauty changed to a considerable extent during the early Industrial Revolution when the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire valley areas were exploited for coal and iron. By the 1830s, hundreds of tons of coal were being transported by barge to ports in Cardiff and Newport. In the 1870s, coal was transported by railway networks to Newport Docks, at the time the largest coal exporting docks in the world, and by the 1880s coal was being exported from Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan. The Marquess of Bute, who owned much of the land north of Cardiff, built a steam railway system on his land that stretched from Cardiff into many of the South Wales Valleys where the coal was being found. Lord Bute then charged taxes per ton of coal that was transported out using his railways.

5 Top-Rated Day Trips from Cardiff, UK
On the southern coast of Wales, Cardiff is the perfect place from which to explore the Welsh countryside. From here, you can access the country's two most important national parks, Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons, the latter less than an hour's drive through stunning scenery (while Snowdonia takes a little longer to access, it is also a must-visit). Other great day trips from Cardiff include exploring the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline and its many pleasant towns, including Carmarthen, the legendary birthplace of Merlin, along with Swansea, one of the busiest cultural centers in the country. Also worth checking out are the many museums dedicated to Wales' industrial past, including the massive Rhondda coal works and the Museum of the Welsh Woolen Industry in Cardigan (and yes, Wales does have a lot of sheep!). Best of all, Wales is such a small country, it's easy to double-up on your day trips, hitting more than one great attraction each time you venture out. Here five day trips from Cardiff, Wales Europe.

Places to see in ( Merthyr Tydfil - UK )
Places to see in ( Merthyr Tydfil - UK )
Merthyr Tydfil is a town in Wales, situated approximately 23 miles north of Cardiff. At one time the largest town in Wales, Merthyr Tydfil is today the country's fourth largest urban area by population. Situated in the historic county of Glamorgan, it is the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough and is administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council. Both the town and the county borough are often referred to as simply 'Merthyr'.
According to legend, the town is named after Saint Tydfil, a daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog. According to her legend, she was slain at Merthyr by pagans around 480; the place was subsequently named Merthyr Tydfil in her honour. Merthyr was regarded as a nonconformist stronghold in the 19th century, but the chapels declined rapidly from the 1920s onwards and most are now closed.
The town has held many cultural events. Local poets and writers hold poetry evenings in the town, and music festivals are organised at Cyfarthfa Castle and Park. With this in mind, Menter Iaith Merthyr Tudful (the Merthyr Tydfil Welsh Language Initiative) has successfully transformed the Zoar Chapel and the adjacent vestry building in Pontmorlais into a community arts venue, Canolfan Soar and Theatr Soar, which run a whole programme of performance events and activities in both Welsh and English, together with a cafe and book shop, specialising in local interest and Welsh language books and CDs.
Also on Pontmorlais, Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association was successful in a number of funding bids to develop the Old Town Hall into a new cultural centre, working in partnership with Canolfan a Theatr Soar to turn the Pontmorlais area into a cultural quarter. The Old Town Hall facility was launched on Saint David's Day 2014. With references to the 1831 Merthyr Rising and the building's red bricks, the venue has been named REDHOUSE – Hen Neuadd Y Dref / Old Town Hall. Merthyr Tydfil College's Arts and Media departments occupy part of the building, holding occasional professional performances at REDHOUSE's Dowlais Theatre and providing opportunities for students to perform dance, musicals, plays, and instrumental and vocal concerts.
The town is in a South Wales Valleys environment just south of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and this, along with its rich history, means it has huge potential for tourism. National Cycle Route 8 passes through the town. The Brecon Mountain Railway is easily accessible by cycle and car. Regular trains operate from Merthyr Tydfil railway station to Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Central. Public transport links to Cardiff are being improved in 2017. Merthyr Tydfil bus station is located to the north of the town centre.
( Merthyr Tydfil - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Merthyr Tydfil . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Merthyr Tydfil - UK

Jamaica's Reggae Girlz will face Panama at the National Stadium on Sunday at 6:00 pm in an international friendly, which serves as a farewell before the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France from June 7 to July 7.
After the match, the squad will depart a day later for a short camp in South Florida, before flying to the United Kingdom for a friendly against Scotland in Edinburgh on May 28.
Jamaica is in Group C of the Women’s World Cup with Brazil, Australia, and Italy.
The Reggae Girlz will begin their World Cup campaign on June 9 against 2007 Women's World Cup runners-up Brazil at the Stade des Alpes in Grenoble.
The Reggae Girlz will return to action on June 14 at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims where they will square off against Italy.
The Jamaicans will then round out their group stage action four days later on June 18 against Australia once again at the Stade des Alpes in Grenoble.
Sunday’s international friendly against Panama comes seven months after Jamaica defeated the Central America team 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in their third-place playoff match at the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship at the Toyota Stadium in Texas to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The qualification was historic as Jamaica became the first Caribbean team to reach the FIFA Women's World Cup.
The historic qualification follows the success of the men’s squad, which participated in the World Cup for the first time in France 1998.
The Jamaica Football Federation had stated that Panama would be fielding the same squad, which played the Reggae Girlz in the deciding Concacaf Women’s Championship on October 17, 2018. However, Panama coach Victor Suárez said he is focussing on building a squad that can qualify for the 2020 FIFA Under-20 Women World Cup.
The Panama squad that arrived in the country on Friday includes Sheyla Diaz, Hilary Jaen, Anuvis Angulo, Maria Montenegro, and Aldrith Quintero – all young players.
Also included are some members of the squad, which played against Jamaica in the deciding World Cup qualifying match. Those players are Erika Hernández, Natalia Mills, Lineth Cedeno, Kenia Rangel, Karia Riley, Marta Cox, and Yomira Pinzon.
“Jamaica are difficult rivals. We came to have a friendly match with them, and we are going to play our hardest and enjoy the game,” said coach Suárez shortly after arriving at the Norman Manley International Airport.
Reggae Girlz head coach, USA-based Hue Menzies wants to give Jamaica a good farewell game before heading off to the World Cup.
Menzies said, “We will play attacking style football and see how fit they (Panama) are. Our transition is important for us and we have some special players we want to showcase, so hopefully, they can turn up and put on a show.”
With the 23-woman World Cup squad still to be named, an interesting game looms as players are still fighting for seats on the plane to France.
Coach Menzies was expected to finalise the World Cup squad earlier this week citing that “we heard some good news just today (Monday) that two of the three players had gotten their international clearance, so based on that, we will be finalising our World Cup squad hopefully within the next 48 hours,” making reference to world governing body, FIFA eligibility rules, which could deny some players born outside of Jamaica to Jamaican parents the chance to represent the country.
Menzies has until May 24 to submit to FIFA his 23-member squad.
The Reggae Girlz will be without a member of the coaching staff for Sunday as assistant coach, Andrew Price has been suspended for two weeks for insubordination. And coach Menzies said that the presence of Price will be missed.
Also missing are a number of crucial players such as Shayla McKoy, Havana Solaun, Jody Brown, Lauren Silver, and Giselle Washington from the World Cup qualifying campaign.
“Obviously we don’t have everybody because of the FIFA window, so they (other players) will join us in Miami, but we feel we have a good pool of players and that’s what we want to create, because after the World Cup we are going to have many things going on so we have to create a pool of players,” said Menzies.

Calling All Cars: Lt. Crowley Murder / The Murder Quartet / Catching the Loose Kid
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is the police department of the city of Los Angeles, California.
The LAPD has been copiously fictionalized in numerous movies, novels and television shows throughout its history. The department has also been associated with a number of controversies, mainly concerned with racial animosity, police brutality and police corruption.
The radio show Calling All Cars hired LAPD radio dispacher Jesse Rosenquist to be the voice of the dispatcher. Rosenquist was already famous because home radios could tune into early police radio frequencies. As the first police radio dispatcher presented to the public ear, his was the voice that actors went to when called upon for a radio dispatcher role.
The iconic television series Dragnet, with LAPD Detective Joe Friday as the primary character, was the first major media representation of the department. Real LAPD operations inspired Jack Webb to create the series and close cooperation with department officers let him make it as realistic as possible, including authentic police equipment and sound recording on-site at the police station.
Due to Dragnet's popularity, LAPD Chief Parker became, after J. Edgar Hoover, the most well known and respected law enforcement official in the nation. In the 1960s, when the LAPD under Chief Thomas Reddin expanded its community relations division and began efforts to reach out to the African-American community, Dragnet followed suit with more emphasis on internal affairs and community policing than solving crimes, the show's previous mainstay.
Several prominent representations of the LAPD and its officers in television and film include Adam-12, Blue Streak, Blue Thunder, Boomtown, The Closer, Colors, Crash, Columbo, Dark Blue, Die Hard, End of Watch, Heat, Hollywood Homicide, Hunter, Internal Affairs, Jackie Brown, L.A. Confidential, Lakeview Terrace, Law & Order: Los Angeles, Life, Numb3rs, The Shield, Southland, Speed, Street Kings, SWAT, Training Day and the Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour and Terminator film series. The LAPD is also featured in the video games Midnight Club II, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, L.A. Noire and Call of Juarez: The Cartel.
The LAPD has also been the subject of numerous novels. Elizabeth Linington used the department as her backdrop in three different series written under three different names, perhaps the most popular being those novel featuring Det. Lt. Luis Mendoza, who was introduced in the Edgar-nominated Case Pending. Joseph Wambaugh, the son of a Pittsburgh policeman, spent fourteen years in the department, using his background to write novels with authentic fictional depictions of life in the LAPD. Wambaugh also created the Emmy-winning TV anthology series Police Story. Wambaugh was also a major influence on James Ellroy, who wrote several novels about the Department set during the 1940s and 1950s, the most famous of which are probably The Black Dahlia, fictionalizing the LAPD's most famous cold case, and L.A. Confidential, which was made into a film of the same name. Both the novel and the film chronicled mass-murder and corruption inside and outside the force during the Parker era. Critic Roger Ebert indicates that the film's characters (from the 1950s) represent the choices ahead for the LAPD: assisting Hollywood limelight, aggressive policing with relaxed ethics, and a straight arrow approach.
