Magong Walking Tour (Penghu, Taiwan)
Magong, sometimes Romanised as Makung, is Penghu's only city with around 60,000 residents.
Guanyin is a Buddhist temple named after and dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy. It sits on the west coast in downtown Magong facing Siyu Islet and is one of the oldest temples in Penghu. Over the years a large sea-side park called Guanyinting, which includes basketball and tennis courts, a playground and a sheltered bay for swimming, has been built around the temple.
Standing over the bay and joining the park’s ocean walkway is the Rainbow Bridge, probably one of the most iconic monuments in Penghu. The bridge lights up each night sending ripples of colour across the bay.
Best Summer Destination of Taiwan! Penghu Islands | Tanya Khanijow {subtitles available}
In the month of April I had the unique opportunity to explore Taiwan with 9 other Indian Bloggers and some members of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau. This video features Penghu Island. We landed at Magong Airport in Penghu island. And most of the places here are from Magong. We also witnessed Penghu fireworks festival on the island, but that's for vlog 2!
Taiwan was such a wonderful experience by the end of which I learnt so much about it's culture and made friends that will last a life time! Watch along to experience Taiwan with me. Hope you enjoy this video! :D

We visited places on the main island and the smaller islands of Qimei and Wang'an. Unfortunately an approaching typhoon messed up our original plan of visiting another island, Jibei. We rented scooters which is the best way to get around. The double heart stone weir was indeed beautiful, the whale cave was impressive too. There was less people on the fine sand beach than we expected. Overall a nice trip.

Travel in Taiwan (2015, 9/10)
By Rick Charette
We woke up bright and early this day to catch an early-morning ferry to Qimei, the southernmost South Sea island. Hopping on scooters right at the pier (rental included in ferry-ticket price), we headed out on the very quiet coastal road – more goats than cars. Qimei’s iconic symbol is the Twin Hearts Stone Weir, made of stones piled laboriously, which fills at high tide and leaves fish stranded at low. The Tomb of the Seven Beauties – “Qimei” means “Seven Beauties” – is built around a well down which seven chaste Ming Dynasty maidens are said to have thrown themselves on the approach of nasty-intent Japanese pirates. Among the other must-visit Qimei attractions we checked off our to-do list were the picturesque Little Taiwan and Waiting for Husband Rock, two coastal rock formations viewed from above.
Rather than traveling straight back to Magong, we stopped off at Wang’an for a few hours’ exploration of this island. The highlights of our meander along the sleepy round-island coastal road? Tiantai Hill and the village of Zhongshe. Your walk up Tiantai Hill, the island’s highest point, leads to wonderful panoramic views over Wang’an and its numerous nearby islands. Wonderful Zhongshe is an old narrow-lane fishing village, almost all homes stone/coral-built. Be sure to stop in for the homemade ice-cream at the shop – shade is at a premium in the village – under the huge Penghu-renowned “Wang’an Township Tree,” an Indian almond tree planted by the shop owner’s mother in 1928.
Penghu is home to many long, fine-sand beaches. Four of the most popular are on the island of Penghu’s south side – Lintou, Aimen, Shanshui, and Shili. On the morn of this day we visited each in turn. I especially like Lintou and Shanshui. Lintou and Aimen are connected by a long beach-edge boardwalk; behind Lintou Beach is Lintou Park, a shady, aesthetically laid-out tree park in which you can sit yourself down to alfresco coffee at a bright and breezy café. At Shanshui’s entrance is a bustling cluster of beach-bum-style eateries and cafés, and backing its west side is an attractive protected lagoon area traversed in part by a long boardwalk. This leads to a high promontory that drops into the surf at the beach’s west end. Topped with a large lookout, formerly part of an off-limits military zone, the promontory is dotted with abandoned camouflaged bunkers, pillboxes, and other facilities, one outfitted with heritage photos and information boards (Chinese) on this spot’s military and ecological past.
Near Shili, pretty much at Penghu’s southwest tip, is the compelling, still-being-developed Qingwan Cactus Park. There are two foci. Cacti, yes – the archipelago’s dry, flattish, windswept environment is perfect for cactus growth. And military history – the park site is a former Japanese military base rich in ruins, notably hidden big-gun emplacements, bunker barracks, and command posts.

Abandoned Forts, ancient temples and beautiful Island landscapes, Penghu is the perfect travel destination in Taiwan!
In this episode me and Clark explored Penghu Island Taiwan to see the old forts at Duxingshi Village which are the oldest military housing in Taiwan.
We then travelled into Magong City to the ancient Mazu Temple, which according to legend is the oldest temple in all of Taiwan.
Around the temple you can find the Zhongyang Old Street which is a beautiful old chinese style street perfect for photography and exploring on foot.
Later we adventured out of Magong City, Penghu across the Penghu Great Bridge to see the history rich Yuwengdao Lighthouse and the surrounding beautiful island scenery.

Penghu Islands, Taiwan
Penghu is an archipelago of 90 islands and islets in the Taiwan Strait. With breath-taking beaches of white sand and corals and turquoise water, the islands are known for their strong winds which attract many surfers and wind-surfers.
The islands also have a rich history of piracy, imperialism and colonization. Small villages hide an impressive heritage of temples and traditional homes, along with a diverse natural landscape.
In order of appearance: Beikeng Intertidal Zone Tour (traditional fishing methods experience), Mudou Island Boat Tour (a tour of some of the smaller islands surrounding the main island of Penghu: the highlights include beautiful rock formations, lighthouses, bird-watching, and ocean fishing!), Cali Yuan Culture Fishing Tour (get some close-up view of huge fish, and you get to feed them yourself!), Nanliao Community Tour (an extremely welcoming community that has kept traditional methods of cooking and farming. Many activities to enjoy, including visits of the beautiful ancient heritage homes and temple!).

Penghu Island is Taiwan’s ultimate secret gem!
Home to unmatched natural beauty with its rugged coastlines and insane landscapes!
As the sunset on Penghu Island we travelled to some of the islands most scenic spots, these spots are a must for travel photographers and those looking to tour Taiwan nature.
We also got the chance to explore the hidden gem known as Dayi Temple found in Zhuwan Village. It is perhaps the most breathtaking temple I have ever seen and is truly a must visit if you are in Taiwan or Penghu. This temple holds a secret underneath with an insane system of Coral designed tunnels with two giant turtles.
We then had traditional Taiwanese food at the first Governor of Penghu’s House now converted into a delicious authentic eatery for Taiwanese dishes.
If you are looking for some great souvenirs to take back from Penghu for family and friends then make sure to check out Shin Tai Peng for great local Penghu snacks!
Penghu is a must travel location Taiwan, if you are looking for an adventure in Taiwan then I cannot think of a better place.
Full of natural beauty, hidden gems and unreal food, Penghu Island is a great travel destination in Taiwan.
Thank you for watching this Penghu, Taiwan travel vlog. If you would like to see more videos of us travelling and vlogging in Taiwan then make sure to let us know!

Boring Time-lapse: Xiwei Area, Magong City, Penghu County, Taiwan
A boring time-lapse of a cloudy morning in Penghu, Taiwan
Fongguei Cave (Penghu, Taiwan)
Located in the edge of the southwest corner of Magong City, Fongguei Cave is known for the wave’s noise and the distinctive topography of natural trenches and boreholes. The cave is an air vent for a basalt cape. After hitting and corroding by the waves for a long period, the basaltic rocks here disintegrate, formulating a sea cave. As the sea cave is almost an airtight space, air inside the cave will be pressed to release through the narrow air vent on the ground when the waves rush into the cave.
Every time the east wind adds to the tides, the tidal waters enter the trenches, and the boreholes make a sound comparable to that of an earthquake, after which spray is thrown a few meters out of the boreholes, for which they are named in Chinese.
