Penguin Island, Rockingham
Rockingham Wild Encounters operate an hourly ferry service to beautiful Penguin Island from September to May, each day. This unspoilt nature reserve is just a five minute boat ride away and boasts white sandy beaches, secluded bays and crystal clear waters perfect for swimming or snorkelling.
Penguin Island is home to Western Australia's largest colony of little penguins (the smallest species in the world). Visitors can get up close and learn all about the penguins at the Discovery Centre - the three penguin feeding session daily at 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm.
Visitors can also combine their visit with a dolphin watching eco-adventure or a glass bottom boat cruise that visits a colony of Australian Sea Lions.
You can even go swimming with the wild dolphins or on a seal kayak tour between September and May!
Penguin Tours at KI Penguin Centre on Kangaroo Island - So Much More Than A Tourist Attraction!
KI Penguin Centre offers Kangaroo Island visitors the opportunity to see and learn about the Little Penguin colony which makes its home along the rocky foreshore of Kingscote. Visitors to the centre can take an evening Penguin Tour which includes fish feeding in the Saltwater aquariums, a laser guided talk about the constellations of the Night Sky (weather permitting), and of course a guided walk into the penguin colony to see and learn about the penguins close up. Little penguins are sometimes also referred to as Fairy Penguins or Blue Penguins.
These fascinating little creatures often come out of their burrows to see who is on the tour...make sure you bring warm clothing and sturdy shoes - it can be cold in the penguin colony at night, even on warm summer days.
During the day, visitors can see all kinds of other sea birds at the daily pelican feeding, where you will also meet one of Kangaroo Island's most recognisable characters - the Pelican Man!

Lipson Cove's Little Penguins face Port Spencer development threat
Lipson Cove is an idyllic beach on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. Located between the towns of Port Neill and Tumby Bay, the future of this site as anspoilt weekend escape and a wildlife refuge hangs in the balance. We believe this place is far too precious to sacrifice to Centrex Metals for the purposes of a new iron ore processing plant and export facility.

The Old, Then Broken, Then Missing, Penguin Island Jetty at Mersey Point, Shoalwater Bay.
January 2018 We rode our bikes to the Penguin Island Jetty at Mersey Point in Shoalwater.
Six months later it was closed for demolition due to storm damage.
Last week there was no sign that the jetty ever existed.
There is a new modern one about 150 metres away now. A good spot for catching squid. I caught lots of herring there last summer.
This video was shot over three visits in 2018 and 2019.

Day trip to penguin Island | City of Rockingham | Our Travel Diary.
We went to Penguin Island on October 2018 .
Penguin Island is a 12.5 ha (31 acres) island off the coast near Perth, Western Australia, approximately 660 m (722 yd) from Rockingham. It is home to a colony of approximately 1200 little penguins, the largest population of the birds in Western Australia. The waters surrounding the island make up the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park.
Regular ferries[1] carry tourists to and from the island and other marine-park sights, the journey taking 5 minutes from Mersey point. The island can also be reached by private boat, kayaking, swimming, or walking across a tidal sandbar, which is often exposed above sea level at low tide for a large portion of its 700 m (766 yd) length, however at high tide, most of the sandbar is under varying depths of water. The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) advises against the sandbar walk as weather conditions can change quickly, making the crossing dangerous, which has resulted in several drownings.
In addition to the colony of little penguins, there are many other sights including nesting seabirds and a 500-strong colony of pelicans.
Penguin Island has many geographical features, cliffs, small sea caves, headlands, beaches, coves, notches and natural bridges. There are also numerous wave-cut platforms.
Significant areas of Penguin Island include North Rock, Pelican Bluff, North Beach, McKenzies Well, South Beach, Abalone Point, and Surfers Beach.
There are numerous lookouts, boardwalks and walkways throughout most of the island. Some areas are fenced off to the public to protect wildlife and lessen dune erosion.
A small population of rescued penguins are kept in a dedicated enclosure on the island (known as the Discovery Centre) which was built by the Department of Environment and Conservation in 1987. As well as being a sanctuary to care for injured wild penguins, it is also the home of the 10 resident penguins that have been badly injured, orphaned as chicks or born in captivity, and it is unlikely that they would survive in the wild. It has been designed to reflect the penguins natural sandy, coastal scrub environment and includes a saltwater pond with viewing panels to watch the little penguins swim. Penguin feedings are held three times daily by a Wildlife ranger.
