Visiting Kaikoura Seal Colony in Ohau Point, South Island | New Zealand 2019
Interested to visit wildlife in New Zealand? We decided to head the seal colony on our 2nd day. This was also our first time in #kaikoura which is famous for their seals and dolphins. While the roads are being repaired, we were not able to access the waterfalls that had baby seals so we decided to head to the seal colony at Ohau Point.

AMAZING SEAL COLONY IN KAIKOURA | BLUEBRIDGE FERRY TO PICTON - NZ MUST DO
The amazing Seal colony in Kaikoura is a must do if you are travelling the South Island. Just out of Kaikoura, Ohau point, is where you will spot a large Seal colony, swimming and sleeping on the beach.
THE START OF AN EPIC ROAD TRIP IN THE SOUTH ISLAND OF NEW ZEALAND!
We hired a Spaceship campervan in Auckland and drove it to Wellington on day 1, the next day we caught the Bluebridge ferry from Wellington to Picton, which was beautiful! On the ferry we saw all sorts of marine life. Dolphins chased the ferry, at one point a pod of 50 were swimming around us. We saw multiple Albatross birds flying low to the water looking for food.
Once we arrived in Picton we hiked up the Tirohanga track, once at the top you get amazing views over Picton and the Marlborough sounds area. We then drove to Kaikoura, where we encountered a Seal colony in Ohau point, which is famous for spotting Seals. Seals are amazing animals! Ash was particularly excited about seeing these beautiful animals.

New Zealand 2014 - Kaikoura Peninsula Seals
A few minutes' drive from Kaikoura town centre brings you up close to a seal colony. Park your car and view the seals in their natural habitat, with a backdrop of the Kaikoura mountains and coastline.
The New Zealand Fur seal is a common sight around Kaikoura throughout the year a small breeding colony scattered along the peninsula coastline. The seal population is predominantly male.
PENINSULA WALKWAY // Kaikoura, New Zealand

INCREDIBLE Seal colony drone video ★ Kaikoura New Zealand [4k]
[4k] INCREDIBLE Seal colony drone video ★ Kaikoura New Zealand. Are you backpacking in Kaikoura NZ? this epic drone video might just be for you. On the peninsula, there is a seal colony of NZ fur seals, it's free, costs nothing. I counted somewhere around 40 seals in this video, and kept spotting more and more after I rendered it. How many can you see?
In the spring and summer months, you can see baby seal pups here too, that is the breeding season.

Baby Seal Colony - Ohau Point, Kaikoura, New Zealand
Baby seals playing in the freshwater waterfall at Ohau point, near Kaikoura, in New Zealand - I filmed these baby seals at Kaikoura, in New Zealand, on one of my painting adventures. Amazingly, they travel from the safety of the New Zealand fur seal breeding colony, which is on the beach, travelling up the tiny Ohau stream and inland for about a mile or so, to get to this magical pool and waterfall. Let's Explore: Seals in Kaikoura, New Zealand!
Heya!
Welcome to Kaikoura, one of my favourite places in New Zealand!
Recently there was a big earthquake that closed the only roads through for a while and hit the township pretty hard, so if you're looking to travel somewhere in NZ, Kaikoura could really use the tourism now the roads are back open!
It's a really lovely place with so many things to do and see - penguin and seal colonies, beaches, waterfalls, walks, lookouts - basically whatever you want. Definitely in my top ten places to visit in NZ.
