The wind farm at Royd Moor is an impressive sight, as are the vistas from the viewing platform at Royd Moor, both a short walk from the Blacksmiths. This makes a great starting point for some wonderful rambling or cycling. Also there are several reservoirs nearby – ideal for bird watching and fishing fans.
Millhouse Green is two miles west of Penistone, a thriving small market town on the Sheffield to Manchester train line. Penistone Paramount is ever popular, with regular Compton organ events, live music and theatre events and a traditional cinema. Also a 10 minute drive away is Holmfirth, a great place to visit and on the route of the Tour de France, which passed very close by indeed in July 2014 (see Yorkshire.com promotional video for the Tour de France Yorkshire below). We welcome cyclists who may wish to come to try out part of the route for themselves.
For music fans, Holmfirth also boasts one of the north of England’s finest intimate music venues in the Holmfirth Picturedrome.

A nostalgic view of many of Aberdeen's cinemas. Of a total of 50, only the Kingsway survives relatively intact thanks to bingo, the Queens as a nightclub and the Capitol, though only the foyers are unchanged. Happily, the Belmont is now a triple screen Picture House. The music is the organ of the Astoria, then the Capitol - both Comptons.

Intolerance - Gaylord Carter, Organ Power Pizza, San Diego
Gaylord Carter (1905-2000) improvises an accompaniment to a scene from the 1916 silent film Intolerance on the ex-Reginald Foort/BBC 5/28 Møller organ installed at the time of this recording (1970s) in the Organ Power Pizza restaurant in San Diego, California. The recording can be found on this somewhat mis-titled album:
This colossal instrument, with over 2000 pipes and weighing in at nearly 32 tons, was commissioned in 1938 by Reginald Foort, Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, upon his resignation from the British Broadcasting Corporation. Until 1940, he toured with this instrument all over Britain, until the exigencies of war made it impossible to continue. The BBC had at the time just lost its 1936 4/25 Compton in an air raid: neither of the remaining two Comptons were theatre organs and so a replacement was needed. Foort donated the Møller, which was set up in a theatre in out-of-the-way Llandudno. After the war, the BBC moved it to a redundant church in Hoxton, East London, where it remained until 1963, when sold to a Dutch broadcaster, who installed it in a church in Hilversum, where it was little used, although recordings do exist of it there. Several years later, it was sold to the entrepreneur who started Organ Power Pizza in San Diego, California: he had the instrument restored by Møller, replaced the Tibias with smaller Wurlitzer items and added a 16ft extension to the Post Horn and a 32ft Bombarde. This installation is not now thought to have been very successful. When Organ Power Pizza went bankrupt, the organ was sold to the city of Pasadena, where Reginald Foort now lived. It was restored with the original Møller Tibias, though including the additions mentioned. Foort was in the audience when Tom Hazleton reopened the organ at Pasadena in 1980 and declared himself most pleased, stating that the instrument had finally found a home after 42 years of very itinerant life. He died a few weeks later.
The photograph used in this video is one of very few extant of the organ at Organ Power Pizza: the organist at the console is Chris Gorsuch, whose untimely death this year robbed the American theatre organ scene of one of its greatest talents.
