Penrose to Loe Bar | Dog Walking Cornwall | Woody's Walks
Where are your favourite places to walk in Cornwall? We're always looking for new adventures!
I've decided to change my vlogs a little bit, as I've realised it's hard to film everyday! Instead what I've decided to do is to review one of Woody's walks each week and share it with you in a video! This week we walked from Penrose to Loe Bar, between Helston and Porthleven.

Discover Porthleven - Penrose
Part of the Discover Porthleven series. Penrose estate is managed by the National Trust. The area is open to the public from dawn to dusk.
REAL GHOST - HAUNTED WENDRON CHURCH, NEAR HELSTON, CORNWALL
This is real. In the village of Wendron is St Wendrona's church from the tower were the sound of bells. I took this when I was there and I did not know it was going to happen.
It might not be a ghost because the wind could have been making the bells move (because you can hear the wind)
But
It could be a ghost because the wind can not move a heavy bell and if you watch the string the bell is on you can see that it is moving a bit like someone is pulling it.
Penrose Estate
The Penrose Estate is a woods, house and small garden between Helston and Porthleven in Cornwall. The estate starts at Helston and end at Loe Bar. The estate also has Loe Pool, the largest freshwater lake in Cornwall. Loe Pool is also one of the places where King Arthur's sword Excalibur was thrown (but Dozmary Pool is more famous for this). The Penrose Estate also has the Wheal Pool Silver and Lead mine to the North-East side of the estate.
The estate is now owned by the National Trust but was owned by the Rogers Family, who made their money from mining. The estate is 1536 acres and was given to the National Trust by Lt Cdr Rogers in 1974 but the house is still owned by the Rogers Family.
The Bath House is one of the only ones of it's type left in the world.

Porthleven, Cornwall
May Bank Holiday Weekend, walk at Porthleven, great weather!
Porthleven, Cornwall
Porthleven is a town, fishing port and parish in West Cornwall. The town is famous for its harbour and its Bickford-Smith Institute.
The town is relatively new and in the 18th century the houses were just around the harbour, but there has been a fair and annual market recorded at a part known as Methleigh as early as 1066.
Porthleven is made up of three hamlet, Torleven, Well Moor and Graves End. None of these hamlets still survive however the name 'Torleven' is still in use as it is the name of the road leading from Fore Street to the A394 at Sithney Common Hill. Porthleven harbour was a place of refuge because the large amount of ships that had crashed and the name of the old hamlet 'Graves End' was called that because of the large amount of fishermen who died there.
On an area called Breageside, a cross has been erected on the cliffs in memory of the fishermen who died at sea.
The Bickford-Smith institute is one of the most famous buildings in Cornwall and is 70 feet high. It is used as a town hall and also a snooker club.
St Bartholomew's Church was built in 1842 in the parish of Sithney and was a chapel in the parish of Sithney until Porthleven was made its own parish in 1844. The small parish covers a large amount of Porthleven and also part of Loe Pool and the Penrose Estate.
Porthleven was used in the filming of Wycliffe in the 1990's, a crime drama made by HTV and distributed by ITV Studios. The clocktower on the Bickford-Smith institute is very famous for photographs of waves coming over it and has been used a number of times in documentaries and also as a background to BBC and occasionally ITV Weather forecasts.

Cornwall in Winter - 4 days in January
We rented a National Trust cottage in Helston, Cornwall for 4 days and even though it never reached more than 7 c and we never saw the sun the whole time we were there, we had a lovely time going out exploring the coves and cliff top walk, with visits to St Ives, Truro and Loe Bar.
