Wine Tour in Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley Wine Region
Our visit to Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley wine region.
We left Whistler and made the 8 hour drive to Kelowna. We stayed with family and our daily goal was to explore Kelowna and the Okanagan, taste wines, tour wineries and eat delicious oknagan fresh fruit.
The Okanagan produces 80% of British Columbias wine. There are over 182 licensed wineries with the majority of them situated along the Okanagan lake. Wine has been produced in Kelowna and the Okanagan since the 1850’s. Unfortunately in the early days prohibition had wiped out most of Kelowna’s wineries and it wasn’t until the 1930’s when the wine industry in Kelowna and the Okanagan was revitalized.
There are over 60 different types of grapes that are grown in the Okanagan including, merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, pinot noir, pinot gris, chardonnay, cabernet franc and much more.
We visited Rollingdale Winery, Tantalus Winery, Vibrant Vines, Frequency Winery, Arrow Leaf Winery, Summerhill Pyramid Winery and Ex Nihilo Winery. These wineries are located in various locations throughout Kelowna and you would likely want to limit yourself to 3-4 wineries per day. Please take a taxi or have a designated driver.
We highly recommend taking a trip down to Kelowna and doing a wine tour, it's a ton of fun and very close to Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast.

Classic Okanagan // Trail Touring Penticton, Kelowna & Vernon
While British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley might be best known for its countless vineyards, the region’s sprawling mountains are equally ripe with singletrack. Penticton, Kelowna and Vernon comprise much of the valley’s populace and all offer trail networks that define the area’s riding. Johnny Smoke and Sonya Looney sample some of the Okanagan’s best singletrack as they make their way north through the valley.

CANADIAN DESERT - OKANAGAN COUNTRY HD

1 WEEK IN THE OKANAGAN VALLEY | CHERRY ORCHARD & FLOATING THE PENTICTON CHANNEL | ROTR Week 5
This past week we spent at the UNBELIEVABLE and SO UNDERRATED Okanagan Valley in Canada!
We started the week by finishing up our time in Jasper National Park by hiking the Bald Hills at Maligne Lake and the Valley of Five Lakes! Both hikes were WONDERFUL and are absolute must-dos on anyone's visit to Jasper.
From there we moved on to a place we had never even heard of before this trip...the Okanagan Valley. We got SO many recommendations for this place, so we had to go. Why the Okanagan Valley? Well, many reasons!
Number 1, the weather. THIS is where you get summer weather in Canada. We are talking 90s and 100s (fahrenheit) and ALL DAY sunshine!
Number 2, there is a fantastic drive in (named Starlight) in Enderby that has double showings every night for really cheap! And the best part about a drive in? You bring your own drinks and snacks!
Number 3, the orchards and wineries! The Okanagan is the fruit capitol of Canada! Cherries, apples, grapes, peaches, you name it they have it!
Number 4, the Penticton Canal float. A FREE 7 km float from Okanagan Lake to Skaha Lake! We had an absolute BLAST floating the canal with our friends Matt and Sofia!
From the Okanagan it is off to Vancouver, where our first stop is Cascade Falls just outside the city!
We hope you enjoy our video on our Week 5 adventure in Jasper National Park, the Okanagan Valley, and Cascade Falls outside Vancouver!

Hi! We are Zach & Julie & Kobe Ruhl, the creators of Ruhls of the Road! We are launching this YouTube channel to document our adventure living out of our Do It Yourself CamperVan - Winnie! Winnie is an absolute beauty of a vehicle - a 2001 Volkswagen Eurovan who loves living the van life.
We have been living the van life since December 2018, and have been loving every day exploring, adventuring, hiking, camping, and doing the darn thing!
Every week, we are posting a brief recap of the previous week showing all of the cool and crazy shenanigans we got ourselves into that week! There will be some tears, some laughs, some scrapes & bruises, and a whole lot of adventure along the way.
We truly believe that people can learn SO much about themselves AND about other cultures by traveling. Hitting the road and experiencing new places, people, & things will open up anyone's mind to new things they never dreamed before! About Zach & Julie:
We first found out each other had a passion for travel when we started dating, and set off on our first trip together to sunny San Diego after only dating for a few short weeks! You really learn who someone is when you travel with them... Everything started off great with a delayed flight and lost baggage (the only reason Zach has broken Julie’s terrible overpacking habits and convinced her to become a backpacker gal) but we bonded the rest of the time over sunsets, bike rides, seafood and strong coffee. We were quickly hooked to the feeling of exploring a new place and found ourselves planning our next trip before returning home from the last.
Starting in January 2019, we purchased a 2001 Volkswagen Eurovan MV and are making the road our home! We spent 2 months converting our van (Winnie) into our home, with a TON of help from YouTube tutorials, and of course some help from Zach's handyman pops. Now every day is a new adventure!
