VLOG #29 | ONE OF HO CHI MINH CITY ATTRACTIONS - HCMC PEOPLE'S COMMITTEE BUILDING
The People’s Committee Building Saigon in central Ho Chi Minh City features well-preserved French colonial architecture in a spacious garden landscape. Originally constructed as a hotel in 1898 by French architect Gardes, it now serves as a city hall and one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
Occupying the end of Nguyen Hue walking promenade, it has three buildings with embossed statues of animals and people, intricate bas-reliefs on the walls, as well as a statue of Ho Chi Minh in front of the main building. The best time to visit is in the evening, as these features are beautifully illuminated with LED lights.
Located in District 1, the People’s Committee Building Saigon is accessible within a five-minute walk from prominent colonial structures such as the Saigon Opera House, Rex Hotel, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Union Square Shopping Mall. An ideal sightseeing excursion would be strolling the Nguyen Hue to visit the Saigon Opera House and Notre Dame Cathedral, followed by some retail therapy at the shopping centre. In the evening, make your way to the People’s Committee Building Saigon for breathtaking sunset shots, before ending the day with drinks at Rex Hotel Rooftop Bar.

The view from Saigon Skydeck in HCMC, Vietnam
A quick pop to the top of the Bitexco Financial Tower in HCMC. Just below the copter pad is the Saigon Skydeck. We were up early and got there just before the crowds.
68 floors reaching to a height of 262.5 meters. The tower was designed by architects J.M. Duthilleul, E. Tricaud and Carlos Zapata. The Bitexco Tower was the tallest building in Vietnam from fall of 2010 to early 2011.
It was well worth the cash for us to shoot the city from above. It was so humid that morning - I remember thinking the A.C. was worth the ticket price alone. You can see the hot haze over the whole city.
The building was inspired by a lotus. No - really. That shape is a lotus emerging from the water. ;)

Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnamese: Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh; About this sound listen, formerly named Saigon (Vietnamese: Sài Gòn; About this sound listen, French: Saïgon), is the largest city in Vietnam. Under the name Saigon, it was the capital of the French colony of Cochinchina and later of the independent republic of South Vietnam from 1955--75. South Vietnam was a capitalist and anti-communist state which fought against the communist North Vietnamese and Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, with the assistance of the United States and other countries. On 30 April 1975, Saigon fell and the war ended with a Communist victory. On 2 July 1976, Saigon merged with the surrounding Gia Định Province and was officially renamed Ho Chi Minh City after Hồ Chí Minh (although the name Sài Gòn is still commonly used).[3]
The metropolitan area, which consists of the Ho Chi Minh City metropolitan area, Thủ Dầu Một, Dĩ An, Biên Hòa and surrounding towns, is populated by more than 9,000,000 people,[nb 1] making it the most populous metropolitan area[4] in Vietnam. The city's population is expected to grow to 13.9 million in 2025.[5]
The Ho Chi Minh City Metropolitan Area, a metropolitan area covering most parts of the Southeast region plus Tiền Giang Province and Long An Province under planning, will have an area of 30,000 square kilometres (11,583 sq mi) with a population of 20 million inhabitants by 2020.[6] According to the Mercer Human Resource Consulting, Economist Intelligence Unit and ECA International, Ho Chi Minh City is ranked 132 on the list of world's most expensive cities for expatriate employees.

Vietnam walk - Strolling around Ho Chi Minh Square (人民委員会庁舎,ホーチミンスクエア) - 4K
In this video we’ll show you Strolling around HCMC (人民委員会庁舎,ホーチミンスクエア), Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh Square can be found in the middle of District 1, right in the city centre, and is surrounded by beautiful French colonial style buildings. On this square you will find a statue of Uncle Ho, which was placed to honour the 100th birthday of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee (City Hall).
The City Hall is a popular place for tourists to take pictures and is especially beautiful around dusk, when many of the landmarks are lit by soft lighting. On the left flank of the square you find the five-star Rex Hotel which is also designed by French architects and was home to International journalists during the Vietnam War. A state of the art shopping mall with all international brands, a food court and some luxury hotel rooms can be found on the right side (also French colonial architecture).
