Dominica: Driving through the lush jungles of Dominca towards the capital Roseau
Moving around from the country of the Commonwealth of Dominica is such a beautiful experience. The lush foliage, flowers and mountain views are astounding. Dominica is essentially a mountainous jungle with villages carved out of the jungle. Most of the roads are one lane roads but are in good condition. The roads move along the sides of the mountains and many have steep cliffs or make dramatic cuts through mountain tops and deep valleys. The views are just breathtaking. People drive at a comfortable pace and are courteous to oncoming vehicles. Everyone is relaxed and friendly (no road rage).
If you have ever been to a botanical garden in a large city and have smelled the smell of tropical trees and plants, then you will know what it is to smell the air in Dominica. The entire island smells of a beautiful odor of tropical foliage so fresh is the smell that it is completely intoxicating.
The sound in the video is the wind blowing against the camera because I had my arm out the window holding the camera while Pepper was driving (Pepper from pepperscottage.com). As he drives around corners Pepper often beeps to notify oncoming traffic that a car is coming in the opposite direction. This is a safety measure that is ingrained in everyone's driving habits in Dominica, and especially necessary when there is a cliff at the side.
Dominca, The Nature Island: Astonishing number of fruits in small garden!
This video was taken on June 29th 2013 when I visited the village of Castle Bruce with Pepper from Pepper Tours. The house in this video was recently sold for about 50,000 $US and sits on a small parcel of land, about 100 feet by 100 feet. The house is in the process of being renovated and has a beautiful view of the Atlantic ocean. What was really astonishing was the variety of fruits growing on the small parcel of land. The young man in the video, Kurt (24 years old), grew up and lives across from this house in the village of Castle Bruce. He shows describes all the fruits and plants on the land, which include several mango trees, pineapple, bread fruit, goose berries, a large and small cinnamon tree, several small lime trees, golden apples, cherries, sugar cane, guava cherries, papaya, star fruit, noni fruit, avocado, etc. Can you imagine having so much in a small garden? Dominica is truly an astonishingly beautiful place. I was blown away! Dominica has the freshest, healthiest, largest variety of fruits, vegetables, spices and herbs I have ever seen growing in such abundance. The land is very fertile and nobody ever uses chemicals of any kind on the land or produce. Truly bio!
Dominca has few beaches and even fewer with white sand. Most are dark volcanic sand or rock beaches. This keeps away the hordes of tourists. There are no major hotel chains and all the hotels are small and run by people who love and respect the country and the beauty of the nature that surrounds them.
Dominica is an eco tourist destination with miles of hiking trails through lush, thick, beautiful jungles. No dangerous animals or critters of any sort. Many humming birds, parrots, iguanas and cute lizards of all kinds. Just a stunning place to be!
The people are very friendly, and life goes at about a third of the pace in the western world. Everyone is smiling, singing, dancing, chatting and enjoying life. There are many centenarians because of the clean and pure environment. No slums and no abject poverty. With fruits all over the place... mangoes and oranges hanging in abundance on the trees on the roadsides, nobody ever goes hungry in this beautiful country.
A big thank you to Kurt and Pepper.
If you are going to visit Dominica, you need to hire Pepper. He grew up on the island and knew every place to go and see. He shows me places that most tourists never get to see. He was fantastic! pepperscottage.com

We went on the Aerial Tram in Dominica. It was run by the same company as the Aerial Tram in Costa Rica. On the way up, we glided through the forest floor, on the way back, through the canopy. It was a very pleasent 2 hours.

Dominica is an island nation and borderless country in the Caribbean Sea, the northernmost of the Windward Islands (though it is sometimes considered the southernmost of the Leeward Islands). The size of the country is about 289.5 square miles (750 km2). The capital is Roseau. From wikipedia.org
Dominica is largely covered by rainforest and is home to the world's second-largest hot spring, Boiling Lake.[8] Dominica has many waterfalls, springs, and rivers. The Calibishie area in the country's northeast has sandy beaches.[citation needed] Some plants and animals thought to be extinct on surrounding islands can still be found in Dominica's forests.[citation needed] The volcanic nature of the island has attracted scuba divers. The island has several protected areas, including Cabrits National Park, as well as 365 rivers. From wikipedia.org
Dominica is often seen as a society that is migrating from collectivism to that of individualism. The economy is a developing one that previously depended on agriculture. Signs of collectivism are evident in the small towns and villages which are spread across the island. From wikipedia.org
Dominican cuisine is similar to that of other Caribbean countries. Common main courses comprise meat (usually chicken, but can be goat, lamb, or beef) covered in sauce. The sauces are either spicy pepper sauces, or concoctions made from local fruit. A huge variety of local fruit, from tamarind to passion fruit, are served on the island, usually in juice or sauce form. Soursop is peeled and eaten raw. Sorrel, a red flower that only blooms around Christmas, is boiled into a bright red drink. Typical dishes include pelau, a one-pot dish of rice and chicken, mountain chicken (frog), all types of local fish, frozen joys (a homemade flavored popsicle), and several types of ground provisions,--root vegetables including dasheen and tania From wikipedia.org

CBN4News - Market Day with a Difference
The turnout at Market Day with a Difference at the Roseau Market this morning was simply amazing as large numbers of patrons came dressed in Creole wear to showcase their products, services and crafts.
The ceremony which started at 8 am, began with a prayer by Bishop Gabriel Malzaire. This was followed by the welcoming remarks by Gregoire Thomas, General Manger of DEXIA.
Hon. Collin Mc Intyre, Minister of Trade Industry, Consumer and Diaspora Affairs, also addressed the public and encouraged them to act responsibly and to participate actively in the process of development.
After the ceremony, patrons were given a tour of the marketplace, led by the Prime Minister and other delegates. During the tour the Ministers took the opportunity to mingle with persons at the event and even had the opportunity to take part in some of the cultural performances.

Dominica: The Rainforest Island
It rains in the rain forest. Rain kills cameras. Who didn't know that? But, Peter, our guide, did make a forty foot high dive into the falls, so I guess it all balances in the end.
