Vrådal (Kviteseid), Norway
Vrådal, formerly spelled Wraadahl, is a village in Kviteseid municipality, Norway. The village had a population of 220 as of 1 January 2009. The centre of the village is at Eidstod, which lies at the eastern end of the Vråvatn lake, where it flows into lake Nisser. The economy is based on tourism (hotels, camping and a ski-centre), light industry, and small-scale logging.
The name probably derives from the old Norse «vrá/ró» which means step, probably used to refer to farms which lay a little remotely - but it could also come from the fact that the valley is curved or stepped.
The village has a long-church built in 1866, Vrådal kirke.

Harald Hardrada
Harald Sigurdsson (Old Norse: Haraldr Sigurðarson; c. 1015 – 25 September 1066), given the epithet Hardrada (harðráði, roughly translated as stern counsel or hard ruler) in the sagas, was King of Norway (as Harald III) from 1046 to 1066. In addition, he unsuccessfully claimed the Danish throne until 1064 and the English throne in 1066. Prior to becoming king, Harald had spent around fifteen years in exile as a mercenary and military commander in Kievan Rus' and in the Byzantine Empire.
When he was fifteen years old, in 1030, Harald fought in the Battle of Stiklestad together with his half-brother Olaf Haraldsson (later Saint Olaf). Olaf sought to reclaim the Norwegian throne, which he had lost to the Danish king Cnut the Great two years prior. In the battle, Olaf and Harald were defeated by forces loyal to Cnut, and Harald was forced in exile to Kievan Rus' (the sagas' Garðaríki). He thereafter spent some time in the army of Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise, eventually obtaining rank as a captain, until he moved on to Constantinople with his companions around 1034. In Constantinople, he soon rose to become the commander of the Byzantine Varangian Guard, and saw action on the Mediterranean Sea, in Asia Minor, Sicily, possibly in the Holy Land, Bulgaria and in Constantinople itself, where he became involved in the imperial dynastic disputes. Harald amassed considerable wealth during his time in the Byzantine Empire, which he shipped to Yaroslav in Kievan Rus' for safekeeping. He finally left the Byzantines in 1042, and arrived back in Kievan Rus' in order to prepare his campaign of reclaiming the Norwegian throne. Possibly to Harald's knowledge, in his absence the Norwegian throne had been restored from the Danes to Olaf's illegitimate son Magnus the Good.

Northern Norway
Northern Norway is the geographical region of Norway, consisting of the three northernmost counties Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, in total about 35% of the Norwegian mainland. Some of the largest towns in Northern Norway are Mo i Rana, Bodø, Narvik, Harstad, Tromsø and Alta. Northern Norway is often described as the land of the midnight sun and the land of the northern lights. Further north, halfway to the North Pole, is the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, traditionally not regarded as part of Northern Norway.
The region is multi-cultural, housing not just Norwegians but also the indigenous Sami people, Norwegian Finns and Russian populations. The Norwegian language dominates in most of the area; Sami speakers are mainly found inland and in some of the fjord areas of Nordland, Troms and particularly Finnmark – though ethnic Sámi who do not speak the language are found more or less everywhere in the region. Finnish is spoken in only a few communities in the east of Finnmark.

Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 30, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
House impeachment managers and President Trump’s lawyers have concluded their opening arguments in the Senate. The impeachment trial is now in the question period for both sides, when senators submit questions in writing to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. The chief justice will read questions out loud, alternating between the majority and minority for up to eight hours.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

SORROW AND A HEAVY HEART | VLOG 14
It took me so many days to record that last scene for this vlog. But I needed to open my heart and tell you all about why I feel so depressed right now. To let you know about the situation we are in, and that we might need to lose what we love so much.
Even if we take one day at a time right now and try to see bright on the future, it is constantly draining us.
And of course, when one bad thing happens, much more comes at the same time...
Like, loosing the forest you loved.
But, I feel so relieved that I finally are able to upload this extra long vlog. It felt important to me to share the reality of this situation.
And it's been some beautiful, really cold days here and of course I wanted to give you all a little glimpse of that as well.
With all my heart, thank you SO much for watching! ♥
And I hope you all are having a lovely december.
LOTS of love to you! ♥
EDIT: Here is a link to a petition that someone started to help collect names that are against the building of this gigantic industry here:
I will give the whole list of names to the politicians in January.
I am forever thankful for your help!!

Sami people
The Sami people, also spelled Sámi or Saami, are the indigenous Finno-Ugric people inhabiting the Arctic area of Sápmi, which today encompasses parts of far northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Kola Peninsula of Russia, and the border area between south and middle Sweden and Norway. The Sámi are the only indigenous people of Scandinavia recognized and protected under the international conventions of indigenous peoples, and are hence the northernmost indigenous people of Europe. Sami ancestral lands span an area of approximately 388,350 km2 , which is approximately the size of Norway, in the Nordic countries. Their traditional languages are the Sami languages and are classified as a branch of the Uralic language family.

Drive into Norway Beach and Wanaka Loop
-----------------------------------------
Art S.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Beachside sites on the local bike path
I didn’t plan on staying here. The name caught our attention just when we needed a rest. A friendly visitor center and quite the trail along the beach and we found a site.
Sites with beach access were taken so we chose one away from the crowd. We had half the campground to ourselves. Site 127 was right across from the restroom and still was large and private. We had plenty of space after setting up the teardrop and screen room. Walk down the road and access to the boat launch and bike trail we’re easily accessible. The loud family group on the other side didn’t bother us. It did look like many sites were reserved but many had no marker.
We hiked 5 miles of the bike trail along with some foot-only ones. We passed cyclists and jet skiing family groups. It’s down the road from town - also bike-able.
We’re glad we found this campground. It would be a perfect family beach getaway.

Trump Impeachment Trial: Q&A begins (Day 8)
With opening arguments wrapped up in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, the next phase begins. For the next two days, senators get to ask questions of both legal teams. During that time, people will be looking for signs of whether enough Republicans will cross the aisle and agree to bring in witnesses -- particularly former national security adviser John Bolton.

Muskoka, Ontario Travel Guide: A Winter Overview
Head to Muskoka, Canada, just two hours North of Toronto, to trade in the fast pace of city life for an immersive few days in nature.
Dog sledding with Snow Forest Adventures kicks off our visit after a briefing from well trained guides on how to mush. This takes dog sledding to a whole new level of fun, as I run behind the sled before hopping on again, calling out to Blackie, Echo and Chester, some of the huskies leading the charge. I jump off again as we wind around a corner in the forested Algonquin Provincial Park, this time picking up speed downhill, staying hot on the sleigh of our guide.
Winter adventure continues, this time behind the seat of a powerful and nearly new Yamaha snowmobile to see even more of the wonderful views at a quicker speed. We practice turns on a beginner route before moving into a higher gear and even more scenic terrain throughout Deerhurst Adventure Park. Now that I am feeling comfortable riding, I pick up speed on a flat stretch for one last rush. Temperatures can be fiercely cold, but guides make sure we are suited up with heavy duty outwear, including suits, boots and gloves, that keep us warm for the entire ride.
To wind down the day, we rent snowshoes from our home base, Deerhurst Resort, before trekking to Lookout Point for the ultimate Muskoka view. Our guide leads us through thick forests on the one-mile climb to the top to watch the sunset over the town.

Skinny, rich... but on sickleave? | Silje Endresen Reme | TEDxArendal
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Norway is one of the richest countries in the world, but have the highest sick absences in Europe. The statistics show that the majority of sick leaves is due to muscle- and skeleton affliction and mildly mental sufferings. Silje have researched what actions can be done to help them come back to work, and offers a solution to a much debated topic - not only in Scandinavia - but all over the western world. Is forcing people with sufferings back to work the solution? Or is there a better alternative?
Silje Endresen Reme is a psychologist and PhD at the University of Bergen and lectures at Harvard School of Public Health. She
wrote a doctor’s degree about understanding and treatment of cronical afflictions, with focus on actions to reduce sickleaves due to these issues.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
