Recife - Pernambuco - Brazil
Recife is the four-teen-largest metropolitan area in Brazil with 3,743,854 inhabitants (2012), the largest metropolitan area of the North/Northeast Regions, the 3th-largest metropolitan influence area in Brazil, and the capital and largest city of the state of Pernambuco. The population of the city proper was 1,555,039 in 2012.
Recife is located where the Beberibe River meets the Capibaribe River to flow into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a major port on the Atlantic Ocean. Its name is an allusion to the stone reefs that are present by the city's shores. The many rivers, small islands and over 50 bridges found in Recife city center characterize its geography and gives it the moniker of the Brazilian Venice. As of 2010, it is the capital city with the highest HDI in Northeast Brazil.
The Metropolitan Region of Recife is the main industrial zone of the State of Pernambuco; most relevant products are those derived from cane (sugar and ethanol), ships, oil platforms, electronics, and others; thanks to the fiscal incentives of government, many industrial enterprises were started in the 1970s and 1980s. Recife has a tradition of being the most important commercial center of the North/Northeastern region of Brazil with more than 52,500 business enterprises in Recife itself plus 32,500 in the Metro Area which totals more than 85,000.
A combination of a large supply of labor and significant private investments turned Recife into Brazil's second largest medical center (second only to São Paulo); modern hospitals with state-of-the-art equipment receive patients from several neighboring States.
Like all other cities in the Northeast, Recife is developing its tourist sector. The beach of Porto de Galinhas, 60 kilometers (37 mi) south of the city, has been repeatedly awarded the title of best beach in Brazil and has drawn many tourists, and the Historic Centre of the Town of Olinda, 7 kilometers (4.3 mi) north of the city, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982.[8] Recife's infrastructure is among the most developed in Brazil for travellers and business people, though there is wide room for improvement.
The city is also an educational center, and home to the Federal University of Pernambuco, the largest university in Pernambuco. Several Brazilian historical figures, such as the poet and abolitionist Castro Alves, moved to Recife to attain their education. Recife and Natal are the only Brazilian cities with direct flights to the islands of Fernando de Noronha, World Heritage Site.
The city is one of the host cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, Recife hosted the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and 1950 FIFA World Cup.

Recife, the capital of Brazil’s northeastern state of Pernambuco, is distinguished by its many rivers, bridges, islets and peninsulas. Recife Antigo, on its own island by the harbor, is the historic old town center dating to the 16th century. To its south, popular Boa Viagem Beach is sheltered by reefs and lined by tall apartment blocks, modern hotels and restaurants.Recife was founded by the Portuguese at a spot marked on Marco Zero plaza. Nearby, Rua do Bom Jesus is a cobbled street with colorful houses and Kahal Zur Israel, thought to be the first synagogue in the Americas. Cais do Sertão museum focuses on Northeast Brazil’s culture and semi-arid landscape. Dutch colonial influences can be found at the 1630 Cinco Pontas Fort and Ricardo Brennand Institute, which has a large collection of European artist Frans Post’s paintings. Oficina Brennand showcases Francisco Brennand’s abstract ceramic sculptures in an outdoor setting.rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn

In Recife, Brazil, the culture is a heavy mix of African and portuguese culture. In this video, I walk around various parts of Recife Antigo (Old Reef), and showcase their musical tastes and some of the fun dancing.
The dancing in the end looks a lot like Cossack dancing from old Russia.

Museu do Mamulengo - Olinda PE

Rio+20 - Gallery Walkthrough
RIO = +
The exhibition is a photo reportage in Black & White outside the historical RIO+20 conference, in Rio de Janeiro organized by the United Nations this past June, and of the numerous side events that complimented that event as reported by Conceição Praun.
This exhibition co-insides with Ms. Praun continuous efforts to coordinate with the annual Conferences of the Parties (COP), since Ms. Praun's involvement beginning in 2009.
* * * * * * *
Conceição Praun, was born in Olinda, Pernambuco in the north east of Brazil.
Ms. Praun developed an interest in the complex processes behind the camera obscura, (Dark Room) and learned the principles of this optical device while living in London. There, she had her first showcase followed by others.
Ms. Praun then moved to Paris where she met George Fèvre (1930-2007), the master of photo development and who was an apprentice to Henri Cartier-Bresson, an established photographer. This relationship encouraged Ms Praun's deep appreciation on his theory of 'l'instant décisif'.
Fèvre became Ms. Praun's mentor and exercised a great influence on her career, making her promise that she would focus into the metaphysical contrasts of black and white.
Her photographs are based on the characteristic of spontaneity over prose and composition, in between clear and hazy atmospheres.
Praun travels the world seeking to highlight the conditions of social and environmental circumstances in order to create awareness on society's behaviours.
Take care of our environment -- it's a duty which transcends cultural, socioeconomic and all kind of boundaries. - Conceição
