Bold Park (Perth, WA)
Bold Park is a 437-hectare (1,080-acre) urban bushland area in the suburb of City Beach, in Perth, Western Australia. It is located 8 km (5 mi) directly west of the Perth central business district, its western border less than one kilometre from the Indian Ocean. To the east, Perry Lakes reserve is directly adjacent to the park. The hilly topography allows views of both the city and ocean.
Bold Park is situated near the Indian Ocean, west of the Perth central business district.
The Perth City Council established Bold Park in 1936. It was named after William E. Bold, who served as town clerk from 1900 to 1944 (the longest serving town clerk in the council's history).
Bold Park is located on a calcareous coastal plain. Limestone formations in the park were quarried to provide stone for the growing population of Perth.
Bold Park was recognised as an A-class reserve on 10 August 1998. Since 2000, the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) has managed Bold Park (along with the 406-hectare Kings Park). Frequent fires, recreational activities and weed invasion have plagued Perth's urban bushland areas. The Bold Park Environmental Management Plan (2000–2005) committed the BGPA to restoring the park.

Swanleigh Boarding Hostel - Middle Swan Perth Western Australia
This is a walk through visit to Swanleigh boarding hostel to see what its like today. It was shut down as a hostel a few years ago.
I attended from the start of 1984 to the end of 1988. Starting at 12 years old, leaving when I was 17. I come from a country school of around 20 students to one of 1800 students. Quite a shock to the system
The facilities are now an Adventure park run by the Anglican Church.

Taste Master: Eat Perth
Rich Keam, Taste Master Western Australia ( is taken on a roving food tour of the city by Perth local, Laura Moseley. Right in the heart of Perth's summer festival season this is the right time to be exploring food in the city.
#EATPERTH
In recent years Perth has seen fresh spark enter it's streets. Historic buildings, spaces, corners, and laneways are being reactivated by passionate and creative entrepreneurs. Small bars, cosy bistros and restaurants, late night dining, pop up shops, street food and farmers markets are at the very heart of this change. It has never been a better time to taste what the city has on offer. Better still, many of these new haunts are showcasing Western Australia's best fresh, local and seasonal produce.
Established festivals like Perth International Arts Festival have held strong, but many new ones have popped up including Fringe World Festival and a multitude of hyper-local street festivals.
Together Laura and Rich explore where old meets new in the city. From Perth's King Street and Barrack Street, to Northbridge's William Street and Cultural Centre; it's a busy day of eating, drinking and relaxing in the sun. Along the way they meet some of the people at the heart of Perth's vibrant food scene.
Stop One: Uncle Joes Mess Hall.
A repurposed space, fitted out with reused and recycled materials is one of the best places to get a coffee in the city. It also happens to be a Barbers shop as well. A trim and a coffee - what more do you need? Whilst there, Laura and Rich meet up with Dan Ash of Micrology Coffee Roasters, one of the city's many micro roastaries. He provides all of Uncle Joe's coffee and is also behind their latest offering: cold drip coffee.
Stop Two: Toastface Grillah.
Mike O'Hanlon is part of the team behind Toastface Grillah. On a laneway between Wellington Street and Barrack Street they are serving up grilled cheese that will change the way you look at the humble toatie.
Stop Three: Delish Ice
Katie Earl is the owner of Delish Ice. From a batch of homemade ice pops sold from a vintage caravan she's now opened a Pop-Up shop on William Street. She also has two vintage vans, carts and a growing range of artisan ice pops - Salted Malted Caramel using brewing wort (the sweet mixture that goes into creating beer) as well as Basil and Elderflower (in which she uses botanicals found in Gin). From kids to adults to grannies, this summer she's had people lining up to get a taste of her ice pops.
Stop Four: Kakulus Bros.
Evan Kakulas is the owner of one of Perth's food and cultural icons. Evan's grandfather started Kakulas Bros. back in 1929. They started off importing olives from Alexandria and now sell all manner of spices, coffees, flours, nuts, dried fruits, teas, cheeses, meets, sweets. The shelves contain a mix of local and international ingredients, with an emphasis on the family's Greek heritage. A visit to Northbridge isn't complete without picking something up here.
Stop Five: Mechanics Institute
Cocktails (Beach Bums) on the rooftop terrace overlooking the city. Famed for its mixology, hip bartenders and daily changing drinks menu, it is a key a player in the small bar scene. Order a burger from the downstairs Flipside and your night is complete.
Stop Six: Bivouac Canteen & Bar
In setting up Bivouac with his wife, Anthony Princi was at the start of a new movement of small restaurants on William Street. Much of the produce on the menu comes from their family farm. Top tip here is the gnocchi and the Gingin goat chops.
Stop Seven: Urban Orchard
An orchard right in the middle of the city, in front of the West Australian Art Gallery and on top of a car park. Aside from picking some vegetables you can also grab a beer and watch the sun go down. Perfect before catching a show or performance in the cultural centre.
Rich Keam is originally from Portsmouth, UK. He was one of 1000s of entrants to Tourism Australia's Best Jobs in the World campaign. He arrived in Perth in August 2013 to take up his prize job as Taste Master of Western Australia. Eating and drinking his way around the state... Hard job right? You can follow Rich's adventures on tastewesternaustralia.com on Twitter @richkeam or Instagram @tastemaster_wa
By day Laura Moseley works at Thermomix Australia, where she is kept busy in the creative marketing team. By night she moonlights as Food Curator for various street fairs, including Perth's biggest ... The Beaufort Street Festival. Laura is well known as the go to girl for all things food.
