Nazca Plateau - mystery in Peru
On the Nazca plateau, there are ancient lines drawn on the Earth's surface, located in the desert of Nazca in Peru, about 400 kilometers from Lima. They are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
It is believed to have been created by tribes known as Nazca culture, whose civilization was developed during the period of 200 BC up to about 600 AC. These lines range from straight lines, triangles, spirals to much more complicated drawings of spider, hummingbird, lama, monkey, fish, and more. The largest ones are 270 meters long and their total area is 500 square kilometers.

The Nazca lines were discovered in the Peruvian desert in 1939, 200 miles south of Lima.
They were created between 200BC and 600AD by the Nazca Indians - or maybe aliens???
There are over 800 straight lines, 300 geometric figures and 70 animal and plant designs, best viewed from the air.
Shapes include a monkey, dog, birds, a human and a spider, said to be a diagram of the constellation Orion.
The desert has a reddish surface with lighter-colored subsoil and no wind, rain, snow, erosion or vegetation, the lines have remained etched in the earth.
Some lines are 30 miles long, and shapes are as big as the Empire State Building!
The geometry, astronomy and artistry of these geoglyphs is astounding. How were they created so precisely?
Who created them, and why?
What's with the electomagnitism over the lines?
Various theories suggest they were created for irrigation ditches, ancient calendars, ceremonial rituals, an homage to the gods ... or, perhaps, alien runways???
It's an enigma worth exploring if you visit Peru!

Erich Von Daniken The Mystery Of Peru's Huge Nazca Lines
Erich von Däniken's theory is the most famous approach to solve the mystery of Nazca. He provides evidence that a long time ago visitors from other stars visited the earth and naturally Nazca. At this place they landed, during the landing stones was blown away by the power of rocket propulsion. By approaching more the power was increasing and the cleaned band broader. In this way, the first trapezes emerged. Later the Aliens disappeared and left confused people. Like in the modern cargo cults they tried to call the Gods back by drawing lines, figures and trapezes. Despite many attributing it to him, Erich has never said the formations were made by Aliens.

New Nazca Lines Found in Peru | Ancient Architects
Etched into the high desert of southern Peru more than a millennium ago, the enigmatic Nasca Lines continue to capture our imagination. But recently, using drone cameras, scientists have discovered new spectacular line drawings in Southern Peru – and they are much older than the famous lines of the Nasca province.
Until this recent discovery, we knew of more than a thousand of these line drawings, also known as geoglyphs or ground drawings, that sprawl across the sandy soil of the Nasca province – a little-understood practice that some believe was to encourage rainfall, whilst others think they may represent star constellations, although all the ideas remain speculative.
Now, Peruvian archaeologists have discovered more than 50 new examples of these mysterious desert monuments in the adjacent Palpa Province, traced onto the earth’s surface in lines almost too fine to see with the human eye. With the help of drones, archaeologists have mapped them in never-before-seen detail. Watch this video to find out more.

Etched in the ground more than 1,000 years ago, many are worn by time and difficult to see with the human eye. Other geoglyphs, previously known only to local researchers and restored, are seen from the air for the first time. “Tupu” a “needle-like” object used to hold pieces of clothing together. The newfound lines, known as Nasca lines and Paracas lines, are already protected within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Researchers are working to properly document them.

Unlocking The Mystery Of Peru’s Massive Nazca Lines.
some 250 miles south of Lima, Peru, not far from the shores of the Pacific Ocean, there is a great arid plane — the site of one of the world’s oldest mysteries. Across 170 square miles of flat earth, the hard red soil is broken only by a series of strange furrows. They aren’t deep — usually breaking just six to twelve or so inches into the ground — and most aren’t especially wide. The majority span just a foot or so of dry ground.

Update on the Mystery of the Nazca Mummies
It has been a year since Flor presented us with her talk on the Nazca Mummies and not surprising, they are still causing a considerable amount of conjecture and speculation, worldwide.
The mummies were allegedly discovered near the city of Nazca in Peru, by ‘Mario’ and his friends in 2014.
They do not appear human with their elongated necks, large eye sockets and three fingers and three toes.
Flor Amanowicz, has just returned from Peru, where she has been interfacing with the scientists, involved in the case and is very keen to give us the low down into her recent research and discoveries.

Nazca Lines
Carved into the Peruvian desert thousands of years ago, the Nazca Lines have puzzled archaeologists and laypeople alike ever since their discovery 100 years ago. Stretching over hundreds of square miles, thousands of geometric shapes and animal figures mark the desert landscape - some as big as football fields, but all flat as the land itself, making them virtually invisible from the ground. Theories to explain the lines range from giant maps of the stars to alien runways to places for elaborate and bizarre rituals. Why would a people who couldn't fly have built images that could only be seen from the air? Olly travels to ancient cemeteries and Nazcan cities curiously off-limits to camera crews. He explores underground tunnels used in psychedelic cult initiations and tries to venture into the spirit world himself to unravel the mystery of the Nazca Lines

143 New Nazca Lines Discovered in Peru with the help of A.I. Technology | Ancient Architects
Huge thanks to Michael Wolf for alerting me about this story!
A team of Japanese researchers from Yamagata University and IBM Research have discovered an incredible 143 stunning geoglyphs, etched into the desert in southern Peru around the enigmatic Nazca Lines.
It is yet another example of how technology is assisting archaeology because a number of images were found using state-of-the-art AI technology developed by IBM, finds that were then confirmed with an on-site investigations.
The geoglyphs include humans, birds, camels, cats and other animals and were found between 2016 and 2018. They were identified through fieldwork and analysing high-resolution 3D data and aerial photography. Incredibly, one geoglyph in particular was solely discovered with AI technology, without the aid of humans, making it the first geoglyph discovered by an AI.
Back in April 2018 I reported in a video that Peruvian archaeologists in the Palpa province of Peru had discovered more than 50 new geoglyphs ( so this new discovery by the Japanese team builds on the ever-expanding line of study.
